Maybe that fight's caused him some lingering doubt, but to fair he'd only boxed for 2 years at the time.

Incidentally, I noticed that Evgeny Romanov, the guy who knocked him out, had his first pro fight the other day. If his info is correct he's 31 this year and only 6'0" as a HW, so I'm not expecting much.

He did all of that bending over crap in the semi finals of the Olympics against the Italian Russo. Frigging 6' 6" or whatever he is and he bent over every time Russo charged at him instead of pivoting and jabbing and throwing a cross. Russo would fall over his back every time. It was a frustrating fight to watch when you are cheering for the guy.

Maybe Romanov and Wilder need a rematch once Wilder is healed from his surgery. Then his fear of Povetkin might go away? Of course, trolls like Freedom would call it cherry picking. I could post a video of Povetkin getting knocked down 4 times vs an over the hill Wlad saying this is why he fears Wlad, but not about to stoop to that level. The smart posters would roll their eyes, the dumb ones wouldn't get it.

Wilder got a glass chin. No doubt about it. That is why he has carefully avoided good opposition.

Povetkin fought Klitschko in his prime and you know that very well. And you know very well that would be another cherry pick nowadays.

Lol, Povetkin would also beat any cruiserweight. Fact that that 6ft cruiserweight was seen as an opponend is already funny enough. I can't remember Povetkin ever fighting someone that light and small has he?

Apparently you forgot how badly Povetkin struggled with cruiserweight Huck. If Wilder had a glass chin, it would have already been shattered.

Povetkin had also Chris Bird (211 pounds) and Chambers (215 pounds) and bunch of less known 210+/- opponents, easily checked in Boxrec. Povetkin himself was 220- most of his career.

Wilder made US Olimpic team as a cruiser (Heavy Weight in amateur weights, 200+ called Super HW in amateur). He also was 220- in most of his fights.

I do not compere anyone to Ali, but Ali also started as LHW in Olympic Games...and Patterson even in Middle :box:

Russo was better and much more experienced boxer when. It was his second Olympic tournament(lost to Ward in 2004, btw), he had 6-7 international tournaments before this one (Amateur Mediterranian, EU and World Championships), since 2003.

You can't deny that the European boxers are currently better as the American ones can you?

Some of them are, some of them aren't. The plethora of ways to make ridiculous amounts of money in less dangerous athletic endeavors in America may have something to do with it. Boxing just doesn't have the influence here that it used to, combine that with an underwhelming amateur program, it is no surprise we don't push out the amount of top talent we used to. I'm impressed with the Euro's I've seen lately especially the Russians at or around 160lbs, but when we look at the best pound for pound fighters in recent years I don't see as many of them as I do Americans even in this a lesser era for U.S. boxers. As of now I don't see how we can say the Euro's are all better when they haven't clearly proven it yet. They have the potential to be.

I don't think the reason is that Wilder lost some amateur fights... Joshua, Klitschko's, Povetkin, Lewis, and everybody else lost amateur fights.

The reason is, Povetkin has been training harder since his only loss and he's looked better.. He presented a significant risk so they finagled a way out of Wilder's only mandatory Title Defense so far.. The WBC has been giving DW board deference to fight whoever he wants -- and VADA is tied in with the WBC

Were they doing chicken dance multiple times in the same fight while wearing head gear ?
