Bernard Hopkins eyeing a return in 2016 in possible farewell bout
http://ringtv.craveonline.com/news/4297 ... ewell-bout
Bernard Hopkins recently met with Golden Boy about fighting this year in a possible farewell bout.
The talks were preliminary and nothing has been formally set up. But Golden Boy claim Hopkins wants to fight toward the end of 2016.
“He actually met with us a couple months back,” Eric Gomez (Golden Boy) said. “He told me and Oscar, ‘Look, I’m in training. I’m in the gym every day. If the right situation comes up, let me know. I’m interested.’ And we’ve had a couple of phone calls after that.”

Hopefully he's reasonably matched so he can go out with a win. He doesn't need to take on any crazy challenges at this point. He's went above and beyond as far as proving his greatness, Give him someone in the Top 50 or 40 maybe and let the old man school one more schmuck on his way to retirement and the Hall of Fame.

I'm sure I remember him saying the same thing last year, aiming for a June date, not 100% sure though. Hopefully he gets a nice easy fight to bow out on but no doubt he'll challenge himself once again. His longevity is beyond amazing!

Would be a fitting way to go out.gilgamesh wrote:Hopefully he's reasonably matched so he can go out with a win. He doesn't need to take on any crazy challenges at this point. No top level fighter will take on Hopkins to not get a blame of beating up a 50+ year old who was out of the ring for two years.
Re: Bernard Hopkins eyeing a return in 2016 in possible farewell bout
Who would be a realistic opponent for him?
Re: Bernard Hopkins eyeing a return in 2016 in possible farewell bout
Winner of Kovelv vs Ward...or vs that other dude that has the lineal title

to go down easy. there is so much cheating
going on anyways, why not do it for a good
cause this time.
bernard deserves a nice and smooth ride
into the hall, though i am afraid he is too
proud to make it real easy.
Re: Bernard Hopkins eyeing a return in 2016 in possible farewell bout
Maybe an easy payday...RJJ vs Hopkins III
Re: Bernard Hopkins eyeing a return in 2016 in possible farewell bout
I hope Oscar never finds the "right fight" for him and we never see Hopkins in the ring again.
If he has a "farewell fight" and wins he will convince himself he still has it and want to keep fighting.
Hopkins was never going to go out on a win, if he wins he wants another fight.

I agree with this. Id say the only reason we saw this last part of Hopkins' career is because of that first Pascal fight. The thing is i feel so blessed to have watched that fight as it happened that I think it would be great to have a fight promoted as his last fight.Perseus wrote:I hope Oscar never finds the "right fight" for him and we never see Hopkins in the ring again.

Something about the way he fought Kovalev tells me he wants to go out on his shield against a worthy opponent tho...

That was the only name that came to mind, he fits most of the criteria Hopkins needs to make a fightSaadOffTheDeck wrote:AbrahamSFW wrote:Who would be a realistic opponent for him?

By the way, why is there no decision on Sturm? If he is not DQed, then Sturm vs Abraham would be huge. If he is DQed, then Abraham and Hopkins may want to fight Chudinov for a title instead of fighting each other.SFW wrote:That was the only name that came to mind, he fits most of the criteria Hopkins needs to make a fightSaadOffTheDeck wrote:AbrahamSFW wrote:Who would be a realistic opponent for him?

Why? For a payday but there is the possibility Ward wins after all Krusher/SOG is a 50/50 fight. And Ward vs Hopkins will line up the pockets of the parties involved.boxing_rocks wrote:Why would Kovalev fight Hopkins again?rivado wrote:Winner of Kovelv vs Ward...or vs that other dude that has the lineal title

Was wondering how long it would take for someone to come out with it.rivado wrote:Maybe an easy payday...RJJ vs Hopkins III

If Abraham was interested in fighting Hopkins it would have happened last year.
