Jackson/Colomban August 13th in NZ
Hi team,
Another fight just been made and keen to here people discuss?
Gunnar Jackson Vs Samuel Colomban 10x3min at Super-Welter there will be a Regional belt at stake. Jackson has Jordan Tai to get through at 72.5 for the NZPBA Title first and Colomban has Capps over 8x3min in a State title showdown. Regardless both will fight each other August 13th
Colomban has been on the wrong end of some very close and dicey Split Decisions and is miuch better than his 23-8 record suggests. Gunnar has looked very strong at Super-Welter against a lower level of opponent and will step out against a much more experienced seasoned campaigner in Colomban to truly test his worth at 154,

This is a good fight for Sammy, as you have said, he's had some dubious decisions not go his way and is much better than his record suggest, in fact, he beat three former (and still at the top of their collective games) Australian champions in his first four pro fights, Sam needs to win these next two fights to reestablish himself in the scene and I feel that he can, he has the skill and, having trained with him on many occasions, he has the fitness. Best of luck to Sam, a champion in and out of the ring.

I see Gunnar Jackson is fighting Mose Auimatagi next. Followed by Ivana Siau.N2 Shape wrote:Hi team,

An even better question is who did Sam Colomban fight in his last fight?

Sam by knockout no problem. All respect to Jackson but Colomban is well above Jacksons level especially in power.

I don't think this fight is going ahead. Jackson is now down to fight Ivana Siau on August 13. That was the date he was to fight Colomban.foxdog1923 wrote:Sam by knockout no problem. All respect to Jackson but Colomban is well above Jacksons level especially in power.

Speaking to Sam last night, he believes he is still fighting in New Zealand that night.

How did Sam feel about his fight with Capps?dberry wrote:Speaking to Sam last night, he believes he is still fighting in New Zealand that night.
Ben just kept coming at him all night. Reminded me a bit of Frank Ropis. But it was probably good for Sam because it forced him to dig real deep.
Interested to see Dave Hedgecock in Sam's corner. Haven't seen Dave around the traps for a while. But I realise part of the reason for that was enforced.
Re: Jackson/Colomban August 13th in NZ
Yeah, he was quite happy with the win, Benny Capps has come on leaps and bounds over the last couple of years and is now quite a handful. Good to see that gym (Shadow's) taking on the hard fights and Benny and Ryan deserve some props.Like a Boss wrote:How did Sam feel about his fight with Capps?dberry wrote:Speaking to Sam last night, he believes he is still fighting in New Zealand that night.

Is Colomban the same weight as Jordan Tai? Other than Tai (whom he'll beat IMO) theres really no one else for him to fight. Jackson is a mismatch, everyones a mismatch. No ones on his level here.

Colomban fought at 154 (super welterweight) the other night. But for years he was a 147 (welterweight) fighter.foxdog1923 wrote:Is Colomban the same weight as Jordan Tai? Jordan Tai has been fighting at super middleweight, about 20 pounds heavier than Colomban.

As a kiwi who knows a lot the names of the boxers around here (actually I know a lot of the kiwi athletes in all sports) I can tell you now, we don't have anyone that's going to give Colomban a decent fight. Iron Mose Auimatagi beat Gunnar Jackson in a fairly tight knit match but it just showed Jacksons lack of power.Like a Boss wrote:Colomban fought at 154 (super welterweight) the other night. I seen Colomban on YouTube awhile ago as I became interested in him when a boxer I knew mentioned him, I think he sparred him I can't remember but he did say Sam had some real pop in his punches. Anyway what I saw on YouTube suggest he's a class above any of the welterweights in New Zealand. Jackson vs Colomban is just poor match making.
Re: Jackson/Colomban August 13th in NZ
Gunnar had a tough night at the office against a young, strong and tough Mose Auimatagai. Didn't NEED to take the fight but this is NZ boxing and Gunnar just wants to fight, theres no false Illusions about his career or people blowing smoke up his ass like a lot of other fighters. He performed creditably against Olympic gold medalist Ryoto Murata and was very competitive against Mundine. A former WBO Oriental champion with wins over some solid aussie middles. So to suggest Colomban is poor match making shows a lack of knowledge. It would have been a very tough fight and a great challenge but certainly not poor match making. Isn't the idea to aspire to fight the best? Is Gunnar at a level where he can match Colomban and possibly beat him. Of course. We could always take the Thai taxi driver route to 30-0 and prove nothing, that's exactly what the fans want
The guy has some ambition and wants to prove himself against the best and its poor match making
exactly what is all wrong with boxing today. Lack of ambition, no one wants to test themselves, and record padding.

Well of course he should aim high but if the skys the limit then Colombans the Moon. Everyone has an ambition to be the best but hes not at the stage yet for a step up like Colomban and that was evident in his last outing.N2 Shape wrote:Gunnar had a tough night at the office against a young, strong and tough Mose Auimatagai. I seen what Colomban can do against better opposition than Jackson and Colombans boxing is far more detrimental to Jackson than what Aumatangi could do. As soon as Colomban tests the waters and finds Gunnars power is lacking, hes going to get relaxed and in control very fast. Gunnar the stunner will become Gunnar the runner but didnt get away.
Ok then, pit him against Colomban. Dont say I never told you so if Gunnar gets comatosed.
Re: Jackson/Colomban August 13th in NZ
Good post, Craig, Gunner Jackson is no pushover, he'd actually be a bit of a handful for Sam, coupled with fighting in front of his home town and with Sammy having to travel then this is actually a pretty good match, in fact, I was/will try and get over for it. Props to Gunner and his team for facing good opposition over and again, win lose or draw.N2 Shape wrote:Gunnar had a tough night at the office against a young, strong and tough Mose Auimatagai.
