First HW Unification

Post by sockdolager »

I was looking at a sports almanac and noticed that until Ali beat Liston there was only one belt. On March 5th of 1965 Earnie Terrell defended the WBA belt against Eddie Machen. Terrell beat several opponents before falling to Ali Feb 6 1967. Did that make Ali the first Undisputed Heavyweight Champ?

..the middleweight title was in a mess for years.....a couple of times. at one time the major titles acceptances were by the new york boxing commission and the n.b.a...with the unofficial but highly accepted ring magazine tossed in . as new york was the main venue for title fights it had the most weight....sometimes....but...well...as i say..it was a mess every now and then. for the historians here, check back to the al hostak and babe risko and freddie steele title days.
