Midlands Area Small Hall Scene Thread

Right got this idea from the 'Manchester' thread.

Know there's a few on here from the Midlands so thought could have one centralised thread that we try and keep going for anything relating to the local scene that might not normally get a thread started about it.

Few shows coming up in the area, Welborn v Cunningham definitely the pick em of them. Craig Cunningham current Middleweight Midlands Area champion moves down in weight to take on current Light Middleweight champion Welborn at the Futsal Arena in Hockley (Birmingham) on 16th July.

The show in Cannock (24th July at the Chase Leisure Centre) also looks a good one with Luke Paddock v Anthony Upton for the vacant English Light Welterweight title headlining.

Also shows currently schedulled for Walsall (Town Hall) and Solihull (Tudor Grange Leisure Centre) for Saturday coming, Worksop (North Notts Community Arena) and Tewkesbury (Tewesbury school) on Saturday 23rd July.

Rob Hunt's fight off this coming weekend, shame was looking forward to watching that one always good value Warburton and a change he may just upset the plan.

The thing is boxrec had Warburton down as fighting in Sunderland Sunday when I looked last week.

Might not be a bad thing for hunt. ( personally never rated him) the run Warburton on and if he fancies it his a real handful.

That's happened b4 videos after pull outs. Glover has pulled out a couple of times in the past just b4 fight night. Haven't seen anything about him tho.

Lennox Clarke looked explosive Saturday stopping Gillen in the 1st round.

Really want to see his opposition stepped up now, I read that they wanted to make Saturdays fight for the vacant Midlands Area Title but the board (understandably imo) knocked it back. I'd still like to see Lennox fight for that belt. Maybe even against Tom Stokes who was also on the bill? Should be easily made and would do a lot of interest locally. Not sure they might think its too soon for Stokes though.

Anyone know the results from the MGM Birmingham show Saturday, still doesn't appear to be on here.

Really want to see his opposition stepped up now, I read that they wanted to make Saturdays fight for the vacant Midlands Area Title but the board (understandably imo) knocked it back. I'd still like to see Lennox fight for that belt. Maybe even against Tom Stokes who was also on the bill? Should be easily made and would do a lot of interest locally. Not sure they might think its too soon for Stokes though.

Not too sure always on his shows though so I'd imagine its a match that could be made if they wanted to like you say.

They both do decent tickets and unbeaten so it cud happen I just don't think it will. Errol builds fighters and goes English title route unless a British title shot on short notice comes up. Area fights only happen if he can match them well against another promotional out fit. he doesn't match his own lads at area level. A few fights sud have happened that never did. Chris glover. Hunt Pearce rematch.

I've heard Lennox had no amateur experience and came from unlicensed background. Anyone know more?

Dean Gillen is a trier. He used to train with me as an amateur. Game and fit. Didn't have much experience prior to going pro so to think he is 3-3 is quite an achievement. I hope he manages to snag himself a challenge belt.

Dean Gillen is a trier. He used to train with me as an amateur. Game and fit. Didn't have much experience prior to going pro so to think he is 3-3 is quite an achievement. I hope he manages to snag himself a challenge belt.

Yeah len was doing white collar b4 he turned pro and from wat can remember he was knocking them out for fun.

Cunningham got the nod in a close fight (according to reports) to become two weight Midlands Area Champion.

Was a great fight boxer v brawler and very very close i initialy scored it by a point to jason (raised a few eyebrows when saying this afterwards) but after sitting down watching the fight at home with out crowd going nuts and not having to concentrate on everything else i scored it for Cunningham.

I also had Welborn winning (by 3) scoring from ringside but having spoken to various press and boxing officionados it seems opinions are very split. It was a cracking fight between 2 great lads. Hoping we might get to see the rematch on a bigger stage

From a personal point of view I'd like to see a rematch on a similar stage (prefer smaller hall shows with fights like this topping the bill than them half way down an arena show card), but get it may need a big tv show to pick it up to get the £ a rematch would warrant.

Maybe Matchroom could pick it up for their October Brum show? That would be good.
