Classic fights I've watched recently

Alan Rudkin vs Ronnie Jones

Jorge Fernando Castro vs John David Jackson 1+2

Both fun fights,especially the 1st fight which has one one of the most dramatic turnarounds ever seen in a ring,Jackson in total control hurting Castro throughout,in the 11th Jackson has Castro reeling against the ropes when he goes for the kill and Castro tags him sending him flat on his back,Jackson gets up but Castro puts him down twice more before its stopped,never hook with a hooker,crazy fight and well worth a watch

The rematch was fun too with Castro's power being the deciding factor again although this time Jackson made it to the end although he was down twice en route,he boxed well at times though but more than once he was hurt in rounds he was winning,the canvas was the worst ive ever seen in my life,like an ice rink and Jackson must have slipped 10 times

Carlos Monzon vs Nino Benvenuti 1+2

Ive seen a bit of Monzon and he was the master boxer,done the basics so well.excellent jab,excellent left hook and an excellent right hand over the top,he pretty much dominated Benvenuti in the 1st fight with Nino only having fleeting moments of success and the right hand that KO'd Benvenuti was cracker,Nino actually caught Carlos with a decent left hook as Monzon KO'd him,ah la Golovkin/Geale

The rematch was strange,a bit of a controversial ending,Monzon putting Benvenuti down in the 2nd with a peach of left hook with a right hand to the near back of the head to help him on his way,it looked the back of the head but in the replay it probably was the side of the head,then in the 3rd Monzon scores another KD and Benvenuti's corner throw the towel in,Nino was up and raging even kicking the towel out of the ring himself but it was all over

Yeah it did seem the corner were stopping Benvenuti taking a beating and/or suffering another sickening KO,didnt Nino retire after that fight??

Oscar De La Hoya vs Ike Quartey

Excellent fight,shame on Quartey i thought he done enough to take it,i didnt score it but i think i would have had him winning,too many lulls in De La Hoya's work for me,whilst Ike piled up points with that jab,great 6th round when both men traded KD's and the assault from Oscar after scoring a KD in the final round was epic,although he did clearly punch himself out

Yes that was his last fight. He was past it vs Monzon but I don't think he would have beaten him in his prime anyway.

Thomas Hearns
vs Iran Barkley I
vs James "The Heat" Kinchen
vs Juan Domingo Roldan
vs Roberto Duran
vs Fred Hutchins

I appreciate Thomas "The Hitman" Hearns. What a fighter and what a warrior. Some of his fights here were when he was fading, especially the Kinchen fight. But, in his prime, especially at 154lbs, to me, he was better boxer than at welterweight. Much stronger, more experienced and hit harder. He looked like a light-heavyweight in that 154lbs body. Too devastating to be true at 154 and beyond.

I also saw the great Sugar Ray Leonard fights with Ayub Kalule and Kevin Howard. Two entertaining fights, also.

Michael Moorer vs Bert Cooper

Unbelievably fun fight,both men down in the opener,Moorer down in the 3rd then KO's Cooper in the 5th with as hard an uppercut your likely to see anywhere,both guys hit incredibly hard,Bert very nearly had Michael finished a couple of times,especially the KD in the 1st,Moorer was very unsteady,there was a slight delay after the refs count which just might have saved Moorer from being KO'd,still got to give him credit for riding they heavy KD's out and finishing off Cooper in style
