The draw has not been kind to the Irish boxers and it might be they were unlucky but it is clear they have ability and in the long run that is all that matters.Zharkov and Chazov were both number two world ranked before this competition in my rankings.

I really like the Russian kid at 52kg, Ilya Popov, I first saw him at the World Junior Championships last year and I was very impressed.
He fights Ireland in the semifinals I believe.

Ilya Popov once again looked impressive.
The Irish kid was moving a lot but Popov was cutting off the ring really well. This kid is extremely impressive.
The Irish kid was missing a lot and clinched quite a bit. I was worried that they were going to rob Popov.

The Ukrainian kid at 50kg, Yegor Ade, did get robbed in my opinion. It's a shame too, because I thought he was one of the better boxers of this tournament.

This has nothing to do with this tournament, but it has to do with a Junior fight and I thought this would be the best Topic to place it on.

I was able to get a hold of some of the 2016 Russian Junior National Championships (Finals) and I just have to comment on one of the fights. That fight is: Ilya Popov (2016 European Junior Champion) vs. Nikolay Marinichev (2015 European Schoolboys Champion).
That was one of the best Junior fights I've seen, so much skill in display. It's a shame they were both in the same weight class. Two of the most talented young boxers Russia has. Hopefully they are allowed to develop properly. Sometimes development worries me when it comes to Russia.
Marinichev started off the better of the two, but Popov started to figure him out as the fight went on.

Nikolay Marinichev was born in 2001 so I'm sure he'll get his opportunity next year to shine at the Junior level (with the World Junior Championships next year). The kid was really impressive, but luck just wasn't on his side side since he had to face a boxer who could be the best young Russian boxer currently.
If I'm not mistaken Popov actually was awarded the "Best Junior Boxer" at these European Junior Championships.
I just needed to give Marinichev a lot of credit. I was really impressed, so hopefully he gets his opportunity next year.

The 50 kg final was also pretty good. I was not impressed with the 54 kg final contestants.
