I'm far from a boxing expert, but think you guys will be surprised how well Ward will do vs Kovalev. I see it as a close fight, but one Ward will win.

Ha-ha-ha. That Ward from the Smith and Barrera fights would be totally smashed by yesterday's Kovalev.

Besides, don't forget that Kovalev didn't have his normal preparation to that fight. He had a camp in Armenia, and I doubt that JDJ was with him there. Also, I doubt he had quality sparring partners and who knows if he could resist Armenian hospitality and not drink there. Also, he fought in the arena where his opponent collapsed and later died 5 years ago, and he was sharply criticized by the victim's family.

Kovalev will smash any version of Ward.

Anyone that judges Kovalev on last nights performance doesn't know what they are on about. He'll be levels above that performance against Ward.

I think you are right, I think he used this fight as a preparation for Ward fight almost like an athlete doing stretching exercise before an event. I don't think he even really wanted a KO against Chilemba .Don't him and Chilemba have same promoter?
I do wonder if being back in his country didn't act as some type of distraction for him along being in the same facility or near it where he had that tragic fight a few years ago.
I do think come Ward fight, Kovalev will be a lot more intense and focused. If not his title run will end.

One quote from Kovalev:
"There were obviously some moments during the training with regards to my health, because I got a cold and I didn't say anything, so the information wouldn't get to Chilemba and might work against me.

Nobody is going to walk Ward down, I see it being a close fight, unless Kovalev fights like he did the other night, in case he will lose hands down.

Strong LHWs like Kovalev and Beterbiev will walk Ward down, as he doesn't have power to keep them off. Ward's only ways to success is to turn the fight into a hug fest and hope that a ref allows that or headbutt Kovalev and cut him early.

We're going to find out soon - people are going to be in for a rude surprise. Ward is a much smarter fighter than Kovalev.

I don't think that's true at all. People love to make this binary that this fight is all about the brains of Ward vs the brawn of Kovalev, but Kovalev is a thinking fighter, especially with JDJ in his corner and he will be well aware of what Ward is bringing to the table in this fight. Hopkins probably just thought the guy would be one-dimensional and could pick him off, but he got a rude awakening when he found out Kovalev has some intelligent strategic moves in there, as well as first-rate skills, in addition to power.

Kovalev squares up way too much.
Ward can win by exploiting this one flaw.

BUT, it only took 2 body shots to completely scramble Chilemba and ruin all his positive momentum.

Good potential fight.
Should've been watching Kovalev/Stevenson, but HBO :brick:

Your obsession with HBO is beyond bizarre. Unless by HBO you meant Adonis wanting nothing to do with it.

Ward wins a clear points decision.

Kovalev is awful fighting inside.
