So will it be Skelton or Williams?

Danny needs to get his combinations off , if he just throws single shots then Skelton will be in the fight.
For me the Uppercut followed by a hook is Danny best punches for this fight, if he can land one early then Skelton will try and exchange, Danny's better quality and harder punches will knock Skelton out.

When did Williams last throw combinations? The Tyson fight once Tyson had blown his load. But since then its been plodding and wild single shots.

I really think Skelton is underrated, the main questions for me is if he can take a couple of really good shots, if he can then I don't see many heavyweights out there who can beat him... how many heavies today have Skeltons fitness and can keep up with his work rate??......
I really think you make too big a thing out of Skeltons workrate, if he was so fit his fights wouldn't be such a mess every time. So far he's been able to drive himself forward at opponents without being punished in return but it'll only work up to a certain level.

Most world class fighters would use the lumbering Skelton as a punchbag.

Toney is hardly Ken Norton conditioning wise... he's about 30 pounds overweight himself...

Skeltons chin hasn't really been tested yet but his workrate is important because sop many heavyerights today are knackered after 5 rounds. Had Skelton been in against Waldimir Klitchenko recently instead of Samuel Peters I think Skelton would have beaten him...
I can see Skelton beating Valuev if he gets past Williams....

Totally. Skelton comes forward and throws punches for 3 minutes of every round. Most heavyweights including Williams of late can only sustain about 10 seconds of action and they need a rest.

Yeah, and another thing that people often overlook is that although Skelton isn't a fancy dan, he knows how to use his size and strength to wear out the other guy...

I've a feeling that Skelton would beat Waldimir Klitschko , just by being able to punch him on the chin, the only time Peter connected he had Klitschko in trouble. Skelton wouldn't wait 4-5 rounds before testing Klitschko's chin.

I'd have to pick Valuev over Skelton, both fight ugly , but Valuev has better skills and his chin has not seemed suspect, I'd go for the big man Valuev to win on points, maybe a late stoppage.

But there's still nothing to say Skelton can take a shot and Wlad is one of the hardest hitters in the division, who's to say the crude Skelton will be able to punch Wlad on the chin? We know Wlad won't have a problem finding Skelton

I think people are getting way ahead on themselves in both overrating matt and righting of wlad

Skelton vs Valuev would be an interesting fight, I think it would depend upon whether Skelton can get onto the inside and nulifiy the big guys jab. Valuev is known as a slow starter so if Skelton started fast like he usually does he could stop Valuev getting his jab going and dictate the fight imo.

But theres nothing to indicate that Skelton is chinny either... with his come forward style he would have been found out pretty early on if he had a real problem with the chin. He did take some hefty whacks from Mirovic, who can punch and had Danny in trouble in their fight, and he just shook them off... My feeling is that Skelton has a decent chin... someone with doubts about their chin wouldn't adopt the style that Skelton has. The fight this weekend should answer some questions...

Nick mate come on, is that really quality work you get from Skelton? Once the first few seconds of a round are passed we see slow, pushing punches with not much accuracy. He gets just as knackered as anyone else it's just he's been the stronger man in all his fights so far.

Watch how quickly his whirlwind turns into a fart when faced with a world class opponent. Not saying a fit Danny Williams is going to have an easy night like those at top level would, but he'd really show up the limitations of this careless, ageing brawler.

Dunno Danny was thought to lose against Audley so I'll go with the 50/50 which sounds about right.

Rooting for Danny though.

I don't think it is in all honesty

That is not to say that it is not effective. It is, at a level. I still think that DW will come in in poor condition as he is almost pathalogically predisposed to do and Skelton will win. That, however does not make Skelton a 'pugilist, Specialist"

Well I'd rather watch Skelton fight than a lot of the other heavyweights about... a lot of people were hyping up Samuel Peters but I think Skelton is a far better fighter. Skelton is hardly doing badly for a guy with no Amutuer experience and of an advanced age... as for him not being a pugilist, who is the true pugilist out of Skelton and Audely??.... the only fighter there is Skelton... you don't need a fancy jab to be a pugilist...

I agree, Skelton is certainly a better "fighter" and he uses his limited skills to very good effect. He also seems to be a decent guy.

I do just think that he is very limited and a Skelton/ Valuev fight has to be amongst the worst scenarios for a world title in HW history

I like Danny too, but his last fights, he has been in shocking condition with or without Jim Mc working with him and I can't see him being any better this time

But,I suspect it will be a better fight than Audley/Williams and that will be because Skelton rarely takes a step back

You seriously think Skelton is a better fighter than Samuel Peter? It would be competitive for about 1 round. I can't believe the praise Skelton gets on here. He's an old, crude, limited British heavyweight who is going nowhere outside of domestic class.

Peters is a lazy heavyweight, about 20 pounds overweight, with a good punch, thats all, ...I wouldn't even say that his punch is that impressive. As I said here earlier if it had been Skelton rather than Peters fighting W. Klitchenko recently, Skelton would have won on a ko... he certainly wouldn't have been knackered by the 3rd round like Peters was.

And why knock the guy cause of his age?... he's one of the fittest Heavies out there and the fact that he hasn't had loads of fights means he's fairly fresh physically. Obviously if Skelton wins on Saturday you're just going to say that Williams was out of condition or shot!.... or maybe Matts too old for him! :TU:
