Helluva fight Guzman needs some work on his defense but boy can he crack.
Good win hopefully he can get some big fights in the states.

Wake may have suffered broken ribs and cheekbone:

Will be interesting to see where he goes from here.
Re: Shingo Wake vs. Jonathan Guzman
Do you guys think he would have fared better against Frampton?

I believe he would have. I also think he would have had a decent shot
against Scott Quigg when they were scheduled to fight in November 2014.

Re: Shingo Wake vs. Jonathan Guzman
Funny that Wake said he was never offered that fight, Hearn claimed he had injured his ankle or something and he was posting up training pictures from a training camp in Okayama...seemingly looking at an OPBF title defense in December...all a bit murky as to what happened...Cutman Scabbers wrote:lefty wrote:Do you guys think he would have fared better against Frampton?

Did Wake actually say he was never offered the Quigg fight?
I'd like to see your source on that one.
Don't blame Hearn for the twisted ankle excuse -- that came from
Wake's people (if not Wake himself), not from Hearn.
Hearn was actually looking forward to Quigg vs. Wake, and was
disappointed to hear that Wake had pulled out.

It came from Wake's own blog, saying the first he heard of it was on some fan blog and he wished Otake the best. A day before/after he posted the training picture of him running.
Re: Shingo Wake vs. Jonathan Guzman
I've never really thought much of Wake...I think Quigg would've beaten him pretty easily.

I had a look back at his October 27th, 2014 entry. What is says is that the fight was made, then cancelled, and that he would like to leave it to everyone's imagination as to why he couldn't fight.
I've heard various rumors. Sure would like to know the real reason!
Anyway, I don't see anything about his first having heard about it from "some fan blog..." ?

You may be right.
How do you think Quigg would fare against Guzman?

Swear one before that says that he became aware of the fight via a blog, my translations not great though. Certainly seems clear he didn't turn it down nor was he injured...ah

Could be my mistake, but do you know what date that blog entry is on?
I couldn't find it.
It's a bit of a mystery. I don't think he was injured, but that's the excuse his team
put forward, so it's no fault of Hearn's.

Guzman gets better with every fight. I thought he may have some issues with gassing himself out early, but he seemed to pace himself well. Technically this was the best he has ever looked even if you want to criticize his defense. He's like the anti-Rigondeaux, always looking for offense first.

Would love to see him fight Rigondeaux!
