Boxing needs a Sid Waddle type commentator, there must be someone who could do it?

He could read a fight well in my opinion although was completely biased towards British fighters and often picked a side early on and stick to it.
However, he have HIS opinion and not Sky's like the rest of the slimeballs do. If he thought a fight was a mismatch he would not dress it up as a 50/50- who else would refuse to toe the party line on that show??

Time to retire though- looking at that bingo card we have heard everything he had to offer repeatedly over the years and it's probably time for someone new and young. But they have a hard act to follow in terms of analysis, knowledge and drama and even passion.

He's had his critics, but I've always found Watt to be a much better commentator than John Rawling, who is repetitive, monotone, boring and biased. And Watt is better than the effeminate Barry Jones.

Im pretty gutted to be honest,i like Jim and think he's the best commentator on Sky and an even better pundit which we didnt see him do much recently,i dont always agree with him but then again i dont always agree with anyone,he's been doing the job all my life.he'll be missed,i wish him nothing but the best in retirement,god knows he deserves it

He used to be excellent, he's still decent enough but I think he's doing the right thing retiring now.

Will be interesting to see who Sky replace him with. Barry Jones is by far the best in the business right now (in the UK at least).

Very happy should of happened a long time ago,not knocking him as a man or as a boxer but his commentating was from a different planet sometimes. Good luck for the future though jim

Jim Watt was a good commentator, straight talking, right to the point, and knowledgeable about the game. He was fallable like everyone else, but i dont get the strong criticism of many on here.

A great fighter and commentator, he did the sport proud. I wish him a happy retirement.

Seems a decent bloke who loves boxing, even after all these years.

Can't say I enjoyed his commentary much (because I didn't) but, I hope he has a happy retirement.

I'm sure boxing will still play a part for him.

I am gutted at the news, as he is not only part of my childhood and definitely played a huge role in me being a massive boxing fan, but for me he is still head and shoulders above everyone in reading the fight and the psychology of the fighters. People say he has gone down hill recently, I disagree and I think a lot of the apparent "decline" is due to the co-commentator - Reg Gutteridge was the maestro. His "banter" gave Watt the opportunity to sound even more insightful. I think Hawling, Rawling and Darke all try also to be "experts" and thus making the co-commentator a bit more redundant.

This seems a rather sudden decision, as he's not done a Barry Davies and phased down the number of fights he's covered only a few weeks ago he was doing the PPV. I just wish all is well and I hope it is not the last we hear of Jim as a boxing analyst. I wish him all the best, sad day for boxing on TV though.

Me and my mate would have an over/under bet on how many times he'd say "CRUUUUDE" during a fight

I'll miss him. Sure he had his foibles but don't they all. When someone's been part of our big fight nights viewing as long as Jim has it's always sad to see them go.
