Anyone else think Joshua is terrible?
I am always surprised when I watch him because I just don't get what everyone else sees. He appears to be so basic and rudimentary. Extremely one dimensional. He looks very robotic, even just the way he walks looks very robotic. He's the type of fighting style that i'd expect to get thoroughly outboxed by a "slick" fighter.
I think he gets by on having world class power and his size, which gives him a shot against any heavyweight because it will only take one punch.
He really looks poor to me but the entire division is quite bad at the moment.
He reminds me of Kelly Pavlik. Limited but good enough to rule his division for a period of time. Lost every round vs a slick mover in Hopkins though.

I think he's quite good, but I still can't see what people are talking about when they mention his impressive speed.

The heavyweight division if full of average fighters, it will be impossible to judge him until he's been in with Haye, Klitch, Fury or Wilder.
I think all four take him out as things stand.

Not even close to terrible.
But not the best heavy since Lewis like a couple of the danglers on here seem to like to say.

Not terrible, but not sure he's got a plan B if he came up against someone slicker.
Haye beats him as it stands at the minute
who next though?

Re: Anyone else think Joshua is terrible?
Far from terrible but I think very overrated overall.
Re: Anyone else think Joshua is terrible?
I wouldn't go as far as calling him terrible as he's still only 17 fights in but he's definitely not great as of yet. It winds me up when the casual audience think he's the best heavyweight alive when he's still untested, but he's not really at fault for it. Why put him in with someone who punches back when the public will pay to see him fight tomato cans?
I'll hang on until he's made a few mandatory defences or unified against tough opposition before judging him, hoping Parker lives up to the hype!

Re: Anyone else think Joshua is terrible?
I thought he was excellent last night, best ive seen him to be honest, and im not getting carried away saying he was flawless and without fault,i loved his shot selection and patience and his power and accuracy are undeniable,if i were his trainer from the start then last night would have gave me most pleasure
I do think some people(not everyone) get caught up looking for perfection whilst letting the former greats get away with it,you can still be great whilst making some mistakes in having flaws, look at Ali. Beating Breazeale doesnt make you great by any means but you can still look great by beating Breazeale
(i not saying AJ is a great yet BTW although there is no doubt the man is humble)

Re: Anyone else think Joshua is terrible?
I dont think hes terrible or over rated. I just think that the current division isnt full of hungry heavies with power, determination and skill. As above said there is only really 4 others out there that could test him but they all have their own agendas, as there is a multitude of titles avaialbe and now we have a new body WBC (World Boxing Confederation).
AJ has only had 17 fights and was basically given a world title but look beyond the title as it means eff all really. If he wasnt a world champion we would be saying that he is pregressing well and fighting the correct oppostion towards world title glory. The fact is that he has got a title and some people are judging him on that basis.
Last nights fight was nothing special it wasnt a world class display of his skills, but he is fighting whom he can while the others become available. Im sure he will face one of the other big 4 at some point once the IBF tell him he has to face Haye, Fury, Klit or who ever. If the IBF are letting him fight whom he wants then so be it. But at 17 fights what are we expecting really? If AJ is unbeaten in another 10 fights and facing stiffs and avoiding the big guns I can understand the critism but at the moment the show rolls on.

Re: Anyone else think Joshua is terrible?
He is a world class athelete with elite strength and power. His boxing skills lag way behind. He is lacking in mobility and is robotically stiff and upright. I think fury would school him and he's no great shakes. He will get away with it because it's a relatively poor division though.

The man i watched on Saturday night would not beat the gypsy king , he would be punching air for 12 rounds with his tongue hanging out if they fought .

Re: Anyone else think Joshua is terrible?
AJ has an undeniable mix of athleticism, size, power and spite. Although not tested, I`d wager he`s got the heart for a war if he finds himself in one.
He is easy to hit however and someone will clock him big time and then we`ll find out a bit more about him. Whyte clocked him and he rode that one out, but I want to see how he handles a mammoth punch that puts him down.
What I like is the nasty edge that he clearly has. He wants to hurt his opponents and brtutalize them. Not a bad trait for a heavyweight.
Right now the two fighters that will give him the most trouble would be Ortiz and Wilder. I think he`d walk through Wlad, Fury and Haye.

Yeah, spitting image, I can really see the comparison.

Edit-I was half cut last night, the "piss things away" comparison was meant for Fury not Joshua

Re: Anyone else think Joshua is terrible?
He is clearly not terrible, he's done everything that's been asked of him and then some, I think depending on how he steps up his opposition he could become the dominant "one" within a year or so. I'm convinced he'd spark Wilder tomorrow, wish they would go after that fight!
Re: Anyone else think Joshua is terrible?
Not so much terrible
But it took took him 7 rounds to put someone away who didn't really hit him,can only beat what's in front of you though and a wins a win

17 fights, 17 wins, 17 KO's. Already holds a version of a World Title. Tends to provide explosive enough finishes that he can sell out the O2 Arena on his own & is now broadcast live in the States.
Yeah, he's atrocious.

Re: Anyone else think Joshua is terrible?
He's had 17 fights - who do you want him to have been in with by now? I'm not some major AJ fan (think both Fury & Haye beat him at this moment in time) but to call him terrible is ridiculous. He's achieved a lot in a short space of time and if you take Klitschko away from the Fury/Haye heavyweight resume's, is his CV really any weaker than theirs? Even Wilder's for that matter?foxdog1923 wrote:You forgot, fights nobodies.GooalaShooola wrote:17 fights, 17 wins, 17 KO's. Already holds a version of a World Title. And all of this is without mentioning the fact he's an Olympic Gold medallist. He's clearly not "terrible". "Overhyped"? Possibly, time will tell.

Re: Anyone else think Joshua is terrible?
Oh hes not terrible, thats obviously not the case with AJ. Joshuas very good. However, all his opponents are just starting out and his most experienced opponent is finishing up his career which was Kevin Johnson. I want to see him fight a somebody. I aint never heard of Martin or Breazeale or Whyte before Joshua fought them. Ive heard of Haye, Ortiz, Povetkin and thats the thing. Lot of his undefeated opponents hadnt even had 20 fights!GooalaShooola wrote:He's had 17 fights - who do you want him to have been in with by now? Re: Anyone else think Joshua is terrible?
Watching the build up to this weekend, with all the old bouts getting reruns on Sky, I couldn't help noticing how poor his movement and footwork is.
He plods slowly forward, really predictable.
In comparison, Wlad looks slick in the footwork dept, with his half step back
Watching Fury's movement against Wlad recently really brings it home.
I wouldn't discount him against any of the top guys just now because he hit hard and has a few attributes that make him a dangerous opponent for anyone.
But his movement needs serious work and I'm not even sure that's something he is likely to add to his game at this point in his career

I am looking forward to the day they put him in with someone who has a jab and some foot movement.

Just rewatched his fight vs Erislandy Savon.
Genuinely should go down as one of the biggest robberies at an Olympic event. Joshua was comprehensively outboxed from start to finish
