Cameron Hammond lands Commonwealth title opportunity
http://www.worldboxingnews.net/2016/07/ ... n-deadline
Reigning Commonwealth welterweight champion Bradley Skeete of England has informed the Commonwealth Boxing Council that as he is unable to make a defence in the near future he has voluntarily vacated the title.
Mandatory contender Cameron Hammond of Australia has been given the opportunity to make a match against another suitable contender for the vacant title.

Re: Cameron Hammond lands Commonwealth title opportunity
Not sure why Skeete's interest in the Commonwealth title has suddenly 'waned'. But I see he holds a WBO European title that he is about to make his 4th defence of against a Frenchman, Alexandre Lepelley.AntonS wrote:I been told by reliable source Skeete was stripped of the title 'cos he declined to defend against HammondLike a Boss wrote:http://www.worldboxingnews.net/2016/07/ ... n-deadline

From the article below it sounds like Skeete is prioritizing on trying to win a world WBO title.

I heard that too. That is that Hammond would fight on the undercard of Hope vs Singh in India.Sids wrote:I read he was fighting in India this month im not sure if it will be for the belt tho.

True, and probably why Horn's name doesn't seem to be getting a mention at Commonwealth level.

Cameron Hammond out to impress on Delhi undercardSids wrote:I read he was fighting in India this month im not sure if it will be for the belt tho.
http://www.worldboxingnews.net/2016/07/ ... -undercard
CAMERON HAMMOND has packed his bags and relocated to Brisbane in order to chase his dream of becoming a great of Australian boxing.
The unbeaten Olympian has been out of action since he unanimously outpointed Indonesia’s Sahlan Coral last November and is keen to get back to his best.
He is currently training full-time alongside fellow professionals Kerry Hope, Liam Hutchinson and fast rising James MacDonald and is firing on all cylinders as he prepares to appear on the undercard of Hope’s clash with Indian superstar Vijender Singh in New Delhi on July 16.
"This next fight in India is exciting....to fight on such a big occasion and on my stablemate’s undercard is exactly what I need as I haven’t fought since late last year". Cameron said.
"I’m 15-0 now and I can’t wait for the next phase ahead and I’ll be ready for whatever my promoter Ricky Hatton has planned for me.
"Since moving to Brisbane I’ve got good people around me who can help guide me and with Hatton Promotions, I know they can take me as far as possible in my career".
Trainer Gareth Williams added: “Cam's a good kid and I think he has some great attributes as a fighter,
“There’s no faster Jab or straight right hand then his in the game...it’s good to have him back and living the life of a fighter so we can now see his true potential.”
Re: Cameron Hammond lands Commonwealth title opportunity
He was never interested in the Commonwealth title, it does nothing for him. He'll keep hold of the WBO European because it keeps his ranking with them while he wins the British title outright, that's the real prize for him before he fights for a world title. He could have fought Hammond in September but it would have been a complete waste of time when he can get the first defence of the British title out of the way instead against better opposition.Like a Boss wrote:Not sure why Skeete's interest in the Commonwealth title has suddenly 'waned'. Re: Cameron Hammond lands Commonwealth title opportunity
I'm not convinced Hammond is in the top 5 of Australasia let alone the rest of the commonwealth. Good luck to him though.
Re: Cameron Hammond lands Commonwealth title opportunity
His win over rodolfo blanco is more convincing then horns and he only trains part time...tsmithy50 wrote:I'm not convinced Hammond is in the top 5 of Australasia let alone the rest of the commonwealth. Good luck to him though.
Re: Cameron Hammond lands Commonwealth title opportunity
I think Horn could be the real deal not sure about Hammond. The winner of Bowyn Morgan/Kris George on the Parker Christchurch undercard would be a good match up, I don't think its worthy of a commonwealth title fight though.

Re: Cameron Hammond lands Commonwealth title opportunity
5 days out and no opponent named for Cameron Hammond as yet. I don't think there is anyone in India at his weight ranked anywhere near Hammond. So not expecting a big test here.

Re: Cameron Hammond lands Commonwealth title opportunity
As anticipated, Cameron Hammond fought an overmatched opponent on the Hope Vs Singh undercard. Scoring a UD win over a fighter making his pro debut.
Not really sure what the point of such a fight is for a guy now 16-0 and likely to be heading toward a Commonwealth title fight?
