Nigel Benn was my favourite fighter if that era. He was explosive, unpredictable, had a big heart, and was a geezer and party guy. I used to see him in clubs in London a lot. He pulled it back eventually, and I would like to see him on TV more as a colour commentator type.

Being there live....for me it was Groves beating Degale.

The whole build up was immense and having worked above the dale youth gym I followed both as amateurs and then into the paid ranks.

Not many gave Groves a chance and to see the adulation at the end with Booth giving the *anker sign to McDonnell made it extra special.

Hatton-Kostya was the best atmosphere, the whole city seemed up for it that night. Froch-Groves 1 was a good one, too, how it unfolded etc, pure shock in the arena when Groves put it on him for six rounds.

Totally agree. just turned 17 at the time. Watched it in the market tavern when Carl crook was landlord. Never since experienced such an electric atmosphere I'm a pub. Doubt I will again now tbh. It was epic!! :-D

Was in a pub myself, everyone was stood on the tables. And when the end came it was like a mass euphoria, was buzzing for days

He makes I think an interesting point, that the support for Benn that night- and the US team pick up on it, the atmosphere was explosively patriotic- was a massive sign of the progress in race relations in this country. In the arena, a load of coked-up Essex and london boys going mental for a black geezer, and the fact that Benn was indeed a geezer was a big part of that support. I don't think hr says so but I wouldn't be surprised if some of those boys' dads were chucking bottles at hagler 15 years before.

I was there! limo to manc form London, pink champagne called Haton (one t only but tried my best) scream like lunatics til 4 am, then back in limo lots of naughtiness, bed back in London 1 am next day.

I was not at the Fury fight. Just the general impression I got though. I expect it was different if you were there.
That said I think Bruno was better known than Fury. Everyone knew of Frank Bruno, even non boxing fans

That was probably my best night's boxing ever, I remember literally leaping around on my mate's furniture, spilling my drink everywhere, I was so flabberghasted I thought I was going to have a heart attack, when Holy began drilling Mike, my heart was literally in my mouth.

Ah it's fights we saw live, for thrills, Thompson v Rothmann was pretty up there, real drama, but for me the most amazing was Marquez v Pacquaio I - first time to Vegas, and got a press pass to cover the fight, sat with all the proper journos. What a 1st round that was, Marquez barely made it to his feet after the 3rd knockdown, hauling himself up by the ropes, but came out 2nd round taking it to Pacquiao, what a tough nut!
