Adonis Stevenson vs Thomas Williams Jr.
This is a pretty intriguing match to me. Both guys have great power, Stevenson has more obviously. Both have a lone loss that was rather fluky. The most glaring variable is their age difference, Stevenson being 10 years older. What do you guys think about this fight?
Re: Adonis Stevenson vs Thomas Williams Jr.
Williams mentally unraveled then straight up quit once Campillo cut him and turned up the heat. Stevenson at least returned from his L to defeat several top ten opponents and stop Boone, but I don't think Williams has done enough to have his loss excused as fluky.
Anyway, Adonis is the better puncher and has more tools overall, but he's getting up there and for the last two years has been in with soft opposition that would probably help mask signs of decline. I still think he should win this, but Williams has more firepower than guys like Karpency, Sukhotsky, and old Bika, and it wouldn't be a shock if he caught a somewhat faded Stevenson and pulled it off. It also wouldn't shock me if Williams gets another boo boo and caves again.

I think Thomas has the better ability. His heart and who lands first to me will be the telling factor to me.crusader wrote:Williams mentally unraveled then straight up quit once Campillo cut him and turned up the heat. When has Stevenson outboxed someone a world class fighter.lefty wrote:No way is Williams more skilled than Stevenson.world ranked wrote:I think Thomas has the better ability. When has Williams? Stevensons wins over Dawson, cloud and Bellew are still better than anything Williams has ever done.world ranked wrote:When has Stevenson outboxed someone a world class fighter.lefty wrote:No way is Williams more skilled than Stevenson.world ranked wrote:

Re: Adonis Stevenson vs Thomas Williams Jr.
Stevenson clearly has better boxing skills to me. He's effectively used lateral movement and the jab to get the better of guys like Cloud, Fonfara, and Bellew, whereas Williams just walks straight ahead, lets his hands go in a fairly basic manner, and is usually easier to hit.
And ya, if it's just about who beat who then Williams doesn't come close to Stevenson. Who is the best fighter Williams outboxed?

All forwards guys that do not or van't box off the back foot. If you look at his resume its not a lot of boxers on it.crusader wrote:Stevenson clearly has better boxing skills to me. Re: Adonis Stevenson vs Thomas Williams Jr.
And? Williams hasn't even shown that boxing ability against the limited guys he's fought.
Re: Adonis Stevenson vs Thomas Williams Jr.
I think Williams pulls this off. The fact that Stevenson is just a few months shy from his 39th Birthday, and hasn't fought a particularly dangerous opponent in the last few years has me thinking he won't be able to take Williams' firepower. Williams is very hittable, but he showed a lot of heart in his last fight and outwilled Rodriguez in a shootout. Now Rodriguez isn't on the level of Stevenson, but Stevenson has never looked unbeatable to me anyway, and at such an advanced age he's ripe for the taking especially when facing a hard punching opponent in his prime.
Whoever wins. This one will be fun. Both big punchers, both have holes in their defense...that's a recipe for a fun fight.

Re: Adonis Stevenson vs Thomas Williams Jr.
I don't expect this to be a case of Stevenson or Williams outboxing each other. I expect it'll be a shootout with both guys trading bombs, and a fight like that is there to be won for whoever lands the big bomb first.crusader wrote:And? When has Adonis been a shootout type fighter?

Stevenson will knock him clean out.gilgamesh wrote:I think Williams pulls this off. This. He's a counter puncher with power.crusader wrote:When has Adonis been a shootout type fighter?

Maybe so. It's a 50/50 fight in my mind though, and I gotta give the edge to the guy that's in his physical prime. I look forward to it.lefty wrote:Stevenson will knock him clean out.gilgamesh wrote:I think Williams pulls this off. A Stevenson victory wouldn't shock me at all, but I'll be picking Williams.

Its it because of his competition and there styles is my question in this fight. Stevenson power is difference between him and Williams not his boxing ability.lefty wrote:This. He's a counter puncher with power.crusader wrote:When has Adonis been a shootout type fighter?

Re: Adonis Stevenson vs Thomas Williams Jr.
He's shown he has better boxing ability aswell. His wins over Cloud and Fonfara showed an ability to box on the backfoot- williams hasn't shown that in a single fight.world ranked wrote:Its it because of his competition and there styles is my question in this fight. I agree with Williams point but outboxing the names you mentioned is not a big feat what when he fights a boxer with some talent which I think Williams brings to the table.lefty wrote:He's shown he has better boxing ability aswell. Re: Adonis Stevenson vs Thomas Williams Jr.
This seems like a somewhat easy, routine defense for Stevenson. But I think Williams will at least be Stevenson's best opponent since Bellew.
