Anthony Mundine says he's deep in negotiations over a rematch with Danny Green
https://www.sbs.com.au/news/article/201 ... -next-year
Anthony Mundine says he's deep in negotiations over a rematch with Danny Green.
Mundine has declared he'll be ready to fight Danny Green early next year, with the rematch now looking more likely than ever and talk of an Australia Day bout even emerging.
Mundine said they were now deep in negotiations following his successful hip surgery four months ago, and reiterated he's prepared to fight significantly lighter than Green.
It's understood there's even been a push to stage the highly anticipated clash on Australia Day, deemed by many indigenous Australians as a day of mourning.
And while the 40-year-old would still love the bout to be held at the sacred site of Uluru, he'd fight Green anywhere and on any date for "the biggest payday out there".
"I reckon another three months I'll be right and then just prepare for the fight, I need six months to prepare to get my body right," Mundine said.
"The Green and Mundine fight is unique because of our first fight, the build-up and rivalry between two camps and him blaming it on weight and stuff - that's why I'm going to erase that claim.
"But the telling factor is the white system getting behind him.
"And me being who I am and speak the way I speak, and stand up for my plight being an Aboriginal man, race comes into it.
"That's what's going to make this fight so big."
Mundine has previously said he'd be prepared to fight at catchweight set at 83kg - meaning he would have to gain about 10kg while Green would have to drop around 6kg - but only if `The Man' gets a 60-40 share of the purse.
However he appeared to have softened his stance, only saying the money "fluctuates".
"He's going to have the advantage because I'll give away all that weight," said Mundine, who had recently been keen to fight boom Brisbane boxer Jeff Horn.
"I've been fighting at 69.85, the fight I want to fight him again to make the weight is going to be 83kg.
"I won't even make 83kg - I'll make about 78-80kg.
"He'll be probably 90kg by the time he gets into the ring.
"By the time I get into the ring I'll be 78-80kg and he'll be 10kg heavier."
Regardless, Mundine backed himself to win and drew further confidence from his ever-improving hip since his career-saving operation in England in February.
"My range of movement is just crazy now," Mundine said.
"I've never had it in six, seven, eight years - that's how long it's been.
"I'm really excited and that's why I'm confident I can beat Green no matter what."

This fight was always going to happen. Too much money involved for it not to. The only question was when, and it looks like Australia Day or very soon after.

Re: Anthony Mundine says he's deep in negotiations over a rematch with Danny Green
The story is doing the rounds big time and the fight details expected to be finalised within a month according to this one :
Anthony Mundine-Danny Green rematch could take place on Australia Day 2017
http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sport/ ... 0081823895
THE Anthony Mundine v Danny Green now appears certain to go ahead early next year, and there is even a push to stage the showpiece rematch on Australia Day.
Mundine is keen on locking in the historic date in a bid to highlight the message that as far as many indigenous people are concerned, the national holiday is considered a day of mourning.
However, promoters will be concerned by the abundance of sport already on Australia Day, with cricket and Australian Open always high-rating events.
Details of the bout are expected to be finalised within a month, and even if the Australia Day proposal is abandoned, the fight is likely to go ahead early in 2017.
It’s now 10 years since Mundine famously beat Green in front of 30,000 people at the Sydney Football Stadium.
But Mundine, now four months post hip surgery, admits the rematch will be one of the great tests of his career, with the former rugby league star to go up in weight to meet Green.
The 41-year-old is happy to fight Green on any date in the new year, but admits Australia Day would capture the nation’s attention.
“It’s looking good man, we’re negotiating right now. It’s coming down to pretty much waiting for the heads of agreement to be drawn up and trying to get it popping,” Mundine told The Daily Telegraph at an event in Sydney hosted by Jr. NBA Clinic and Charity Bounce, mentoring 40 disadvantaged kids.
“He wants that redemption believe me. He wants it as bad as I want to win. I’ve got to make sure I’m on my A game.
“100 per cent, I would love that date (Australia Day).
“That’ll definitely get the whole country involved. If we can do that why wouldn’t we do that?
“I’m down for whatever date and that makes sense because this fight is not just two fighters.
“It’s a racial sort of war. Many injustices have been done on my people, Aboriginal people. And the system and the government, they stand behind him.”
Mundine says the fight will likely be set at 83kg, but that in reality he would be giving up more than 10kg to Green.
Size, age and the fact it will be well over 12 months between fights for Mundine by the time he jumps in the ring with Green, doesn’t concern the outspoken star.
“We agree on a weight which is 83kg — that’s 13kg over what I’ve been fighting. I won’t even be able to make that weight to be honest,” said Mundine, who hasn’t ruled out fighting on if he wins.
“I’ll probably be able to make about 78-80 max. That’s going into the ring. I reckon he’ll be 90 going in, so he’ll be 10, 12kg heavier than me.
“But I believe speed beats power and as long as I’m defensively right and I don’t get hit then he’s not going to hurt nothing.
“This is obviously a massive test because he has all the variables in his favour.”

Good grief we have another 6 or 7 months of this he stands for the system that has been ooppressing aborigines bollocks. GREAT.
Hope there's a double knockout or 1 oof them gets a career ending but not too serious injury before this farce.

No mention of a warm up fight for Mundine , so the taxi drivers of Buenos Aires can all breath a collective sigh of relief!

As I thought, Choc couldnt crack a NRL side which some of us would be thinking is a no brainer but Choc obviously felt he could do it. So now its boxing.

It wouldn't surprise me if Mundine went in without a warm up. I think they will both retire after this fight anyway. It is the only reason Green came back and it is the reason Mundine went off to the States and spent a fortune out of pocket on getting his hip fixed. Big payday and off into the sunset for both in my opinion.Beltane wrote:No mention of a warm up fight for Mundine , so the taxi drivers of Buenos Aires can all breath a collective sigh of relief!

Disappointed That Choc is making green to be the white race and all its ills. Not really what I like to see.
It's not Danny Green, seems that he is channelling Ali and Frazier, Frazier was the most 'Black' of any heavyweight there ever was. And Frazier never forgave Ali.

Watching these two shonks go round again would be about as exciting as having your wisdom teeth removed.
Agree with Da Goose that a well deserved ending would be a similtaneous 1st Round KO with both men
on their backs receiving the ten count.
A fitting venue for this charade would be Brophy's Tent at the Mt Isa rodeo.

ANTHONY Mundine is lucky to be getting a fight with Danny Green because it’s the only chance of a big payday the former world champ has left.
That was the message from Green yesterday as he hit golf balls with his son Archie on a Perth driving range and imagined that he was unloading on Mundine’s head with hooks and slices.
Green said he was delighted with recent reports that Mundine was prepared to fight him next January at a weight limit of 83kg.
Mundine won their first fight 10 years ago when they came into the ring 7kg lighter and Green has always maintained he was severely weight-drained in the most lucrative fight ever staged in Australia.
“It’s good that Choc is finally seeing reason and that he finally realises this is the biggest fight for him,’’ Green said.
“It’s taken him 10 years to say ‘yes’ to a rematch and I’m ready to go.
“I’m very excited about getting the chance to square things up but I’m not getting ahead of myself. I have a big fight on August 3 in Melbourne against Kane Watts and I don’t want him derailing any plans for the future.’’
Green, 43, is hoping for a solid hitout against the 33-year-old Melbourne cruiserweight (90kg) who has 18 wins in 20 fights.
“I’m more experienced than Kane and I’m more skilled and I’ve fought better opponents all over the world,’’ Green said.
“But he’s 10 years younger than me and hungry to knock out a big name.’’
To prevent that happening Green has been sparring rugged West Australian sluggers Rod Powdrill, Luke Sharpe and the new Victorian super-middleweight champion Paul Morrison.

It's his biggest payday but Mundine could rematch Geale and make good coin(if Geale beats Quinlan). Who could Green fight to get a good payday?.Like a Boss wrote:http://www.couriermail.com.au/sport/in- ... 71f17f0894

Last I heard Geale thought Mundine should retire anyway.
We all know Mundine vs Green is the 'big dance' though don't we? Even though some argued until they were blue in the face it would never happen
Re: Anthony Mundine says he's deep in negotiations over a rematch with Danny Green
True I guess Mundine has no principles like Green. I guess the Hatley loss has shown him his level and he will cash out against Green hope he doesn't
suffer any long term damage from all the hits to the head he's taken. Meanwhile we have to endure this build up for 6-7 months, great.
Still think he should fight Geale if he beats Quinlan it's closer to his optimum weight range and he could probably make another few mill like there last fight did. And it would be for another ''world title'' as well as ticking Green off.

We now know both Mundine and Green want the rematch. It appears 83kg has been agreed to and that the fight will very likely take place in January.

They are professional boxers at the end of their respective roads and have the opportunity to fight for the second biggest purse of each of their careers.
Do you really think they should do themselves out of millions of dollars just because in trash talking each other they said they wouldn't fight each other again?

They are professional boxers at the end of their respective roads and have the opportunity to fight for the second biggest purse of each of their careers.
Do you really think they should do themselves out of millions of dollars just because in trash talking each other they said they wouldn't fight each other again?
Anthony aint big enough to fight Cruiserweights/Heavyweight's whats Tony got to do with it this 2016 not the 70's or early 80's show me a man who fought his last fight at Jr Middleweight then fights a Cruiserweight in his next fight i'll wait for you and your spin off

That was your question and I answered it for you.
Anthony's own father was a natural middleweight. Fought there most of his career. But he jumped up to heavyweight a number of times and gave away much more than 10kgs.
Don't ask questions if you don't want to know the answer mate.
