Kelly should win, the draw was kind to him.McCormack has a decent opponent but should be favoured. O'Reilly should win, if the scoring isn't biased to the home fighter. Picardi is very experienced and a good test for Vargas, who if he is as good as believed should win. Russell will be fancied too but his opponent is decent.

Vargas won well, he will benefit enormously from not making it in the Americas and boxing in Baku.

Richardson Hitchins lives in New York City but is representing Haiti. He said Andre Berto paid his expenses to get to Baku. If you recall, Berto also boxed as an amateur in Florida but represented Haiti in the Olympics before going on to a successful pro career.

Team GB did extremely well, the number of boxers going to the Olympics is on the increase year-on-year (gutted for the one girl who didn't make it). Will this team be as successful as 2012 or 2008?
France also did very well and I'm surprised that they didn't try to send their flyweight to Venezuela for the final qualifier. I guess it was too expensive.

Anyway, after looking at the list of countries, I'm very surprised by the US & the Ukraine numbers. They seem very low. :maybe: Any explanations?
As for Cuba, sorry to sound dumb, is it normal that no women have qualified? Haven't entered any?

Ukraine and US? Turnover to pros.

Lomochenko, Khytrov, Gvodzyk, Shelystyuk, ... all went pro.

This is rare for the EE countries. But it depletes their talent.

For the USA, this occurs not every 4 years but every 2 years. Hence most USA fighters are between 18-20 years old.
