North West Small Hall Scene Thread
North West Small Hall Scene Thread
Seen these listed on BoxRec schedule but not seen them confirmed anywhere. That said, I've not looked too hard. Are they actually happening?
August 12th
TBA having another busy night against Jack Catterall and Jimmy Kelly plus other MGM prospects at the Village Hotel in Ashton?
September 2nd
Kieran Farrell's second promotion at Bowlers?
September 10th
Liam Walsh vs Andrey Klimov. Frank's promotion, but venue just listed as "Manchester"
Not exactly clamming for tickets, but I'd pop along if I'm not busy.
(**This Thread was regarding Manchester, but can now be used for all North West/Central Area shows. Come join the party)

Re: Upcoming Fights in Manchester?
Nice one for this mate, we should try and keep it alive if people are interested, I try to get to as many shows as I can in Manchester!
Re: Upcoming Fights in Manchester?
Good idea this for people in and around that area.
be good to have like a small hall/local scene thread for each area in my opinion. That people could just keep going back to.
whats everyone think?

Same here, when time and money allows I'll go to any in Manchester. As said, I'll go to all these if I'm not too busy. Just wondered if there was any official word.DannyMCR wrote:Nice one for this mate, we should try and keep it alive if people are interested, I try to get to as many shows as I can in Manchester!
Had a look on MGM Manchester, Jack Catterall and Johnney Roye's Twitter's regarding the one in Ashton and none mention it.
Frank posting nothing about this Liam Walsh fight (and in fairness he's got other shit to focus on at the minute) but not even a passing mention.

Re: Upcoming Fights in Manchester?
If there was a Manchester or North West sub-section I'd probably spend more time there than anywhere else on the forums.ste1983 wrote:Good idea this for people in and around that area.

Re: Upcoming Fights in Manchester?
Yeah I'd be the same with a Midlands one myself, might start a thread later.Stuffs wrote:If there was a Manchester or North West sub-section I'd probably spend more time there than anywhere else on the forums.ste1983 wrote:Good idea this for people in and around that area.

Re: Upcoming Fights in Manchester?
Probably makes most sense to have them in category of areas like the BBBofC, so Northern, Central, Southern, Midlands etc.

Re: Upcoming Fights in Manchester?
Forgot about Walsh v Klimov. Decent test for Walsh. Big statement if he manages to force the stoppage. Hopefully he can put in a good solid performance and then move on to a world title shot. Very underrated fighter IMO.
Re: Upcoming Fights in Manchester?
Not really sure where the Walsh fight takes place if it is in Manchester. Velodrome?
That said, the Arena is free that night. I suppose if the built the card with the likes of Flanagan, Zelfa and the usual cast of North West fighters there's a chance it's reasonably full.

Re: Upcoming Fights in Manchester?
Kieran posted in the Scheduling forum that that show has been booked and the names added.
2nd Sept @ Bowlers. Contact him or call in The People's Gym for tickets.

Re: Upcoming Fights in Manchester?
Flanagan was supposed to be back out that night, with Fury-Klitschko getting postponed I can see him fighting on that instead with Walsh getting moved down to London.Stuffs wrote:Not really sure where the Walsh fight takes place if it is in Manchester. Velodrome?

Re: Upcoming Fights in Manchester?
Quite possibly. Though they might want -- or rather need -- Flanagan for the Klitschko card on October 29th.expe wrote:Flanagan was supposed to be back out that night, with Fury-Klitschko getting postponed I can see him fighting on that instead with Walsh getting moved down to London.Stuffs wrote:Not really sure where the Walsh fight takes place if it is in Manchester. Re: Upcoming Fights in Manchester?
It is a good idea, however if a bunch of boxing fans have to resort to this in order to find out when shows are on then the chances of a casual fan finding out and buying a ticket must be zero.ste1983 wrote:Good idea this for people in and around that area.
What do the promoters do in order to tell people about the shows (you know, in order to actually "promote") ?
The way in which most promoters have used social media is almost a case study in what not to do.
They also only appear interested in selling tickets to their home fighters family and friends - 10 home fighters per show selling 50 tickets each to their mates = 500 punters go home happy when their mate wins.
Do that a few times until the mates get fed up with paying £40 to watch their mate win a 40-36 points decision against a 2-50 type journeyman and stop buying tickets, only for another amateur to be signed up on the same basis to replace him and to repeat the process.
Sorry for the rant ....
Re: Upcoming Fights in Manchester?
For small hall show advertising, aside from social media and buying tickets off mates who are fighting, I've seen all the following...
- Posters
- Articles in local papers
- Listed in places like Boxing News
- PPC Adverts
- Flyering at other shows, small and large.
Obviously social media is king, but the above happen.
I asked about these as they were listed on BoxRec, but hadn't seen a sniff about them even online. So wasn't sure if they were just rumours.
I see news of Walsh v Klimov has spread today despite no official announcement (last time I looked).
Often tickets aren't as high as £40 round here. Last week, Farrell's first show. A few away wins, decent-ish set up, £20 tickets.
