BROADHURST ON HIGH FOR AMERICAN RIVAL
http://www.couriermail.com.au/sport/in- ... 71f17f0894
BRISBANE scaffolder Trent Broadhurst takes his next big step on the international scene against American Shawn Miller at the Eatons Hill Hotel on August 20.
Miller has a record of 15 wins and a draw in 18 fights while Broadhurst is 17-1 with 11 KOs. The Brisbane fighter, who spends most days working on skyscraper construction, is looking to improve his world ranking of No. 12 at light-heavyweight (79kg).
The big August fight program also includes rising stars April Adams and Mark Flanagan on the undercard.
Interesting Mark Flanagan gets a mention on the Broadhurst card for August 20th, when he is also listed on the Green card for August 3rd??

HE brought down one of the greatest fighters of all time and in Brisbane on Saturday night wily American trainer John Scully will try to undo almost two decades of hard work from Queensland world-beater Trent Broadhurst.
Scully was the man behind a humbling defeat suffered by the mighty Bernard Hopkins in 2012 when his fighter Chad Dawson scored a 12-round upset. On Saturday night he launches New York light-heavyweight Shawn Miller against Broadhurst at the Eatons Hill Hotel in Brisbane’s north.
Miller, 34, from Troy, New York, has a record of 15 wins and a draw in 18 fights.
Broadhurst, 28, from Slacks Creek is 17-1 with 11 KOs and a perfect record since 2011. He started boxing aged 10 and after nearly 20 years in the sport is up against a big American with a vastly experienced coach.
Scully, 49, was a top fighter throughout the ’90s, who fought many of the big names including Germany’s Olympic champ, Henry Maske, for the IBF light-heavyweight title.
He coached Dawson to victory over Hopkins for a dramatic victory in 2012 in New Jersey.
Scully says Miller brings a lot of energy and enthusiasm into the fight with Broadhurst, who is ranked one place above Chad Dawson in the IBF rankings.
Meanwhile, Trent Broadhurst finished his sparring for the Shawn Miller fight with a fast-paced four-round workout against Anthony Mundine last Thursday night at the Logan Boxing Club, where Mundine will do much of his preparation for his long-awaited rematch with Danny Green.
“Choc (Mundine) was terrific in sparring,” Broadhurst said.
Broadhurst’s trainer Chris McCullen, who also works Mundine’s corner, said the final sparring session between the two was great work.
“Choc looked really good considering it was his first time back in the ring since his operation and his first time being hit for a long time,’’ McCullen said.
“They went harder than I thought they would but it showed that Choc is planning to be at his very best.
“Trent has also been doing a lot of work with Adam Copland, a top Brisbane amateur, who is tall like Shawn Miller and a very good boxer.
“For this week we will just do a couple of light sessions on the pads and on the bag, concentrating on being sharp with a lot of head movement. Beating Shawn Miller is very important for Trent’s career — he’s been boxing since he was 10 and we can’t afford any slip ups now.’’

Miller couldn't take Broadhursts speed or power, he didn't want to be there after the 5th round and Trent started to pour it on from the 6th round.Miller was looking for any excuse to get out of there, started crying he was hit on the back of the head ( that's what happens when you keep putting your head down ) it wasn't the head shots that did the damage it was the body shots that were cutting him in half. Great win for Trent let hope his next fight is in the United States

Handy win for Broadhurst. Got to wonder why Miller fronted up so far over the limit though?colin russell wrote:Miller couldn't take Broadhursts speed or power, he didn't want to be there after the 5th round and Trent started to pour it on from the 6th round.Miller was looking for any excuse to get out of there, started crying he was hit on the back of the head ( that's what happens when you keep putting your head down ) it wasn't the head shots that did the damage it was the body shots that were cutting him in half. Miller wanted out from round 5 onward. Bending continuously contributed to back of head shots.
