Floyd Patterson vrs Wilt Chamberlain (1959)
Just suppose they gave Wilt Chamberlain a shot at the Heavyweight title (after six months of training).
before he signed a contract with the Philadelphia 76's.
Could he have defeated Floyd Patterson for the Heavyweight title at that point in his athletic career ?

Wilt could not beat a any of the world heavyweight champions in history. None. ZERO. NEVER.Caractacus wrote:Just suppose they gave Wilt Chamberlain a shot at the Heavyweight title (after six months of training).

But who had the faster hands ?
You would have to have really fast hands to catch all them rebounds.

Rebounds ain't punching. Patterson would slaughter Wilt. A long and painful night for Chamberlain, where he wouldn't land his cumbersome punches and Patterson would land at will. This ain't Kalan's fantasy, this is boxing, the hardest and most brutal sport there is.Caractacus wrote:But who had the faster hands ?

Re: Floyd Patterson vrs Wilt Chamberlain (1959)
Then how come Patterson has an expression on his face like Wilt Chamberlain had
"the Indian Sign"
on him in those photographs Ive seen when Chamberlain visited Patteron's training g quarters
when Patterson was getting ready to fight Sonny Liston ?

Re: Floyd Patterson vrs Wilt Chamberlain (1959)
These Wilt haters are insane... One shot from Wilt and that fight would be over... Patterson was so afraid of Sonny Liston he damned near peed in his pants. The only thing Sonny had to do is beat Patterson like a punching bag with his size and strength until Patterson stopped getting up.. It barely took 2 minutes.

We are not haters, he just never boxed a single round. Why should we believe that Wilt could achieve in a boxing ring without a single scrap of evidence?Kalan wrote:These Wilt haters are insane... Here's PROOF that Wilt Chamberlain had been trying for a long time to get Ali to sign a contract to fight -- and Ali wouldn't sign.

Re: Floyd Patterson vrs Wilt Chamberlain (1959)
I always knew Ali said this... But when I tried to find the quote on the Internet, or the interview, it seemed like it was deleted on copyright grounds
Caractacus..,
I found this quote attributed to Muhammad Ali in 1971,
"That man (Wilt Chamberlain) scares me"
"Wilt is the only man in the world I'll be afraid to fight.
I think he would kill me"

Some Wilt quotes
"He (Ali) was a kind person, if I was in over my head he wouldn't take cruel advantage of it whereas other fighters might try and hurt me" - Wilt Chamberlain
"Cus I have a fear of being knocked on my ass" - Wilt Chamberlain
"If I were an odds maker I would have made Ali a 10-1 favourite" - Wilt Chamberlain
"Wilt would never have laid a glove on him. Wilt would've made a fool of himself or gotten hurt and I don't want to see Ali turn Wilts brain to mush" - Kareem Abdul Jabbar
"It didn't happen and it might be good for me" - Wilt Chamberlain

It only didn't happen because Ali refused to sign...as the above video proves... He knew damned well Wilt would have killed him and even said so.Kalan wrote:Here's PROOF that Wilt Chamberlain had been trying for a long time to get Ali to sign a contract to fight -- and Ali wouldn't sign.

That's proof? Seriously? In your highly analytical mind, that knows how to train, and assess, you see proof of your claim in there?
In which frame is it singularly contained? And there is more context that is not shared here. Part of your pattern.

The proof is Chamberlain took out pens and asked Ali HOW LONG??? WILL it take you to sign the contract???? Ali refused to even answer him... That had been going on for a long time and it's why Chamberlain was so frustrated.. That's the proof.. Ali didn't want to fight Chamberlain.. He wanted the publicity and looking like a brave man without any of the risk.

Well now that you've taken the time to explain it clearly, that settles it. Case closed.

Well, if he had pens. You never said he had pens.
(Wilt used to sign his name with 5 pens at once; one pen was not enough to sign a name like 'Wilt Chamberlain').
