Veteran Kiwi boxing referee Bruce McTavish says protests following Joseph Parker's knockout victory over Solomon Haumono are no more than "the showbiz of boxing".

Joseph Parker knocked Solomon Haumono down with an upper-cut midway through the fourth round. However the result was disputed by Haumono's coach Justin Fortune, who alleged McTavish did not count to 10 before declaring the knockout.
McTavish, 76, was upset Fortune would impugn his professionalism.
"My reputation is something that's been earned and I respect the sport so there's no way I would've cheated."
He encouraged sceptics to listen back to tapes of the fight for confirmation he counted to 10.
Fortune claims McTavish's verdict was unfair as Haumono was stable on his feet after eight seconds and was clearly ready to fight on.
"The count wasn't clear, it wasn't loud, it wasn't precise," Fortune said.

Solomon Haumono’s appeal against Joseph Parker knockout is laughable according to Parker’s trainer Kevin Barry, and I have to say I agree with him.

Haumono bet the count but I'm betting Haumono was about to be finished off but I'll never truly know as Haumono...as doubtful as it...MIGHTVE recovered.
McTavish couldn't scare a mouse with his quiet voice and his counting rhythm was that of a jazz percussionist. At 76 years of age he really should retire. That fight ended like crap.

I just had a chance to see video of the fight on Youtube. Unless there was a glitch in the recording it certainly seems MacTavish was at ten when he should only have been at 8. Even the commentators were surprised at the count and thought Haumono was going to have his glove looked after. I started counting when Haumono hits the canvas and reached eight when MacTavish clearly says ten. Where was the official timekeeper?
