Golovkin-Eubank Moves Closer After 'Very Positive' Talks in London
Re: Golovkin-Eubank Moves Closer After 'Very Positive' Talks in London
Does nobody else on here think junior takes far too many clean shots ? he's hardly elusive and I think he'll be in too deep with the top boys .
Will be fun to watch tho.

He's always open to a left hook. He's very wild with right hooks and if he misses a right uppercut he's wide open.
He must do something right though. Technically he's awful but he gets away with it. He seems to be a nightmare to figure out once your in with him. Very unorthodox.
From a personal viewpoint he'd seriously improve if he found a coach who could teach him technical fundamentals whilst at the same time keep his unorthodox methods and variety of punches.
Adam Booth was a great choice but it's going to be hard to find a quality trainer who has the little ego and temperament to deal with team Eubank.
The only other fighter who might give him problems that GGG fought is Monroe Jr. He's really underrated and has a slippery style that Saunders used early on.
I'd fancy Eubank but could see Monroe taking a few rounds.

He definietly is hittable that's for sure. I think he's hard to gauge though as he tends to either be fully at range or all of a sudden completely on top of you firing rapid combinations and firing those uppercuts in.PredatorHayds wrote:He's always open to a left hook. He's open but hard to pull the trigger on because his unorthodox movement makes it hard to judge distance against.

Yeah that makes sense. He also ducks very low at times- almost below the belt line at times. Got a strange style lol.PredatorHayds wrote:I've spoke to to a couple of lads who have fought him.lefty wrote:He definietly is hittable that's for sure. I think they have already got probably the only guy who would put up with being pushed to the back ,,Senior is the boss in that training camp and anyone else is ALWAYS going to be an assistant nothing more

Can see how guys of the level he's fought could have these problems ,, GGG , well he won't , he will find his distance and clobber jnr within a couple of rnds , he's on another level , to what jnr has fought

It would be the same story from nearly-man Murray - hands up, take shots on gloves, not doing enough to win.crusader wrote:Guy like Chudinov and Blackwell took flush shot after flush shot yet made it deep into their fights with Eubank, who clearly doesn't have major power and needs to land a lot to get anyone decent out of there. I imagine that Murray could better the efforts of anyone Eubank has beaten.
As mentioned, Jr. has to land A LOT to get decent opponents out of there, guys who are worse than Murray and no more durable than him. To me it seems like you're overrating Jr. and giving him too much credit for beating up limited opposition.
People didn't think he'd stop Blackwell or spike either. I think most would agree that Eubank beats Murray but I accept that Eubank points would be what most people would think would happen, rather than Eubank ko. I'm basing the possibility of a ko on Eubank turning it on and hurting Murray with big uppercuts. It's just the way I see their styles mixing but I do accept id be in the minority.
Re: Golovkin-Eubank Moves Closer After 'Very Positive' Talks in London
Eubank stopping those two didn't surprise me...they're very limited and easy to hit, and O'Sullivan in particular looked clueless when BJS routed him.
Even when Eubank landed repeatedly he needed many rounds to stop Blackwell and Chudinov (and he couldn't drop them or Spike), so I don't know if it's simply a matter of him turning it up and putting his shots together. Eubank clearly isn't a GGG or Groves level puncher, and he may also find it tough to seriously hurt Murray in the first place.

It's all about levels, the guys that Eubank Jr has looked destructive against are a LONG way below GGG.

The overrating of Eubank Jr on this thread is truly astonishing.

Re: Golovkin-Eubank Moves Closer After 'Very Positive' Talks in London
I think past level of opponents is irrelevant, Eubank hasn't really gotten out of second gear gear yet, and he won't until someone makes him, enter GGG, I'm expecting Eubank to raise his game in this fight and until then we won't really know how good junior is

I asked this question before but nobody answered- If Eubank pulled off this near miracle and somehow beat Golovkin, where would that rank in terms of all time great British wins?

It would be right up there for me, saw a guy on YouTube saying it would be like Hatton vs Kosta, I'd say it would be a much bigger upset than that.lefty wrote:I asked this question before but nobody answered- If Eubank pulled off this near miracle and somehow beat Golovkin, where would that rank in terms of all time great British wins?
Re: Golovkin-Eubank Moves Closer After 'Very Positive' Talks in London
Yeah I agree. Tszyu was not that much older than Golovkin but he he definietly had more miles on the clock and had suffered a lot of injuries. Golovkin has looked completely unstoppable bar maybe Ward if he was still in distance weight wise.Nightmare Roy wrote:It would be right up there for me, saw a guy on YouTube saying it would be like Hatton vs Kosta, I'd say it would be a much bigger upset than that.lefty wrote:I asked this question before but nobody answered- If Eubank pulled off this near miracle and somehow beat Golovkin, where would that rank in terms of all time great British wins?
It's hard for me to pick many wins that would surpass it.
Re: Golovkin-Eubank Moves Closer After 'Very Positive' Talks in London
Yeah, it would be huge. As good as GGG clearly is, he's still missing a couple of career defining wins on his record, and that might detract a tad if Eubank Jnr does pull off the upset.
For example, Don Curry had already beaten some established names, so Lloyd Honeyghan's win was bullet proof under scrutiny.

Past level of opponents is never irrelevant and are you really trying to say that BJS didn't make Eubank Jr get out of second gear? Last time I checked he actually lost that fight.littlepug wrote:I think past level of opponents is irrelevant, Eubank hasn't really gotten out of second gear gear yet, and he won't until someone makes him, enter GGG, I'm expecting Eubank to raise his game in this fight and until then we won't really know how good junior is

he gave that fight away through inexperience, everybody else hes just gone through the motions, if he had been overly troubled by anyone he wouldn't be in this position, hes a classic case of a boxer that fights at his opponents level which I think bodes well for a GGG fightDeserter wrote:Past level of opponents is never irrelevant and are you really trying to say that BJS didn't make Eubank Jr get out of second gear? Re: Golovkin-Eubank Moves Closer After 'Very Positive' Talks in London
That's a completely valid point. I guess my only counter to that is that BJS was the first world class (actually first decent fighter full stop) opponent that Eubank had ever fought. I also don't think he had been 12 rounds before that fight? I don't think he'd even been 10!? I do believe he was concerned about his cardio somewhat as the first 6 rounds he fought at a very slow pace and then the last 6 he came on very strongly and Saunders was blowing out his backside and looking like he could fall apart in the last couple.Deserter wrote:Past level of opponents is never irrelevant and are you really trying to say that BJS didn't make Eubank Jr get out of second gear? That's not to say that will factor against Golovkin but I think it's a fair point to be made.
Re: Golovkin-Eubank Moves Closer After 'Very Positive' Talks in London
He 'gave' that fight away by getting outboxed and then not being able to shift through the gears enough - as I've stated elsewhere in this thread I think he's another Howard Eastman or Martin Murray, both of whom put in performances that implied they had more in their locker, but the reality was that was just an illusion.littlepug wrote:he gave that fight away through inexperience, everybody else hes just gone through the motions, if he had been overly troubled by anyone he wouldn't be in this position, hes a classic case of a boxer that fights at his opponents level which I think bodes well for a GGG fightDeserter wrote:Past level of opponents is never irrelevant and are you really trying to say that BJS didn't make Eubank Jr get out of second gear? We shall see, but you're right about Eastman, he didn't have more in the locker, that's why he always fell short.Deserter wrote:He 'gave' that fight away by getting outboxed and then not being able to shift through the gears enough - as I've stated elsewhere in this thread I think he's another Howard Eastman or Martin Murray, both of whom put in performances that implied they had more in their locker, but the reality was that was just an illusion.littlepug wrote:he gave that fight away through inexperience, everybody else hes just gone through the motions, if he had been overly troubled by anyone he wouldn't be in this position, hes a classic case of a boxer that fights at his opponents level which I think bodes well for a GGG fightDeserter wrote: Past level of opponents is never irrelevant and are you really trying to say that BJS didn't make Eubank Jr get out of second gear? I think that BJS is doing well out of the fact the division is currently fractured. I don't think he'd give GGG many problems at all as he doesn't hit hard enough command his respect, or the stamina to keep on the move for 12 rounds and win enough rounds. That was probably Eubank Jr's best performance, although he lost.
Re: Golovkin-Eubank Moves Closer After 'Very Positive' Talks in London
will have to disagree on this one, eubank has shown he can turn it on when he has to, the BJS fight was just a learning experience and a win wasn't far off for him, and as for murray and Eastman I never thought much of either but I suppose we all see things differentlyDeserter wrote:He 'gave' that fight away by getting outboxed and then not being able to shift through the gears enough - as I've stated elsewhere in this thread I think he's another Howard Eastman or Martin Murray, both of whom put in performances that implied they had more in their locker, but the reality was that was just an illusion.littlepug wrote:he gave that fight away through inexperience, everybody else hes just gone through the motions, if he had been overly troubled by anyone he wouldn't be in this position, hes a classic case of a boxer that fights at his opponents level which I think bodes well for a GGG fightDeserter wrote: Past level of opponents is never irrelevant and are you really trying to say that BJS didn't make Eubank Jr get out of second gear? I'd expect him to beat BJS if they fight again, and I think whilst it might be a shorter night's work for GGG, Eubank would have his moments, whereas BJS would be in survival mode for the duration, as he realises he can neither outbox nor outfight GGG and is left with evading him for as long as possible.lefty wrote:I think Eubank would put up a better showing against Golovkin than BJS surpringly enough.jamesmcdonnell wrote:We shall see, but you're right about Eastman, he didn't have more in the locker, that's why he always fell short.Deserter wrote: He 'gave' that fight away by getting outboxed and then not being able to shift through the gears enough - as I've stated elsewhere in this thread I think he's another Howard Eastman or Martin Murray, both of whom put in performances that implied they had more in their locker, but the reality was that was just an illusion.
