Haye? Why, if he really wanted a piece these guy's why did he sign for Maloney? There's your answer?

Still, he will have to face Cantatore next, probably on ITV and a Warren show. I hear Rome is nice this time of year too!!!

what i'm saying is it'd be good if all the brit cruisers got together. in the uk, we've had some great fights and excellent rivalries. There seems to be some venom between Haye and Macca. Two huge punchers in the same division, with designs on world title belts...

Besides, if Haye wants to be a heavyweight big shot, which seems to be the overall plan, a version of the cruiserweight title would certainly boost his marketability and he will try for one in the near future. Remember, there are only two cruiser world title belts that are fragmented (Nelson's WBO and Hill's WBA regular)

Andy

Is this the same Cantatore who mentioned, Warren, the mafia and boxing in a post fight interview after the Nelson fight on Italian TV, I can't see him wanting to fight on an SN show.

From secondsout - Hobson now rated by the WBO eh? Just shows the HUGE influence Hennessey sports have in the world of boxing - well done Mick :D :TU:

Hobson can't wait for Maccarinelli brawl

By Ant Evans: British and Commonwealth Champion Mark Hobson has accepted the challenge of facing Welsh power bomber Enzo Maccarinelli in what is expected to be a interim WBO title fight on the big MEN Arena card on March 4 in Manchester. Maccarinelli was due to challenge champion Johnny Nelson but found himself looking for an opponent after Nelson was forced out with knee trouble.

And Huddersfield's Hobson has confirmed he will be in the opposing corner, telling SecondsOut: "There are a couple of things to be ironed out, politics wise, but it's a great opportunity, a great fight, good money and fantastic exposure on ITV on the undercard of Calzaghe v Lacy. I really think I can win this one in great style. No disrespect to Johnny, but me against Enzo is a better fight for the fans because you know what you are getting with me just like with Enzo, straight at you boxing."

Hobson was training for a marking time fight on a Hennessey Sports card this Friday when manager Chris Aston called him up Monday to tell him of promoter allegedly's offer. Hobson accepted immediately - and with great excitement - despite not having fought since December of 2004, when he outpointed Bruce Scott in a defense of his domestic titles.

He said: "I've not been out on the piss and eating pizzas, I've been training. I've been out for 15 months, I know, but in those 15 months I've been in full training to fight David Haye twice. Both times the fight fell through (each was injured) at the last minute but I was still in top shape twice last year and I was already in good shape for Friday and, with two extra weeks, I will be 100% for Enzo.

"And what was Enzo doing last year? Those opponents he was bashing about (Rich LaMontagne, Roman Bugaj and Marco Heinichen) weren't up to much at all. Those sorts of fight won't have helped him any more than me training in the gym."

The 29-year-old Hobson, 24-3-1 (12), respects his Welsh-Italian opponent. "He has a lot going for him," Hobson admitted. "He's young, very strong, hasn't been beaten for six years and can really punch but with respect I don't think he has fought at the level I am at.

"He does hit hard, but I think this is an easier fight for me than David Haye was. David is very, very fast with the right hand and for whatever reason I can be caught on the right side whereas I hardly ever get hit with left hooks and Maccarinelli is a left-hook man. Like I say, he hits hard and I've got to respect that but I can't wait to see look on his face when I take some of his shots and fire right back at him. No-one has really put pressure on his him back since Lee Swaby."

Swaby knocked Maccarinelli senseless inside three rounds in what was the Welshman's fourth pro fight. To be fair to the Swansea sledgehammer, he was a baby at only 20 years old and, as Hobson knows from a similar (but avenged) experience, Swaby can crack a bit.

"I'm not sure about Enzo's chin," Hobson said. "He did get up and beat Bruce Scott (in June 2003) but since then he's not fought anyone, with respect, who tried to fight back. No disrespect, but I am a league or two above the guys he has been fighting over the last few years.

"I really fancy the job and this is exactly the type of opportunity I've wanted for ages. The phonecall about the fight was the best news I've had in ages."

SN scrambling around to find a beatable opponent for Enzo?

Let's hope the WBO tell them to shove it.....

It's not Hobson's choice yet for Enzo

Feb 18 2006

Richard Clifford, South Wales Echo

Welsh cruiserweight star Enzo Maccarinelli is still waiting to discover who he is fighting in Manchester on March 4 - and for what belts.

Despite what has been written elsewhere - including trade paper 'Boxing News' - British and Commonwealth champion Mark Hobson has NOT been confirmed as the replacement for the injury-hit Johnny Nelson.

The 29-year-old from Huddersfield has been offered the job - and accepted it - but he is only a stand-by should promoters Sports Network be unable to clinch a deal with their preferred choice, an Italian.

And no, it's not Nelson's most recent foe, Vincenzo Cantatore, who has already ruled himself out. Instead, unbeaten former Olympian Giacobbe Fragomeni is the man in demand.

Fragomeni is fifth in the WBO's current rankings and would presumably be good enough for the Puerto Rico-based authority to sanction the bout for their interim title.

An outstanding amateur, the stocky Milanese - he is more than six inches shorter than Maccarinelli - left it late to turn pro and, although he has won all 20 bouts, with eight stoppages, he is already 36 years old.
Even though Hobson is not in the WBO's top 15, it need not rule him out of an interim title shot - previous challengers to allegedly fighters have been known to appear in the rankings just in time for the bouts to be sanctioned.

If the WBO did veto Hobson, the fight would presumably go ahead as a defence of Maccarinelli's WBU crown. Another complication could involve Hobson's domestic championships, as the Board of Control do not allow boxers to hold British and world honours simultaneously.

If Hobson does end up in the other corner, it would be down to the Board whether the Lonsdale Belt would be up for grabs. Even if it is, the winner would have to make a prompt decision on which prize to keep.

Has anybody heard any more news over whether it's Hobson or this Fragomeni bloke for Enzo?

Lenny - supposed to be sorted by today - the longer the silence goes on the more my fears that Fragomeni is in are growing. Lets weigh it up - shall SN put untested Macc in with a durable, hard-hitting, up for it champion - a bout lots will want to see, or shall we get in an untested none-punching 36 year old Italian who fights stiffs?
