He doesn't talk about it much but my mam once told me he continued fighting the guy then ran for a short distance before collapsing. One of the times my dad did talk about it he said he never knew he'd been stabbed. He was on the ground wrestling and trying to hit the other guy whilst this nutter was stabbing away at him. He said he thought the guy was just punching him.

I've had a few close calls as well and have been lucky. its very common over here. Have to be honest it gives me the fear even today!

True. Most of the big fights I've attended have passed without incident. I've been quite lucky in that regard but you can always feel the atmosphere and you know it wouldn't take much for the whole place to kick off at times.

I've only saw one fight and it was at my mates debut. Two guys arguing then it all booted off. Barry Hughes was there and nearly got caught up in it.

Another one of his fights at Kelvin Hall there was a mass brawl but we had just left and must've got out just as it was starting. You could tell in advance things were about to go south!

On another forum a guy was saying how he took his wife to her very first boxing event, after years of her saying it looked a bit too rowdy and rough for her.

He assured everything was fine and took her to Magnificent Seven show in Birmingham.

They politely clapped after the Anthony Small vs Matthew Hall fight concluded, and a couple of Hall's supports lashed out at them and others around them - and she had her nose broken.

He wrote that the security basically ran the other way as fists began to fly everywhere as the Hall fans charged around before leaving.

I have to say, that generally the atmosphere at many boxing events is very unpleasant, and also the security presence is too sparse and ineffectual.

Unfortunately boxing attracts a lot of people who think they are hard by proxy because they support their local fighter, add in the fact that they are pissed and coked up, and you've got an incendiary atmosphere. I often used to be glad to get out of the venue as quickly as possible after a night's boxing.

Lucky not to lose an eye. Luckily after everything had healed and the scar faded I've only ended up with a small scar across my nose and a little knick in the corner of my left eye. Just mindless daftness!

I took my little sister to Hatton-Magee years ago and a group of lads threatened us for committing the ultimate crime of scoring Farnell-Groenewald in favour of the away fighter. They asked if I was “One of those posh c*nts” and, ironically, a bunch of Northern Irish lads shouted them down.

Liverpool’s always interesting, on one occasion I was berated for using the toilet as a toilet and delaying the cocaine line (pun intended). Manchester is just as bad, though, as one guy tried forcing some up my nose when I said “No thanks, I’ve never used it” after he kindly offered me a line as I left the toilet.

It’s not unique to boxing. I went to a Stone Roses concert recently and from ages 20-50 the behaviour of some of the blokes was an embarrassment.

That T in the Park was last month and that's starting to gain quite the reputation for violence. It costs a fortune for tickets as well. Spend all that money on tickets, camping etc.. and go to fight? Stupid pudenda!

Like you say I think you get that kind of dickhead behaviour at any type of big event.

I do find small hall shows are better and you don't get that type of idiots there but can get some nasty people at them depending on who's on the bill what area's/people represented etc.
