Shingo Wake vs. Jonathan Guzman
July 20, Osaka.
Wake finally gets his shot at a world title.
Some people say Guzman hasn't fought anybody,
others say Guzman is the real thing.
Thoughts?

Re: Shingo Wake vs. Jonathan Guzman
I can see Wake winning but Guzmans record looks highly impressive and highly padded.
The outcome depends on if Guzman is the real deal or not.
My money's on Wake points.

Re: Shingo Wake vs. Jonathan Guzman
Sounds like Guzman's team is pretty confident (or overconfident?):
Guzman aims to extend KO streak against Wake
IBF #2 super bantamweight contender Jonathan “Salomon King” Guzman (21-0, 21 KOs) is hard at work preparing for the “fight of his life” with trainer Hector Bermudez at Peter Welch’s Gym in Boston. The 26-year-old KO artist from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, will face IBF #1 contender Shingo Wake (20-4-2, 12 KOs) on Wednesday, July 20, at EDION Arena Osaka in Osaka, Japan, for the vacant IBF World super bantamweight title.
Guzman, who stopped Mexican Daniel Rosas in the eighth round on April 29 to earn this fight, says his dreams are so close to coming true he can almost taste them. “I have waited my whole life for a world title fight and now it’s almost here,” said Guzman. “I can’t wait to get in the ring and win for my family and my country.”
Trainer Bermudez says Guzman has too many weapons to fall short in this fight. “Although Jonathan has never had to go the distance because his power is amazing, he can also box very well. He’s just never had to thus far in his career. Jonathan is the complete package and soon the world will be learning all about him. There is no way that Wake can beat him.”

Guzman was apparently looking sharp as a tack at his training session today. Yamamoto Vs Wao on the same card should be fun...
Seen much of Maruki?

I've seen a bit. He was impressive in his last bout.
Nonaka is the favorite, but I think Maruki is going to make
it interesting. Not easy to do against Nonaka, a tall southpaw who
likes to stick and move and hold.

Not surprised, as about 6.4 cm of the height advantage is due to his pompadour.

Big fan of Shingo Wake.

Very entertaining southpaw who is not afraid to mix and can land precise shots in trading sequences with nice weight transfer.

He could probably outbox lots of fighters from distance inflicting regular cumulative damage. but seems like he can't resist getting his hands dirty and landing some brutal shots.

Guzman D.R. puncher resume wasn't worth much till 2015 arrived. Stoppage wins over Juan Guzman, Esquivel,Aquino & Rosas gave a lot of credibility to that puncher resume.

The Kid is a beast...

He is one of the rare cases where a D.R. puncher steps up outside of D.R. and actually wins stopping his opponent.

He has good hand speed and good weight transfer on the straight.

Since Wake doesn't mind trading, i think Guzman will be very dangerous.

He dealt with another Warrior in Rosas previously.
