Everyone on these forums seems to pick 5 men as being above all others in terms of being the best ever pound for pound

thing is whilst all fought at middle, armstrong was smaller

Lets say we exclude armstrong and there was a tournament with the other 4 - weight set a 165.

Charles and Langford fought at that weight near their primes, Greb was always around there and ofc SRR was slightly smaller but not by much. So greb, langford, charles and Robinson - all at 165 - who comes out on top?????

I was thinking about charles, srr, greb and langford really - they could all fight at a similar weight - well srr a few lbs under

good list but who wins the tournament? Who comes out on top?

..ezzard fought at 165 for a very short time. his prime was probably at 170...but yeah, he was near his peak at 165, though he was still a growing boy...but he was 6 feet tall at 165 and did have a height and reach advantage.

4 round fights all in the same night...I like Greb's volume.
15 rounds...I think Charles has the all round skills and when it comes to Ezzard versus Robinson he has the size advantage too.

Charles I would say... The 3 most competitive are Greb, Langford, and Charles.. Greb would beat an early version of Charles who lost to Olverlin, Tunero, Bivins, and Marshall.. After Charles was knocked out by Lloyd Marshall in 1943, he vowed never to lose again.. For the next 8 years and 40 fights he didn't lose.. He has an official loss to Elmer Ray, but the decision was shocking.. Everyone who watched the fight had Charles winning by a mile.. In that stretch Charles beat Archie Moore 3 X... Joe Walcott 2 X... Jimmy Bivins 3 X... Joey Maxim 3 X... and Lloyd Marshall 2 X... He also has 2 wins over Charley Burley and 2 previous wins over Joey Maxim before the streak started... In 1951 he was in his 9th year of being unbeaten and going into his 9th defense of the Heavyweight Title.

Charles' trainer noticed he was getting hit more in sparring than usual and asked him if he felt okay. He said he didn't feel right but would shake it off. Walcott took control and knocked Charles out. It was his first win in 3 tries versus Charles.. Charles had good days and bad days after that but thought it was the normal process of a boxer aging.. He started getting beaten more and more frequently until he couldn't beat anybody and was forced to quit Boxing.. One day he couldn't hold a fork in his hand.. He was diagnosed with ALS and died of it at 53.

I never thought I'd agree with every word of a Kalan post. Ezz would have his work cut out with a prime Langford, though he has the skills to avoid the bombs and counter his way to a close victory.
