Roy Jones Jnr planning on FIVE more fights

Sadly that's what Roy Jones has in mind.

Roy's left bicep is way bigger than his right one. Looks weird. I personally don't care if Roy gets knocked out again or not. He needs to get knocked out by a guy with a losing record I guess before he calls it quit.

Surely another KO loss would deliver the message to Roy. But then again :maybe:

The stupid thing about it all to me is the guy still has a gig on HBO as a commentator. Why risk f*cking up a steady paycheck because you're getting your brains scrambled in fights where he can't possibly be making much money. Hell he probably gets just as much for his commentary gigs as he does for his fights these days.

Geez has he got 5 more fights in him? And if so what if he wins all 5, will that truly be it? He might change his mind again.

the saddest thing in all of current boxing.
he was so utterly brilliant in his day and
didn't find a way out.

i don't blame him, it is his life and his
health. the "good" thing about the knock
outs he suffers is that he has so little left
that they come sudden and not as a result
of a half hour beating.

i just hope he can keep his faculties in tact.

Exactly...why not just continue to spar if you love it, u get hit in the head but being knocked out would be less likely. He's addicted to the attention. Repeated concussions is the key to brain damage. He had kids and a lucrative job it seems. Train people, commentate and spar.

Maybe Roy Jones Jr. has to fight real fights to keep his job at HBO. Example...George Foreman, Sugar Ray Leonard.

This is the thing, repeated concussions lead to dementia, mood changes and many other neurological problems.

People say 'at least he's not taking a beating' but getting heavily knocked out, is likely to have serious repercussions in later years.

Sadly he's like many of the greats, just cannot live without the attention, even the kind of attention he gets now, which is for people waiting to see how quick he gets knocked out again.

Why doesn't he throw his energies into being the best commentator he can, I know it's not the same thrill, but it's something else to try and excel at at least.

Surely not? What Roy is doing isn't enhancing his reputation for TV. It is damaging it and probably him in the process.

I dare say that boxers probably as a group have a tendency towards addictive behaviours, bit of a sweeping statement I know, but just a gut call.

Berbick, Dokes, McCall, Pryor, Chavez Sr (apparently a terrible alcoholic), Duran, the list goes on and on.

I don't think it's boxing in particular, I think it's sportsmen in general, anyone who is able to become obsessive to that degree over a single thing, is going to be quite odd, some call it drive, but if you think about, it's bloody weird to devote every waking hour to the pursuit of excellence in one single thing.

Me, I just do everything badly.

Most of us fighters like to live on the edge in some sort of way it gives us a rush,I love to gamble but know if I go in a casino I will lose everything I have. So there for I try to stay out of them I know if I drink I become a obnoxious violent person so that's why I haven't had a drink of alcohol in years. So I continue to fight to get my rush out of the way and actually get paid for it instead of paying for it just me I am sure there are many other fighters that do stuff for other reasons but they would have to say, with all that being said I would still love to fight Roy.

I'm a pretty decent middle distance runner, and I train hard. The thing is, I know deep-down that it isn't good for me. Even these last couple of days I've had a minor health issue related to my training I've had to deal with. Yet, I'm not exactly close to top-level and so I think about these people right at the top. The injuries, the illnesses, and all the stuff they deal with. Sure, maybe they have a bit more latent than someone like me, but they've also got to be willing to sacrifice from an early age.

Forget about comforts, forget about the pub, forget about general health and wellbeing... just be the best. No matter what.

Yes, I'm sure this is commonplace in boxing and other sports, although given the extreme immediate danger of boxing, I'd guess more so. It attracts thrill seekers, people with compulsive personalities and high testosterone levels.

Is it any wonder so many fighters struggle after they retire, what do you do to keep a lid on things the way boxing did, the discipline and training required for boxing means that there's not much time left for getting into strife, if its being taken seriously.

I've heard a few fighters say they'd like to fight Roy, but what for, it would be like beating Usain Bolt in a race when he was 70 - pretty meaningless, he's just a name now, nothing else.

Its sad but i can imagine what hes going throught. I never accomplished anything of note as an amateur and at 38 I cant avoid finding myself at the gym whenever I can pile up a short streak of training days. I mean im old, fat and was never that good to begin with but when i start training I keep wishing I had time for a full camp to see how things would go.

If I was an all times great and saw a guy like Shumenov holding a belt id go crazy thinking I could box the heck out of the guy... Cant see how he walks away if he keeps getting fights. Its like what happened to Holyfield.

Surely Roy knows that he isn't as good as he used to be?

How can a man as technically knowledgable as Roy not know thst his best days are behind him?

The best we can hope for is that he picks 5 very easy bums & KOs them early.

I'm pretty sure the last Roy fight I watched was lacy. I say this with shame, I'd watch a Johnson rematch.

Well with that being said I would love to beat Usain Bolt at any age Roy and Usain are both legends in what they have done for the sport and it is past Roy prime by many years but he can still fight and beat a lot of fighters

It's the same as any great fighter. The difference in the gym is so minimal that they think they had an off night. Galen is right, Roy is still at least top 50. He's been working since he was a kid. That's all he knows.
