I know fighters have done this for years but it does grate after a while…

Both Williams and Harrison did now not ‘prepare correctly’, for their December farce. Any credibility these guys had left, and it was very little, must now be gone.

I hope Danny ‘I’m feeling right this time but wasn’t right last time’ Williams gets flattened by Skelton. As for Harrison, I guess I’ll give anyone a chance (and he used his up in the Williams debacle which was an embarrassment to me as I recommended that some of my colleagues watch the fight and I don’t think they will be asking me for recommendations on what to watch on a Saturday night ever again) so let’s see if he can produce something more uplifting now he is propping up the bar in the last chance saloon.

How many times has a boxer just said "I don't want to make any excuses." and just left it at that?

I've heard it a few times, but more often than not it's followed by a "but....."

If you need an excuse, make it a good one - Trevor Berbick once said he'd lost because he'd been drugged the night before, via the air vent in his hotel room.

Not so much an excuse, but when asked what he did differently in preparation for his win over Iran Barclay in 1989, Duran replied: "I didn't whack off".

There you go Danny/Aud - stoke those animalistic fires in your belly by keeping your hands off your 'warrior' during training.
If either could harness the spiteful beligerance of Duran into their performaces, they might actually go somewhere...

I see I instigated an amusing thread....

I remember Hamed once saying after a lucklustre performance (I think his win over Medina) "Not making excuses right but I had a bit of a cold" which clearly is an excuse.

Boxers clearly are the most delusional of all sportsmen, I guess it's how they push themselves to the extremes that they do...

JC Superstar was my first 'hero' in boxing and the fighter who cemented my love for the sport above all others.

I was put off him a bit towards the end when the excuses excuses started to flow more regularly than his double left hook, I have to say.

Daniel Judah said after his fight against Glen Johnson, that he thought Johnson was robbed and should have won.

Someone connected with Clinton Woods told me that Woods said to his team after the fight that he knew Johnson should have gotten the decision.

Amazing when you think that JC Chavez was a terrible drunkard that he did so well, he used to get absolutely bladdered in between fights.

Chavez certainly did enjoy a cerveza of two between fights from the stories I have heard!

There was a photo on the front of BN the week after the Woodhall-Catley fight with Ritchie glumly giving overhis belt to Glenn. He was class all the way, was Ritchie, without a shadow of a doubt..
