You completely neglect the fact that Lesnar is a world class wrestler, who has been wrestling for approximately 20 odd years and is 20 plus stone. Wrestling and grappling are one of the fundamentals of an elite MMA fighter.BrackaBarclay wrote:.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Define 'very good' - some of the MMA guys have been doing BJJ for 20 years or more, the thing about MMA, is that there's always a style that beats someone as there are so many possible moves. I do believe that a top boxer with 1-3 years jujitsu would be extremely dangerous.
Apparently, for example, David Haye and Enzo Maccarinelli are very good ju jitsu fighters and if that's true, I believe they would roll through the mma guys.
Of course you take a clueless boxer and dump him in an MMA fight he will lose as soon as he misses the first shot....
At the moment there is not enough money to tempt a top boxer in his prime to mma.
Mayweather and McGregor will never fight. It's all publicity. Mayweather would stop macregor in a round or two on a boxing fight... But Connor would stop Floyd in a coulple of minutes under MMA rules
Look at Michael Bisping and Frankie Edgar, both huge upsets against seemingly dominant champs, nobody saw those results coming. Look at the merry go round in the Women's bantamweight class.
A boxer would of course be a very good striker, but they wouldn't be able to fight out of the same stance, or they would get their front leg smashed to pieces. Their power would therefore be somewhat reduced, and their balance would be off.
It would be interesting to see a recently retired elite fighter compete in MMA, but I think it is pretty unlikely.
No they haven't. 20 years? A very very few. Look at the success Lesnar had - he hadn't done any Jiu Jitsu or even boxing and won the title in 3 fights I think. Mma is very Complex and unpredictable.... And of course guys like Toney with no experience get dominated. But if it was Haye facing couture with his Jiu jitsu knowledge? I honestly think David Ko1. It's not about David being better at Jiu jitsu than couture; it's about him knowing what situations NOT to indulge in. And boxing whilst avoiding a takedown.
Haye hits any Mma fighter with a in and they're done.

I don't think Khan would fare too well as an MMA fighter, but I'd watch and see how it plays out for him. Surely there'd be more money for him in Boxing.

Precisely my point. Top class wrestlers tend to excel in mma.liamlion wrote:You completely neglect the fact that Lesnar is a world class wrestler, who has been wrestling for approximately 20 odd years and is 20 plus stone. McGregor was on the way to getting knocked out against Diaz before he took the easier route to defeat. Mayweather would stop him within a round in a boxing match. McGregor wouldn't land a punch. If he gave boxing a real go I'd be surprised if he come that close to winning the Irish title let alone being able to avoid being stopped by Floyd.thechump wrote:I dont think floyd would stop mcgregor at all tbh but mcgregor would definitley stop mayweather. Floyd would stop McG if he wanted to.

Dont think u know what your talkin about mate tbh, mayweather hasnt really knocked anyone out since hatton, forget ortiz cause he quit, and i cant think off the top of my head who he has knocked out in one round in his whole career so c'mon if ur not gonna talk sense dont bother talkin ok pal?lillywhite14 wrote:McGregor was on the way to getting knocked out against Diaz before he took the easier route to defeat. Assuming Conor doesn't go into a defensive shell straightaway and Floyd gets down to work from the first bell I'd say it'd be even money as to whether Floyd gets him out of there in the 1st. I think he'd land so many clean head shots that Conor would be in trouble pretty quickly.thechump wrote:Not in a round like the idiot poster before u sayscrusader wrote:Floyd would stop McG if he wanted to.
Re: Amir Khan on switching to MMA
Conor is a tough man and has been in the octagon gettin hit in the face with 4oz gloves for 5min rounds what evidence do u have to suggest he will cover up and be done in a round? Even in a boxing match i think conor would go a few rounds, conor is charlie zelenoff ya know,he is a professional mma fighter in the top organisation in his sport and is the 145lb champion too,it wouldnt b over in 1 round and the odds would never even as floyd hasnt knocked anyone out properly since hattonCaptainSpacerod wrote:Assuming Conor doesn't go into a defensive shell straightaway and Floyd gets down to work from the first bell I'd say it'd be even money as to whether Floyd gets him out of there in the 1st. Yes, it's hard to imagine Mayweather coming out and sparking him, Conor's taken some full blooded shots bang on the chin, and Mayweather, as fine a boxer as he is, has never been a one shot KO artist.
Re: Amir Khan on switching to MMA
Hopefully Khan does try this MMA out and takes a tanking. The guy is a fuckin helmet!
On the McGregor v Floyd business, I doubt Mayweather would spark McGregor with one shot because as it's been mentioned above he's a hardy guy but Mayweather would make him look silly and probably brutalise him over the course. It's a joke fight and not one I'm interested in seeing happen.

no, nor me, the only people who would benefit from it would be the participants, it would be a most unedifying spectacle.Stuarty30 wrote:Hopefully Khan does try this MMA out and takes a tanking. The guy is a fuckin helmet!

Re: Amir Khan on switching to MMA
mayweather would absolutely stop mcgregor in a boxing match. take into account the different variety of punches, angles and combinations connor would not have seen before. floyd could come forward and overwhelm him, or hang back and knock him cold with a counter punch the likes of which mcgregor will have never experienced before. mayweather would have nothing whatsoever to fear and could fight however the mood takes himjamesmcdonnell wrote:Yes, it's hard to imagine Mayweather coming out and sparking him, Conor's taken some full blooded shots bang on the chin, and Mayweather, as fine a boxer as he is, has never been a one shot KO artist.
i wouldn't give mcgregor any chance of actually beating any welterweight in the worldwide top 100, without a few years training and fighting exclusively as a pro boxer. right now, if he could last 12 rounds against one of the best boxers ever seen in mayweather, with zero pro experience, i would consider it the greatest performance in the history of boxing ( providing of course, floyd doesn't coast the entire fight ).

Always thought Gareth Gates should make the switch to MMA. It'd make it a damn sight easier for him to answer the question 'What do you do for a living?".

I'm not suggesting he'd last 12 necessarily, but the idea that Mayweather would come out and ice him in 1 round seems a little fanciful.mike john wrote:mayweather would absolutely stop mcgregor in a boxing match. take into account the different variety of punches, angles and combinations connor would not have seen before. floyd could come forward and overwhelm him, or hang back and knock him cold with a counter punch the likes of which mcgregor will have never experienced before. mayweather would have nothing whatsoever to fear and could fight however the mood takes himjamesmcdonnell wrote:Yes, it's hard to imagine Mayweather coming out and sparking him, Conor's taken some full blooded shots bang on the chin, and Mayweather, as fine a boxer as he is, has never been a one shot KO artist.

Enzo Mac has done BJJ for years amd considered move to UFC too.
For me the two sports are completley different. A top boxer beats a top MMA fighter in a boxing match, and a top MMA fighter beats a top boxer in the cage.

Re: Amir Khan on switching to MMA
Any boxer competiting in MMA, obviously will have a huge advantage in basic striking, but they need to have some ground game, otherwise they've no chance against top MMA fighters, you need to be able to stuff takedowns, and also to be able to recover and get to your feet if you get taken to the ground.
The one guy I think would do well, is Andre Ward, as he was a collegiate wrestler, and would probably be able to develop an excellent dirty boxing style clinching on the inside, given that's what he does in the boxing ring!

Khan likes dropping names like Mayweather, Pacquiao - this is nothing new.

I thought the title said he had switched to MDMA. That would explain half the stuff he comes out with...
