Negotiating Canelo vs GGG
Max Kellerman discussing the negotiation of a Canelo vs GGG fight:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dPicIDsHIac
This got me thinking, I'd like to see a similar discussion between two board members. Your starting positions are:
Golden Boy: 90:10 split and 155lb
K2: 50:50 split and 160lb
Who would like to play the role of Golden Boy and who wants to be K2? I would rather have a Canelo fan represent Golden Boy and a GGG fan represent K2. I'd like to see a back and forth negotiation and see what split and weight we end up with and how close that comes to reality if or when the fight occurs.

Canelo will not fight GGG any time soon. He has already taken a huge hit from fans for dropping the belt, so he is in no hurry to get his a$$ whipped.

No takers? How about kidbazooka1 to represent Golden Boy and Kalan to represent K2?

I don't believe Canelo and Golden Boy even want to negotiate with GGG.

You're probably right. For this fake negotiation to work, though, we need to assume that they want the fight to happen, but also want to get the best deal possible for their fighter.Like a Boss wrote:I don't believe Canelo and Golden Boy even want to negotiate with GGG.

Re: Negotiating Canelo vs GGG
i think its the other way around. k2 and ggg aint going to want to negotiate with gloryhole boys and the all great chicken ginger ala mex. they and their fighter are the laughingstock of the modern boxing era. but many are buyung into it. even op here with the starting positions being about weight. let this go. and should it happen, it will be over in max three rds. hence why it wont happen.
Re: Negotiating Canelo vs GGG
Canelo and Golden Boy are going to avoid GGG like the plague for as long as they can do it, and still have people buy Canelo's fights

Trouble is, I think the best possible deal in the eyes of Golden Boy and Canelo is no fight against GGG happening.jezzamundo wrote:You're probably right. Yeah, wait til GGG is closer to 40 and hope he is damaged by then could well be the plan. I think everybody, including Golden Boy and Canelo, know GGG is untouchable at 160 at present.boxing_rocks wrote:... in the next 3 years. Even in 3 years time, Gennady mops the floor with Canelita.
They can wait as long as it pleases them.

Re: Negotiating Canelo vs GGG
Okay, I'll begin negotiations for the Golden Boy side. My first demand is that Gennady Gennadyvich Golovkin spends 30 mnutes in my hyperbolic hyperbaric chamber. 30 minutes will prematurely age him 7-10 years. Cede that and then we can begin talking about what calber of firearm my fighter will be allowed to take into the ring with him.
Re: Negotiating Canelo vs GGG
I'm clearly a GGG fan and someone that has spent 35 years watching it closely and i've never seen anything like him. He's clearly the best MW i have ever seen and it's not even close. With that said, I really think that Canelo has a shot in a fight with him. It will take years off of his career and he will take a level of punishment unlike anything he's ever been a part of but back in the day, every single fighter had to have one of these fights to earn his name. Times have surely changed with Floyd becoming the P4P kind without fighting a number one contender his whole career. Now guys point to their zero and say they are the best without ever digging deep enough through the punishment to win it in the ring.
I think those times are now changing. Some say how Floyd/Manny fight ruined boxing and I think that couldn't be further from the actual results. I think that fight put fans over the edge and pushed the bar up higher and almost back to where it was before Floyd danced his way to snoozefest victories. Fans are making it difficult on ducking boxers and we are now forcing boxers to take tougher fights. Look at LSC and his commitment to fans to stop taking easy fights. Watch when Canelo gets back inside that ring with someone not GGG and see how he's received. I like this new phase of boxing and I seriously think that Canelo has as good a chance as any in there with GGG. God knows how tough beating him on Vegas cards has been. If he can make it 12 rounds with GGG, then he's got a shot and we've never seen him hurt in recent years while his opposition has improved. My money is on GGG with a KO but I wouldn't consider it a Buster Douglas like victory if he pulled it off.

I respect other people's opinion's regarding certain fighter's and like you i'm a GGG fan but i'm a bit confused by your comment's you say that you spent 35 year's watching it closely [Boxing] and that GGG is the CLEARLY the best Middleweight you have ever seen and its not even close but in your next sentence you say Canelo has a shot in the fight with him you also go on to say Canelo has as GOOD a chance as any in there with GGG so 35 years ago the Middleweight King was Marvin Hagler after him we had HOF's like Roy Jones Jr/Hopkins/James Toney hold the Middleweight crown in my opinion
Canelo could not on his best night beat either of the 4 Middleweight Champion's I just mentioned and then you throw in Hearns/Leonard etc etc etc you'll see what I mean by when I say I was a bit confused by what your were trying to say in my opinion GGG will destroy Canelo the writings on the wall and I will be stunned if Canelo beats GGG but not as stunned that GGG is the best Middleweight to walk the planet the last 35 year's or so that i'm pretty sure he aint...............but like I said it just my opinion
Re: Negotiating Canelo vs GGG
Fair criticism and good post. I can also appreciate a well thought out opinion. Though i'm sticking with my original stance with Canelo being the best opponent at this point in time for GGG at 160 and yes, I do give Canelo a shot to win. As i explained, however, it's going to take a ton of pain and punishment like he's never known in order to do it. But GGG is 34 and no one cheats father time. His skills will erode at an alarming rate after 34-35. Every month that goes by, Canelo's chances get better. Then there's the Vegas Judges that I referred to. Canelo obviously has some help in high places. I really think that if Canelo loses in the same fashion he did in his fight with Floyd, he'd probably win it on the cards over GGG. I honestly believe that. Canelo's chin is world class as well but I think the biggest factor is how much Canelo keeps improving with every outing. He's so much improved since his "win" over Lara. But again, I'd still take GGG in a KO if i were betting.ClivePatrickLyons wrote:caldo2025 wrote:I'm clearly a GGG fan and someone that has spent 35 years watching it closely and i've never seen anything like him. GGG is the best i've ever seen, period. So it's a given in my mind that he's the best MW i've ever seen. Trust me, i wouldn't throw a bold statement like that without giving it serious thought. I visualize a fight in my mind between someone like GGG and Hagler and I honestly feel that it's an easy victory for GGG. I do the same with all of those names you mentioned. The only one that MIGHT have a shot of going 12 with GGG is SRL. Ray proved that he could stick and move for 12 rounds straight and that's the only way I think someone will beat GGG legitimately but the way GGG cuts off the ring, i don't think it's possible to avoid him for 6 rounds much less 12. He's going to catch you eventually. He's got more power than anyone i've ever seen. His chin is granite. His jab is amazing. There's just nowhere to hide in that ring from him.
Again, people will keep refusing to acknowledge the rare greatness that we are seeing with GGG. Not me. I know what i see and I don't care about his resume or what some perceive as horrible opposition. My opinion is that the talent at MW is as strong as any era, GGG is just so good that it makes it like there's not. One day, this kid will hold the distinction as one of the best boxers in the HISTORY of the sport, not just the last 35 years.

I actually disagree with your opinion on how to beat GGG - I think fighting him on the inside is the way to do it. He's a formidable fighter, but he does his best work at middle-to-long range and Ouma, Stevenson, Murray and Monroe all had their best moments against him on the inside, using superior handspeed (Ouma and Monroe) and hitting him to the body (Murray). Golovkin seems to generate his best power when his arms are extended, and his punches lose a lot of their sting at closer range and when he's on the back foot. I would make Hagler a narrow favourite against GGG for these reasons, but I'd take GGG to knock (middleweight) Roy Jones out, because I don't see any ambush or outside fighter going 12 with GGG - not unless they have an iron chin to go with some A+ skills.
Re: Negotiating Canelo vs GGG
I think that it's very hard to tell anything from those briefest of brief moments that guys like Murray had in their fight with GGG. GGG admittedly let those guys tee off on him to make it more interesting for the crowd. He taps his chin and asks for it from theses guys. I mean, this kid is toying the very best fighters in the world. You saw the Sergio/Murray fight several years ago. Sergio was still pretty dynamic back then and he lost that fight if we are honest. Murray got screwed out of a knockdown late that would have won him the fight. Did ANYONE criticize Sergio's opposition during his reign? I never heard a peep. Then consider what GGG did to Murray. Nearly killed him. And it's not just a one off...GGG does the same thing with every single opponent. Don't you think that's something? Or am i the only one that feels this way.jezzamundo wrote:Canelo certainly has a shot to win, but he deserves to be a big underdog, despite his superior resume.caldo2025 wrote:Fair criticism and good post. He's toying with the best MW's in the world. i don't care what era it's in, we've never seen this kind of domination in a division which traditionally has the most athletically skilled boxers. It's a very unique situation we are seeing and i really don't think he's getting anywhere near his due.

Re: Negotiating Canelo vs GGG
Truth is Canelo learnt a lot from the Floyd fight in terms of negotiations and have all the advantages by your side. Canelo became the new boxing cash cow and even fans like it or not. He will take his time and wait till he has all the advantages by his side. An aged, past of his prime Golovkin would have a very hard time to beat a still young Canelo in Vegas @ 160 lbs.
