Canelo to return Sept 17 - but who against and where??

Post by Like a Boss »

Canelo Alvarez is set to return to the ring on September 17. But who he will fight and where it will take place remains somewhat of a mystery.

We know it won't be against GGG. You can bet your life on that. But who will be in the other corner?

Golden Boy Promotions apparently has requested a hold on the MGM Grand, Las Vegas for Sept. 17. So that might be half the mystery solved.

If it's not GGG I don't care. Liam Smith has been thrown about as an opponent but I've seen nothing to suggest he has a chance.

No need for the if. We already know it won't be GGG.

If it is Lemieux, Canyellow will drain him to at least 157.

I wouldn't. Both are golden boy fighters. Lemieux doesn't have a championship title and just lost to GGG. Why should Golden Boy be rewarded, manipulating the market like this, disrespecting boxing like this. I won't be buying another Canelo PPV unless he is fighting GGG. What i'm hoping happens though is he moves down to light middleweight and gets outboxed and hurt by one of the Charlo brothers, they look like big boys for the division, just like Canelo is a big boy for middleweight and even super middle.

Fair enough lol, I'm pissed off about the Canelo situation obviously.

I never even considered Lemieux and Canelo locking horns before and that fight would be awesome but can you imagine Canelo dropping the MW belt and then fighting another MW. He's got to fight at 154 for this next one and keep that buffer between he, GGG and criticism.

Me too man. GGG/Canelo is what I want to see more than any other match up. But I'm trying to be a realist here. I doubt the fight ever happens. It's obvious Canelo and Co. don't want it. Honestly, I'd be surprised if they take a Lemieux fight at 160 either. But, it's more likely than Canelo/GGG, so I'll take it.... and be rooting for David to stiffen Canela up. :TU:

Lol, right. I am guessing you didn't read the article. "In the future" Thurman would like to move up to 154 and fight the likes of Canelo and Andrade. In a couple of years, maybe.

It will not be at MGM Grand. Ticketmaster already has tickets on sale for the Black Sabbath concert at the MGM Grand Garden arena on 17 Sep.

T-Mobile doesn't have anything scheduled.

I hope Canelo steps up and fights someone like Andrade, who has been calling him out. He had his tune-up vs a weak chinned welterweight, now its time to take on a real opponent. I think Andrade vs Canelo would be a great fight, and I would actually favor Andrade to win.
