Adonis Stevenson vs Thomas Williams Jr

Post by handsofstone »

This friday on Spike but i cant see it on the schedule which i assume means we'll be treated to it a week later next saturday, ive no idea why they do that, surely they have the rights to show it live here as well?

Stevenson's 1st fight since the Karpency demolishing last year, who knows he might have got old overnight,he's getting on a bit,i somehow doubt it though

Williams Jr is unpredictable as hell.he's got power but loves a trip to the canvas, his fight with White a couple of years ago was crazy,he retired on his stool against Campillo which was strange at the time and has raised questions about his heart but he has got off the canvas to win more than once,he's coming off a 2 round KO win over Edwin Rodriguez which is good going although i never seen it myself

Both fighters vulnrable but powerful,Stevenson a lot better though and experienced and i reckon it wont take long for him to catch Williams Jr

Early KO win for Adonis

I think Williams Jr. can take this. Williams is definitely a fighter with his share of flaws, but Stevenson is a flawed fighter with a questionable chin in his own right, and he's almost 39 years old. He's ripe for the taking.

I can see either one of these guys getting knocked out, but I'm picking WIlliams.

Stevenson's age is weird,he must be the only fighter over 30 whose age hardly ever gets mentioned by fans,i know it mostly due to the fact he's looked great and he was a late starter but i wonder when he retires will people remember him as a sort of Moore type, for instance if Stevenson were to get KO'd from Williams,i doubt many people will blame Stevenson's age, probably just his vulnrability that he's always had,

Stevenson is underrated by some imo due to their dislike of him. Unless his legs have gone which is possible at his advanced age for an athlete- I see him out boxing and then knocking williams out. Stevenson is a good counter puncher and is elusive aswell.

Just watched the Williams-Rodriguez fight again. Edwin fought like a complete idiot. He wasn't thinking about defence. Pretty much just throwing bombs and leaving himself wide open. That isn't how Stevenson fights. He's not going to leave the same amount of openings to exploit. Even though he's a banger, Adonis is pretty defensively minded by nature.

Saying that though- I've just watched Stevenson vs Karpency (I think I missed it at the time) I think that's the most defensively open performance I've seen from Stevenson, against a mediocre fighter at that. He looked sloppy. I don't know if it was a sign of his reflexes and such starting to desert him or what but he looked more hittable than I've seen him in awhile. If he fights like that against Williams jnr who can punch if very little else, there's definietly the chance of the upset.

Such a sensational title win for Adonis, followed by such a underwhelming title reign, clearly dodging the real challenge out there.
And here we another hand picked patsy lined up for "cough cough superman"...at least Williams can hit a bit, but he looks very average and his chin is clearly made of the finest porcelain - The main reason team Adonis have picked this one...
and he is no doubt getting banjoed by that massive left-hand counter from the ultra cautious Adonis, fairly early on I imagine.

Should be an easy KO for chickenson. Hope the other guy sparks him though. He's a bell end!

Another bum fight for Chickenson.

Given up hope of ever seeing him vs Kovalev now. Chickenson will just keep KOing bums until he retires.

I've still got a slim hope Beterbiev will end up fighting him but I think you're right about Kovalev.

What a KO for Stevenson, double jab followed by a lovely left hand,Williams Jr falling face 1st to the canvas in the 4th,great little fight actually,Adonis putting Thomas down with a left cross in the 1st,you wondered if the end was around the corner but Williams Jr rallied and had his moments, tagging Stevenson more than once with hard combinations but Stevenson pulled out the KO with a cracking shot

Yes picturesque KO from Stevenson, seemed to show his chin was decent too, I'll watch the full fight tonight, but it makes it all the more frustrating that he's ducking Kov.

Hopefully a good opponent like Alvarez or Beterbiev is next, rather than further stagnation for a guy who is already close to 40. It speaks volumes that Williams is very arguably his best opponent in over 2 years.
