New Ring top 10 P4P
I see Lomachenko enters at #7.

Not a bad list, but Andre Ward shouldn't be there considering he hasn't fought anyone in the top 10 at 168 or 175 in many years, and doesn't win his fights in an impressive way.

Horse will be happy that Kell Brook is out
I don't have much of a problem with Ward being that high, mainly because he's an elite talent and the resume is there, even if his best wins did come some time ago. I think he's probably still got the ability and for me more time without a notable win will have to pass before I start taking issue with his placement.

Who has rigondeaux fought in years? Is he impressive?Freedom2013 wrote:I see Lomachenko enters at #7.

Rigo should've been out a while ago IMO
He's got the good Donaire win and that's pretty much it. Getting dropped twice by Amagasa isn't exactly P4P stuff either.

Personally I don't think Golovkin deserves to be as high as he is but that's just a personal preference. I think his resume (not his fault in regards to people not being willing to fight him I know) is too weak for number 3 on the list.

I don't have issue with either, just odd that Tunney's most hated fighter gets that criticism with rigondeaux right below him.crusader wrote:Rigo should've been out a while ago IMO

Who would you rank above him?lefty wrote:Personally I don't think Golovkin deserves to be as high as he is but that's just a personal preference. I think his resume (not his fault in regards to people not being willing to fight him I know) is too weak for number 3 on the list.
Re: New Ring top 10 P4P
Ward and possibly Alvarez based on the wins they have over better fighters than golovkins wins IMO. Not that I think Alvarez would beat Golovkin but I think he has a better resume as of now.crusader wrote:Who would you rank above him?lefty wrote:Personally I don't think Golovkin deserves to be as high as he is but that's just a personal preference. Re: New Ring top 10 P4P
Alvarez does have the better wins, although I think GGG is the better fighter and he's impressed me more.
Re: New Ring top 10 P4P
Yeah but surely it should be based on accomplishments to a large extent otherwise you could just put any wrecking ball who is knocking everybody out and is unbeaten high up the list.crusader wrote:Alvarez does have the better wins, although I think GGG is the better fighter and he's impressed me more.

Nothing wrong with the eye test for p4p, that's what makes it fun. Id have Spence over canelo p4p and Errol doesn't sniff his resume.
Re: New Ring top 10 P4P
For me it's a mix of resume and the impressiveness of performances.
I think GGG's opponents have been good enough that him beating them as he has is enough to get him a fairly high P4P spot.

Re: New Ring top 10 P4P
Why couldn't you? Accomplishment and p4p is a slippery slope. Ward hasn't won a meaningful fight in 4 years. What's the timeframe for the accomplishments? When he was in the super 6 Shane Mosley was top 5.lefty wrote:Yeah but surely it should be based on accomplishments to a large extent otherwise you could just put any wrecking ball who is knocking everybody out and is unbeaten high up the list.crusader wrote:Alvarez does have the better wins, although I think GGG is the better fighter and he's impressed me more.
Re: New Ring top 10 P4P
That's a fair point. The only counter I guess I'd have to that is that guys like Golovkin are going to look more impressive in the nature of their victories because of the manner of which they fight. Alvarez tend to like to counter punch more the GGG and thus he's not going to be blitzing guys out, all over the place in the same way.crusader wrote:For me it's a mix of resume and the impressiveness of performances.

Re: New Ring top 10 P4P
True. Barrera was a good light heavyweight prospect though who Ward beat pretty damn easily, knocking him down in the process.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Why couldn't you? Re: New Ring top 10 P4P
I'm not sure Lomachenko should in there as of now either. Martinez looked really poor to me and had his ass kicked by Ricky Burns years ago. The Russell Jnr victory is a good one though admittedly so there leaves some doubt in that sense.

Re: New Ring top 10 P4P
I'd go ggg, Gonzalez, kovalev, ward, lomachenko for my top 5. Accomplishments I'd say Gonzalez, kovalev & Garcia. After that it's muddled, on results I'd have canelo 4th, though I had him losing to trout and Lara.

The list still stinks.crusader wrote:Horse will be happy that Kell Brook is out

Re: New Ring top 10 P4P
Who else has a shout of being in the top 10 that isn't in their list?
Also, when was the last time that either Mayweather, Pacquiao or Wlad weren't in a Ring magazine top 10 p4p list? Must be over 10 years.

Re: New Ring top 10 P4P
I always thought that the Pound for Pound concept was that if the best fighters in the world were all the same weight who then would be considered the best. The fact that Alvarez could fight GGG at the same weight but chooses not too because he knows he would lose would then place him below GGG.crusader wrote:Alvarez does have the better wins, although I think GGG is the better fighter and he's impressed me more.
Re: New Ring top 10 P4P
This. I use accomplishments to inform my list, but p4p to me is a mythical thing where if everyone weighed the same amount, who would win. Like you said, they pretty much do weigh the same and I think GGG would kill him.Ketchel wrote:I always thought that the Pound for Pound concept was that if the best fighters in the world were all the same weight who then would be considered the best.
