PBC is great when they make the right matchups, like Porter-Thurman and Huck-Glowacki.
But PBC is poor when they make mismatches like Garcia-Salka and Gary Russell Jr vs. TBA.

Porter was great, not PBC, Porter made the fight, credit should go to Porter for coming to fight
Re: PBC is great. Tonight proved that
Really looking forwards to catching up with the Porter Thurman fight, it sounds like it was a good honest fight where both fighters increased their profiles.
Is that a potential rematch btw?

PBC is no different than every other promotional outfit.
Sometimes they present winners, like last night, and other times we witness some real dog matchups.
But jewboy has it right. At least it's free and the most you can waste is your time, not your PPV dollars.

With their best fight, PBC didn't even come close to gymnastics olympic trials:

You probably are getting paid, he's lost 925 million dollars, not hard to believe he wasted some of it on you.

In the U.S., unless you're named Mayweather or Pacquiao, nobody knows any of the fighters or gives a bleep about boxing.
Back in the 80s, Thurman vs Porter would have been seen as a major bout, almost on par with Arguello/Pryor.
No, it wouldn't have been on the level of Leonard-Hearns, but there would have been plenty interest on the part of casual fans and the media.
Today, it's only viewed as something to fill time on a summer Saturday night, when most people don't even bother to watch television.
Shame.

In the 80's Thurman/Porter would have been a great match up of prospects on a Saturday afternoon and it would have happened years ago. It would have quadrupled those ratings if they were both 14-0. Arguello/Pryor was a really big deal.

But I'm under the belief that because boxing was so much more popular 30 years ago, both Porter and Thurman would have been much bigger stars than they are now.
Public interest would have been sky high for the showdown and probably would have merited an HBO showing as Arguello/Pryor did. (The rematch, because the first fight was so terrific, ended up on PPV)
Hopefully, a Thurman-Spence fight will be allowed to marinate for a year or more and it will get the respect and attention it deserves.

They would have had to beat guys they wouldn't have to reach that status. They wouldn't even be welterweights.
