Welterweights: Donald Curry vs Roberto Duran

Post by elmersalsa »

Who wins this intriguing bout? The Lone Star Cobra that destroyed Milton McCrory in 1985 or The Hands of Stone of the night in. Montreal?

Im a big curry fan and take him over mayweather and all the 90s ww"s....but theres no way he could hold off a marauding peak duran.

Duran would stop him in 8 or 9 .

Its another conversation for another time but i actually feel a peak duran as in the first fight would have beaten the srl of the 2nd fight and by forcing srl to fight it would have been more or less a repeat of the first fight

Duran was sensational in Montreal.

I'd edge Duran slightly on points.

Curry had picture book skills and style but Duran was so tough, heavy handed and insistent, I don't think even prime Curry was as tough as Leonard and in a 15 round bout Duran would win either pretty wide (4 or 5) rounds or a late stoppage. Curry would bounce some beautifully timed shots of Duran's grill though.

Curry was a wonderful boxer ,capable of beating every style of foe, but he never really exhibited the kind of grit and tougness that srl did in his top fights at 147 and against this peak duran he would surely need it in spades.

Curry could do it all inc boxing and moving.

But here he gets worns down

I can't imagine Curry being able to pull this one off.

Duran by 14th round TKO. But Curry would be leading on the cards.

Curry is my all time favorite fighter. But Duran in Montreal! Wow. I think it goes longer 10 or 11. But the Curry that knocked McCrory out was a thing of beauty. I think Donald hit harder than Ray. So if he lands the hook that sunk Detroit maybe Roberto fights a little different. Maybe
