Keith Thurman vs Shawn Porter
Finally happening this weekend on Sky after Thurman's car accident forced the postponment in March i think it was, great match up and the toughest fight of Thurman's career on paper,Porter is a tough customer, more primed than Guerrero or Collazo and has more about him than Chaves, also Shawn coming off a fairly easy win over Broner despite the KD in the last round
I know Porter will bring it and wont stop coming forward trying to make it ugly but i just cant see past Keith in this one,im a big fan of his,he gets stick from some people but i personally havent seen any flaws,i think he has it all,he can outbox boxers and out fight fighters instead of trying the opposite(outbox fighters, outfight boxers) so he seems to hang tough whatever the opponent wants to do he's happy to oblige,he has been tagged and looked slightly hurt once or twice but always keeps his wits about him
Porter's nobodies mug but i think Thurman will make easy work of him and stop him late, raising him up to that next level that Shawn reached when beating Alexander

One time baby, all night.
Re: Keith Thurman vs Shawn Porter
I really like Thurman and hope he can pull this off. It'll be interesting to see how he copes with Porters bullying tactics. He certainly has the power to stop Porter who was wobbled in the final round against Broner and slightly wobbled in the 7th against Brook although he recovered well. This could end up a FOTY candidate. Here's hoping

I'm going for Porter for the upset although I use the word upset lightly.
I think it will be a close hard fought contest possibly an SD.

I'm edging Thurman to win a close one on points.
Re: Keith Thurman vs Shawn Porter
I scored it 116-112 Thurman, although there were many swing rounds. Good fight and fair judging.
Ironically, I only had Brook defeating Porter by 3 points, but I felt he was more in control than Thurman was.

Re: Keith Thurman vs Shawn Porter
Brook tied up a lot more when porter pushed him up against the ropes though. Thurman didn't hold that much and was fighting more in the pocket which made it a harder fight for himself.crusader wrote:I scored it 116-112 Thurman, although there were many swing rounds. Good fight and fair judging.

Re: Keith Thurman vs Shawn Porter
I had it the same as the official judges. I thought it was fairly scored, and it was a tremendous fight. Both Porter and Thurman raised their profiles with that fight. You couldn't have asked for anymore from either of them. They fought their asses off.
Re: Keith Thurman vs Shawn Porter
To judge a fight isn't easy, I sometimes think if there is a course or something about how someone can be a boxing judge, because it is extremely important, they are the guys who will give the verdict of a person that trains for months to spend it in 36 minutes or less... In my country the judges are from the most various areas not concerning with boxing (like are dentists, medical doctors, lawers and so on), I think it must be a university specialization or an official entity to have a full course before launch judges over there, because there are such shit judging that are awful to hear the scorecards.
First time I became interested was after terrible judging: 1st Paul Williams vs Lara and then after Paquiao vs Bradley and Lara vs Canelo between others... I went to look for, how the judges scores (I think everyone who likes and follow boxing should read) and the most plausible (appears to be official) was this: (http://coolmaterial.com/feature/how-to- ... ing-match/) and this (http://boxing.isport.com/boxing-guides/ ... stem-works)
* Steve Weisfeld also talked about it. (http://www.premierboxingchampions.com/n ... core-fight).
Neurophysiologically speaking in every minute we see or observe something we digress 8 seconds, for a boxing judge this shouldn't but can be maximized and become more disturbing (even with their concentrated attention) because are circled with noises of any types among others distractions like people, ring girls, and etc, these are human beings and are subject to fail. Above this that are some mistakes that they do too (http://www.boxinginsider.com/columns/th ... dges-make/).
In my opinion, there are other variables (above the ones I said before) to consider too, but if you consider these men "Four Components of Scoring" of judges you will see that Thurman didn't was so good at "Effective Aggression" and "Ring Generalship" a little better at "Defense" (in general) and quite better at "Hard and Clean Punches" in comparison to Porter (statistics of showtime channel punchstats also showed this) could be the winning fact? well only they to know, well conected punches doesnt mean 100% victory, I think at least 40%.
In general fight and in my humble scorecard was 116-112 Porter and nothing more than that, a minimum ought to be draw.
Best regards'
Obs: In Boxrec about how to score a fight they should put a complement of how a judge scores too here at...

Re: Keith Thurman vs Shawn Porter
Absolute belter of a fight,i loved it from start to finish,as Adam said in commentary, put the Mayweather/Pacquaio fight to shame,no issues with the cards from me,i had Thurman winning 116-112,his quality just winning on the day plus his late rally when it looked Porter might be closing well and hurting him,Shawn is a beast though, just relentless in his aggression, made things very uncomfortable for Thurman and never gave him a second to get into a groove,Keith will have learned loads from this fight and the experience will help him whenever he finds things get too hot again in future fights down the road, both guys showing excellent chins
Massive credit to both fighters
PS-Sky ads pissed me off with them missing the replays and big shots,i had to keep rewinding back the fight to see it in real time instead of slow mo

Great fight- loved it. For Brook to go over to the States and beat Porter shows his level too.

Good fight that restores my faith in boxing.
Sometimes the best do fight each other & sometimes they combine to put on a good contest.
Let that be a lesson to all the prima donas out there who duck & dive, or insist on catchweights, or 98/02 splits on purses & such other nonsense.

Re: Keith Thurman vs Shawn Porter
Proper old school fight, brilliant stuff.
Keith edged it but it seems that his power isn't concussive at elite level and I think he might've reached his ceiling. I don't see him unifying the division. His vulnerability to a hard body shot reared it's head again briefly.
Porter's just fuckin relentless. Fighting like that he would have overwhelmed the Mayweather of 2009 onwards. I love the way he fights but I can see him burning out as he passes 30 so I hope he gets some big fights lined up in the next year or two.
Big respect to the referee who really let them work on the inside.

That's true.davie wrote:Bradley vs Porter could be interesting
Bradley is better skilled, but he can be drawn into a scrap.
Neither man is a concussive hitter, so it would most likely be a distance fight.
Re: Keith Thurman vs Shawn Porter
Well predicted that man. I haven't seen it yet but I've heard it's right up there.Stuarty30 wrote: This could end up a FOTY candidate.
