Gets some kind of IBF eliminator shot against Chinese fighter IK Yang on the undercard of Crawford v Postol at the MGM Grand on July 23rd.

Seeing as Lenny is ranked 6th & Yang 9th I'm not sure whether the winner gets a shot at Eduard Troyanovsky any time soon.

Should be a good bout though. Both fighters like to go for the KO.

Obara is next for Troya, likely this summer, Yang vs Zappa winner will likely move on to a final elimination, and get a top 3 ranking

Lenny Zappa appears to have really fallen on his feet here with the withdrawal of Gilberto Ramirez from the card. Ramirez has injured a hand in training and it will require surgery.

Bob Arum is faced with having to upgrade another bout onto the pay-per-view card, and the junior welterweight title eliminator between Zappa and China's IK Yang looks like being that bout - meaning world wide telecast for Zappa on July 23rd.

Great stuff can't see this going the distance. Hopefully Lenny's the one standing at the end.

Big win for him. This could lead to a title shot or at least a title Eliminator. The 140 pound weight class is wide open right now, and I expect Crawford probably won't be at 140 much longer either.

Big win and a very decisive one from reports so far.

How did he look LaB?

Ive not seen Zappa fight in years now.... was wondering if he'd ironed out a couple of things in his technique since back then....

That's really great to hear!!

Ive always liked Zappa, but in his early days i recall him looking for the big shot too often.

Looking forward to seeing this fight now!

The commentators tried to make it seem like Yang was in it,
but I had Zappa winning every round (though Yang did land
some punches).

Seemed like Yang underestimated Zappa, while Zappa and his
team took him very seriously and came in there with a solid
game plan. I could watch this fight over and over because
it was essentially the jab -- the foundation of boxing --
that Zappa used to break Yang down and open him up
for everything else. Zappa was very controlled. You could
see his boxing experience -- that amateur background, which
Yang doesn't have -- come into play. Fantastic performance!

From Asian Boxing News:

"The other Asian was former world title challenger Ik Yang (19-2-0-1, 14) [杨连慧] who looked genuinely dreadful before being stopped in the 6th round by Australian Leonardo Zappavigna (35-2, 25), who adds Yang's name to that of Ji Hoon Kim and Shuhei Tsucihya in terms of solid Asian fighters who he has stopped.

Yang had coming in looking like his usual unorthodox self but was picked off by a busier, more accurate Zappavigna who wobbled him early before turning up the heat in round 6, forcing the referee to save the "Wildman", who probably needs to consider either hiring a better trainer, or leaving the sport with a few brain cells intact. This performance from Yang was simply dreadful."

"I will take any world champion at 140 to be honest but if if I can get Troyanovsky with the IBF, or the WBA is another great fight with Ricky Burns, whatever we can get. I am training in America out of Wildcard now. I have a good team behind me and 37 fights so it's time to step up and get some real fights" - Lenny Zappa
