what better arena for Jnr to get mullered in

I think it would do very well. Jnr is well known imo his name alone is enough plus you then have the Blakwell fight that got spoken about and had alot of coverage hes been on a few of AJs undercards and its the casuals that follow him that would go to Wembley for a 'stacked' card. Hearn would roll out the usual Benn ect and then have either Degale or brook in a tittle fight on the bill as well. Plus I think GGG is one of the best know fighters in this country that a lot of people have never seen fight but like to call the best just because theyve heard people talk about him.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Hardly anyone in the UK knows who Jr is, let alone GGG, it's not a Wembley fight.Oiky wrote:I think it would do very very well at wembleyafcmarshall wrote: would be around 80,000 ask carl. No, he isn't. He is well known in boxing circles, but barely at all outside it. You're living in a bubble.afcmarshall wrote:I think it would do very well. So you think Froch and Groves were better know than the Eubank name before there second fight?jamesmcdonnell wrote:No, he isn't. He is well known in boxing circles, but barely at all outside it. You think a promoter will risk hiring Wembley for an absolute fortune, risking their wedge, in the hope they get 90,000 people? Absolutely bonkers business plan.
The only reason Froch v Groves sold that many, was the controversy surrounding the 1st fight, and the fact it was a huge grudge match.
Of course Froch and groves were better known. There first fight got coverage in mainstream media on TV, in the newspapers. They spent months and months hyping the rematch and went on a massive publicity tour. Froch was already a big name because he was a multiple times world champ who built his profile over many years, and Groves helped massively sell the fight.afcmarshall wrote:So you think Froch and Groves were better know than the Eubank name before there second fight?jamesmcdonnell wrote:No, he isn't. I dont think this will be at Wembley because of the time of year but I think Eddie would have 100% booked Wembley for it had it been the right time of year. People go to 'events' like this just to be there and to tell everyone on social media there going look at things like the cheltenham festival how many people would go to that and have know clue what horses are running or what races are on that day. And I honestly think people are underestimating how many people in this country would just pay to see GGG
I think you are mistaken. GGG stopped Macklin and Murray, was scheduled to fight Lee and has been mentioned a lot in BJS and Eubank related discussions. Any Brit remotely interested in boxing should know who he is.jamesmcdonnell wrote: Most people in this country have zero idea who GGG is, you're living in a dream world. If you walk down a high street and asked people to name british boxers of past and present I think the name Eubank would come up a lot more than froch groves personally. You say they hyped up the last Wembley fight do you not think Eddie would do exactly the same with this? From the people I saw at Froch Groves most of them didnt have a clue what was going on who was fighting who same as a lot of people at AJ fights they are just there because it was a hyped up event. I wasnt comparing GGG on his own to Cheltenham I just think if this was hyped up like it would be with Eddie and sky it would sell out.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Of course Froch and groves were better known. Well, I guess we will have to agree to disagree. Selling out Wembley requires two things, a fight of huge local significance, and a fighter from London, to sell it out.boxing_rocks wrote:I think you are mistaken. Well, it's all conjecture, but I don't see how Eubank Senior's name will sell it out, given that he's not fighting.afcmarshall wrote:If you walk down a high street and asked people to name british boxers of past and present I think the name Eubank would come up a lot more than froch groves personally. I might be wrong but just feel there would be enough casuals that would buy into the Eubank bullshit and enough genuine boxing fans would want to see GGG.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Well, it's all conjecture, but I don't see how Eubank Senior's name will sell it out, given that he's not fighting.afcmarshall wrote:If you walk down a high street and asked people to name british boxers of past and present I think the name Eubank would come up a lot more than froch groves personally. Benn v Eubank managed to sell out old Trafford, but BOTH of them were household names, and it was a rematch, and a HUGE grudge match.
I think you'll find that there are very few, if any fights in this country, that have sold out a football stadium, where one of the fighters wasn't from these shores. McGuigan v Pedroza is the most recent one I can think of, at Loftus road, which was a small ground by comparison.
No way a promoter is going to risk taking on a venue of that size on a whim, they could sell 40,000 tickets and lose a small fortune.afcmarshall wrote:I might be wrong but just feel there would be enough casuals that would buy into the Eubank bullshit and enough genuine boxing fans would want to see GGG.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Well, it's all conjecture, but I don't see how Eubank Senior's name will sell it out, given that he's not fighting.afcmarshall wrote: If you walk down a high street and asked people to name british boxers of past and present I think the name Eubank would come up a lot more than froch groves personally. Why do that when you can sell out a smaller venue without taking the risk? They will easily sell out the 02, they'll have some very tasty ticket prices for anywhere on the ground. GGG will be demanding a lot of money to come over and put his belt on the line.
The other problem with Wembley, is it's the arse end of nowhere with shite transport links.
Yeah, if you live nearby, great, if you don't, good luck getting home without spending a small fortune on a cab.afcmarshall wrote:unless you live a few stops down on the tube like mejamesmcdonnell wrote:No way a promoter is going to risk taking on a venue of that size on a whim, they could sell 40,000 tickets and lose a small fortune.afcmarshall wrote: I might be wrong but just feel there would be enough casuals that would buy into the Eubank bullshit and enough genuine boxing fans would want to see GGG.

Both the o2 and Wembley are pretty well served via tube, train and bus problems are when things such as boxing finish so late at night and the train connections ect have finished.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Yeah, if you live nearby, great, if you don't, good luck getting home without spending a small fortune on a cab.afcmarshall wrote:unless you live a few stops down on the tube like mejamesmcdonnell wrote:

Mind you, last time I saw boxing at the 02, the tube finished before we could get there, absolute chaos, thousands of people waiting for cabs, took about 2 hours to get a cab.
Wembley's connections are way slower than the 02, but yes agreed. It's a bastard getting home from either once the tube stops if you don't live in West London.afcmarshall wrote:Both the o2 and Wembley are pretty well served via tube, train and bus problems are when things such as boxing finish so late at night and the train connections ect have finished.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Yeah, if you live nearby, great, if you don't, good luck getting home without spending a small fortune on a cab.afcmarshall wrote: unless you live a few stops down on the tube like mejust hope where ever it maybe the fight actually happens and theres enough tickets to go round
