Who wins Miguel Cotto vs. Danny Garcia?
Who wins Miguel Cotto vs. Danny Garcia?
A passing of the torch of sorts and a set up for bigger fights for Garcia with a win...Garcia by a close decision.
Re: Who wins Miguel Cotto vs. Danny Garcia?
Cotto is in a different league to Garcia. He's also 2 weight classes higher.

yuh but sometimes fighters meet somewhere in the middle for potential million dollar paydays similar to Golovkin/BrookRicky_ wrote:Cotto is in a different league to Garcia. He's also 2 weight classes higher.

If they fight itll probably be near 154. Cotto looked pretty good against Canelo despite the loss. Judging by how Danny has looked against decent boxers i gotta say I like Cotto's chances on this one.

Re: Who wins Miguel Cotto vs. Danny Garcia?
Depends on weight. At 147, probably Danny.
Re: Who wins Miguel Cotto vs. Danny Garcia?
Cotto is to me a better boxer, I don't see Garcia doing enough to win that fight. But which weight it's at makes a difference. A prime Cotto beats him silly that'd be fun to watch.
Re: Who wins Miguel Cotto vs. Danny Garcia?
Cotto is definitely a better boxer, not sold it would be a easy fight for him at any stage of his career though. I think Garcia is a bit underrated, yeah he fights down to his competition, but he always shows up big in his big fights. I think 154 would be a good weight for them to meet at and think Cotto would take it by decision but it wouldn't be easy.
Re: Who wins Miguel Cotto vs. Danny Garcia?
Cotto has a very good jab... And a good to great jab is Garcia's Kryptonite, so Cotto wins that matchup... That's why Thurman, Brook, Spence, Porter, Crawford, Pacquiao, Floyd, and even Vargas have all expressed some interest in fighting Garcia.
Garcia would like rather meet Berto.

Re: Who wins Miguel Cotto vs. Danny Garcia?
Yeah it sounds like Garcia and Berto will be next. Berto still has speed, power and experience. It will be a blood bath for sure.
Re: Who wins Miguel Cotto vs. Danny Garcia?
Is this a fight that might actually happen or just a question of who would win out of curiosity?
Re: Who wins Miguel Cotto vs. Danny Garcia?
Just a what if but it can certainly happen, imo. Should happen really.sykessta wrote:Is this a fight that might actually happen or just a question of who would win out of curiosity?
Re: Who wins Miguel Cotto vs. Danny Garcia?
Yea, would be interestong. I like the idea of Garcia-pacquiao. Or even a g arcia-khan rematch. All I know is Garcia needs to step his level of competition up if he wants to be seen as a top dog in the sport.rivado wrote:Just a what if but it can certainly happen, imo. Re: Who wins Miguel Cotto vs. Danny Garcia?
Berto is washed up and should get beaten fairly handily. Don't let a come from behind win over totally shot Ortiz fool you.rivado wrote:Yeah it sounds like Garcia and Berto will be next. Berto still has speed, power and experience. It will be a blood bath for sure.
Danny's penchant for facing shopworn opponents seems to still be there. Funny thing is that people often still include names like Malignaggi and Guerrero when pointing out how strong his resume is (and it is strong), as if they still meant anything at the time he beat them; I bet that will happen with Berto too.

Cotto, easily. Don't shoot me down for this as its just my opinion but I don't even rate Garcia
Re: Who wins Miguel Cotto vs. Danny Garcia?
By no means did intend to paint Berto as something more than what he is but you have to admit that he is still a dangerous fighter for the inactive Garcia. If Garcia brings with him a fair amount of ring rust and is already a slow starter you can argue that Berto has what is needed to capitalize on it even jumping ahead on the scorecards leaving Garcia no choice but to bring on the attack to even the score. I see two game combatants at the end of the day.crusader wrote:Berto is washed up and should get beaten fairly handily. Re: Who wins Miguel Cotto vs. Danny Garcia?
I swear these guys get elevated to a status to they don't deserve after facing Floyd and losing. Nobody outside of hardcore boxing fans knew who the f... guerrero was until after he faced floyd and lost by a wide margin. Now he's a gatekeeper. A guy that up and comers like Spence would be a good match for, but not garcia who is supposed to be some established guy. And berto who was all but forgotten about even by hardcore fans until Floyd picked him for his honorary retirement party appearance and got shut out. And now even he as seen as a legit match up for supposed top guys like Garcia.crusader wrote:Berto is washed up and should get beaten fairly handily. Re: Who wins Miguel Cotto vs. Danny Garcia?
I think Berto and Guerrero are good solid fighters, veterans, established, names, what have you... I dont have issue with the Garcias, Broners, Bradleys, Thurmans, etc. facing them. All good names mixed in with the top dogs...makes for a deep division. Recognizable names. Works for me.
Re: Who wins Miguel Cotto vs. Danny Garcia?
Guerrero was beatdown about 10-2/11-1 by Thurman, had to go to war with Kamegai, and was knocked silly by light-hitting Martinez, only to scrape by with a SD. Since losing to Karass pretty much all Berto has done is beat faded Lopez and shot Ortiz (and he had to get off the canvas to do it), who had already been destroyed in two by Luis Collazo; in fact, I'd say him vs Collazo would be a pretty even match.
Berto and Guerrero (as well as Paulie) were good fighters, but are now shopworn and living off their names. They aren't close to being top WWs, and if Danny is matched with Andre next he will continue to stagnate despite Haymon's stable being loaded with talent at the weight. Why not Porter (destroyed Paulie) or Thurman (routed Guerrero) instead?

Re: Who wins Miguel Cotto vs. Danny Garcia?
Why is this even a topic? It is pretty far fetched, ffs. It is hard enough to get the guys in their own division to fight, much less two divisions apart. Cotto is a diva on the slide living his dream, which is one more good fight where he doesn't have to cut any weight, take any risk, and still make $5 mil.

Fight will never happen.
Weight difference too big and neither would gain from a catchweight.
Cotto can't do WW and Garcia too small for LMW.

Re: Who wins Miguel Cotto vs. Danny Garcia?
I thought that Al Haymon refuses to work with Roc Nation, coupled with the fact that it’s reasonable to lay claim that Danny Garcia isn’t a fully-fledged 147lb-er yet?rivado wrote:Who wins Miguel Cotto vs. Danny Garcia?

Why are casual fight fans actively encouraging middleweights to compete against smaller guys, yet giving them a free pass for refusing to face bigger men?

Re: Who wins Miguel Cotto vs. Danny Garcia?
Don't know if Cotto ever beat a fighter as good as Garcia is now.
I think this version of Garcia is better than the version of Mosely Cotto fought. Maybe not as strong though.
Cotto is currently an average fighter. Even in his prime, he was more promotion than substance. At 147 and below, there's Shane Mosely, and a bunch of guys Garcia would also have beaten.
But the name Cotto ...
