Well, glad to see we're all having a bit of a laugh now.
I don't think there's anyone on here who has it in for Fury based on where he's from.

You must have heard of John Hughes then. He was the best instructor I ever had.CiganoBoxer wrote:I used to get people with the Peruvian Neck tie a quite a lot , used to love the Gi game ,i trained in BJJ for 5 years under a Macardo school and then Ronnie Mann for a short time,i loved it but then for some reason i sort of stopped an drifted back to what i know "boxing"tedley wrote:It was my favourite strangle hold , I believe Chuck Norris favoured it also.CiganoBoxer wrote:Sorry buddy i got the poxy flu , i didnt get your joke other than the lion killer comment , and your link didnt work on my macbook.

But a mention of the great Glyn Farthing who introduced me to judo and coached me for a good many years.
Showing my age now, loved judo but boxing was my first love late 60's

I was 35 when I got sort of hooked on BJJ by accident .tedley wrote:You must have heard of John Hughes then. Me and my mates went in to an mma gym for the sparring in their boxing class ,we found the boxing level in this new mma gym was about as basic as it could get ,We lot being gypsies had all been on an off in and out of boxing clubs all our adolescent lives so we had been exposed to rougher sparring boxing wise than this little new club had seen,so to say we had our way sparring that night in there would be an understatement lol
Anyways one of the coaches a real nice man explained that boxing was a 2nd art to him and grappling was his thing ,he asked about our back grounds what we had trained at what level etc etc
He then ask us to stay on for the BJJ class ,because i have watched mma from day dot i said i am up for it/give it ago .
I got paired up with the instructor ,i weigh between 17-18 st can deadlift 270kg he weighed 12 st and couldn't deadlift 140kg, he told me i had to stop him from taking me down and sub bing me , i started giggling thinking theres no way this little man is man handling me , with that he's flipped me ,took my back a rear naked choked me all within about 1 minute ,couldn't believe it , my grappling was worse than their boxing level
I did it for about 4+ years after that ,obviously i got a bit better over time ,but i used to enjoy the workout from rolling the most.

Mate you should of seen what went on in there in them first few sessionsCounter-puncher wrote:Nice story, hope you didn't have your way with them too roughly!
I like to box on me toes and I move in behind a strong powerful jab and then hook with either hand to the body ,but they kept lighting up my lead leg by kicking it as when you spar like i do your front is foot forward ,it did my head in but it was all good fun tho and they weren't half as rough on us as we was them in the boxing class .
In the end the coach (Tony Terrenova) asked me to join as they wanted us there for their boxing class , he said he would teach me how to check them kicks and then let my hands go ,i was there for three years and he taught me most of what i know about checking kicks BJJ etc
But then a good mate Steve Dawes from (TrogenFit) opened up his own boxing club with 3 rings in it so we all ended up back there .
Re: Tyson and Hughie Fury failed drugs test ?????
He's not the victim of a smear campaign, like any other high profile athlete who says/does something stupid he gets pilloried for it. I agree some people out there certainly don't like him because of his background but then he can't whinge about being discriminated against when he's saying homosexuality is wrong.
Imagine if Wayne Rooney said something similar? He'd get a way rougher time than Tyson over it, fornicate me he still gets flack over shagging an old prozzie when he was a teenager.

Interesting how this week's Boxing News confirms that there is an ongoing investigation. Obviously, I hope there is no substance in it.
