wtf? Alex Arthur v Gary St Clair???

This just sloped in to the schedule. 29th April for Arthur's commonwealth title.

Er, can anyone shed light on this? For one, I thought it would be pretty definite that AA's next outing would be a mandatory EBU defence against Gulyakavich (or however you spell it) in May.

For two, St Clair is a featherweight with a decent WBO ranking.

Er...that's all I have to say about that

Very true James, although I hear Isla isn't bad with a speedbag herself.

I don't have any bones to pick with St Clair if this does come to fruition. I'd actually say he would be a pretty tough opponent.

Which is why I'm a bit perplexed by this - it can't surely be a commonwealth mandatory, since St Clair cannot be rated at SF overnight, and whilst it would be a very decent level of opponent for AA as a comm defence, I can't see much in it for him since St Clair has been a featherweight for a long while now.

St Clair UD'ed current Commonwealth Featherweight champion 'Action' Jackson Asiku(the guy that beat Marc Callaghan in a round) just over two years ago and going by the rest of his record he seems a good opponent .

Undefeated Sergey Gulyakevich could be Alex Arthur's next opponent as he chases a world title opportunity.

The Belarusian has been nominated as challenger for Arthur's European super-featherweight title, although no decision has been made by promoter allegedly as to whether the match will go ahead.

With a 17-0 (9) record, including a second-round stoppage of Tontcho Tontchev, Gulyakevich certainly looks the part.

But Arthur, who defeated Ricky Burns on points at the weekend, will fancy his chances of making a second successful defence of his crown.

St Clair looks like a tougher test, but Harrison Vs Arthur would be the fight for me especially with McCullough in the Arthur corner. I don't think Arthur would stand much of a chance though.

It was in the evening news today. The April 29th date is fixed, but the opponent isn't. It could be for any three of the belts. St Clair or the Belerussian then it would seem. Either is a very decent test.

I saw in the paper, read in a bbc article online, and now in the boxrec schedule, it's a 3-title defence supposedly. That would mean it would have to be a British fighter (stunning deduction there by me)

Not a fantastic range left that Arthur hasn't fought. Johanneson I suppose, if he won a British eliminator.
