Why The Heavyweight Division Sucks
Because we don't have any monumental figures anymore like Joe Louis, Ali, Prime Foreman, or Prime Tyson fighters of this caliber that makes
the rest of the division train their asses off reaching for greatness! Either that or get swallowed whole by an anaconda. I'm talking GREATNESS
talent that puts fear into all of the other heavyweights today. We have good fighters but no GREAT GREAT heavyweight. A fighter with super
talent that keeps the rest of the division off their toes. Wilder, Joshua, Haye, Fury, these guys are good but nothing GREAT! Even a young

Re: Why The Heavyweight Division Sucks
I agree we don't have a monumental figure, although I think Fury is better than Ibeabuchi and Joshua and Ortiz probably are too.
Re: Why The Heavyweight Division Sucks
They're all better than Ibeabuchi... I was a big Ibeabuchi fan and predicted he'd murder Chris Byrd within 5 rounds... Ibeabuchi would have made short work of Jimmy Young and Muhammad Ali too...because Ike wasn't a clumsy oaf like David Tua or George Foreman... Ike had blazing fast hands and good feet
But today you have Anthony Joshua... There is nothing Ibeabuchi could do that Joshua can't do... There are a few thing AJ can do that Ike never could dream of doing... One is crack a long range jab straight in your face with the precision of Larry Holmes... One is nail you with a right hand counter shot with the expertise of a prime Max Schmeling... One is defend the incoming like Gene Tunney... Below are a few more reasons why the Heavyweight division today is the greatest division in Boxing History right now.
THE TOP 31 HEAVYWEIGHTS TODAY...
1. Tyson Fury... 2. Anthony Joshua... 3. Luis Ortiz... 4. Deontay Wilder... 5. Wladimir Klitschko... 6. Alexander Povetkin... 7. David Haye... 8. Andy Ruiz... 9. Joseph Parker... 10. Charles Martin... 11. Bryant Jennings... 12. Erkan Teper... 13. Hughie Fury... 14. Kubrat Pulev... 15. Johann Duhaupas... 16. Ruslan Chagaev... 17. Bermane Stiverne... 18. Lucas Browne... 19. Malik Scott... 20. Carlos Takam... 21. Mike Perez... 22. Alexander Ustinov... 23. Dereck Chisora... 24. Christian Hammer... 25. Robert Helenius... 26. Steve Cunningham... 27. Artur Szpilka... 28. Otto Wallin... 29. Czar Glazkov... 30. Dominic Breazeale... 31. Amir Mansour
And below are some of the TERRIBLE Heavyweight Title Challengers from the 1950’s, 60’s and 70’s... They would never fly to get Heavyweight Title shots at Anthony Joshua. They were so bad they wouldn't make 4-round fighters today.
Don Cockell... Roland LaStarza... Tommy Jackson... Tom McNeely... Pete Rademacher... Roy Harris... Brian London... Henry Cooper... Karl Mildenbugger... Alfredo Evangelista... Chuck Wepner... Jean Pierre Coopman... Leon Stinks... Terry Daniels... Dave Zyglewitz... Manuel Ramos... Ron Stander... Richard Dunn...
I can’t even believe some of those fart-bags got title shots…

An interesting thing about the above video... Ike Ibeabuchi not only knocked Chris Byrd out... He landed more punches than Chris... He had potential

Re: Why The Heavyweight Division Sucks
The chin??? ... Neither were ever knocked down, badly rocked, or ever hurt... Whyte caught Joshua with a savage left hook and jarred him.. AJ didn't run... didn't grab... didn't wobble... didn't lose his composure... didn't flag... He came right back in the same round land landed good shots... Good point!!!!

Re: Why The Heavyweight Division Sucks
Interesting point. Don't the Klitschko's pretty much disprove this thread's premise? They were good, very good, but it isn't a great era because for so long they were so ahead of the rest, and also didn't fight each other. Competition is the key, the fact that there's so much disagreement about how's the best between Wilder, Fury and Joshua means if between them they had a few fights it'd make for a very exciting time.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:It sucks less every day Wlad gets closer to retirement.
Re: Why The Heavyweight Division Sucks
I'm talking a heavyweight so talented it causes the rest of the division to train their butts off! Like Ali had the feared Liston so Ali had to come
with it or get swallowed up! How Foreman inspired Ali to be great in their fight or Ali was going to get completely RUN OVER. How Prime Tyson
had Tucker, Tillman, Cooper, Thomas, Smith. Bruno, Spinks, all of these guys on their toes! They tried against Tyson they really did but it wasn't
enough but they came in great shape and gave it their all! Their is no current nightmarish heavyweight fighter.....one that strikes total FEAR.
When its like that where is the motivation? Imagine Errol Spence a solid 225lber these guys will retire early or bring their A Game. That or get
PUMMELED!

Re: Why The Heavyweight Division Sucks
You clearly have no idea what you're talking about. The heavyweight division today is stronger than it has been in a while, but it's nothing compared to how good it was in the 90s, 80s and particularly the 70s. Today's guys are bigger and heavier, but generally have higher body fat and worse stamina. Add to that the fact that the top guys don't fight as often, or fight each other as often. Look at some of the guys who held titles and got title shots in recent years - many of them wouldn't have been contenders in the 70s.Kalan wrote:They're all better than Ibeabuchi... Re: Why The Heavyweight Division Sucks
Quite the contrary for me. It's the lame way wlad dealt with his competitors and more importantly the lack of fights between 'contenders'. Just the worst era ever.BitPlayer wrote:Interesting point. Re: Why The Heavyweight Division Sucks
I'd say the HW division has had a bit of a renaissance. A decent crop of good young fighters who can compete with each other over the coming few years.

Ortiz and Joshua strike more fear than I've ever seen anyone else do before them... Bryant Jennings was shtting his pants at the faceoff -- So was Charles Martinbnovelist wrote:no current nightmarish heavyweight fighter.....one that strikes total FEAR
You usually don't see that in men who are solid 6'3" X 226 to 6'5" X 245...
Re: Why The Heavyweight Division Sucks
wilder Vs Arreola is why. just hope that Arreola is not hit too many times before he goes down

Yup, when Breazeale is at least his second best opponent, it's not surprising.Kalan wrote:Just the best punch ever landed on AJ... Re: Why The Heavyweight Division Sucks
I had the feeling they were pretty much friends splitting money.Grant wrote:wilder Vs Arreola is why. just hope that Arreola is not hit too many times before he goes down
Wilder was injured, so then you would think Arreola has a chance to win the fight, and does everything for that, next to that Arreola even stated that he never gave up before he had no choice left! Then all of a sudden someone from his team pretty much said: Oh, is Wilder injured? Oké, we stop the fight and give Wilder the another KO victory against a bum.
To me that seems like absolute bullshit, time over time again Wilder disappoints everyone and time over time the American media only put him up higher in the sky. It's a joke, everybody who ever owned the WBC belt feels embarrassed. And all of that against a rank 40, or 50 ish boxer, a recordbreaking lowest ranked title defence boxer in the history of the sport as far as I know of. Even some guys fighting on the undercard were ranked higher lol.

Re: Why The Heavyweight Division Sucks
The division only sucks because fights are being cancelled and/or nor signed in the first place.
It does suck now.
But when and if Wlad, Fury, Wilder, Parker, Povetkin, Pulev and Joshua fight each other it will be opposite of "suck."
