Murder outside York Hall Friday

Definitely mate. When I was a boy my dad got stabbed to within a quarter of an inch of his life. Stabbed multiple times and one of the wounds was literally fractions from piercing his heart. He doesn't talk about it much but my mam once told me he continued fighting the guy then ran for a short distance before collapsing. One of the times my dad did talk about it he said he never knew he'd been stabbed. He was on the ground wrestling and trying to hit the other guy whilst this nutter was stabbing away at him. He said he thought the guy was just punching him.

I've had a few close calls as well and have been lucky. its very common over here. Have to be honest it gives me the fear even today!

Yeah Glasgow and the surrounding areas has a real problem. Seems to be part of the culture which is worrying. Two personal friends of mine have been stabbed and killed and I know of scores more. Even though I grew up around it I still don't understand it. There was a big group of us growing up and most of us are still close now and not one of us would've ever even considered carrying a knife. You knew who all the ones to keep away from were. Most of the people that carried were known for it.

There's a boy I grew up with that's a double murderer. Done a guy when he was 18/19, served 5 years for culpable homicide then got out and stabbed a local gangster to death. He's serving at least 20 years I think for that one. When he gets out he'll be 50ish and I'd bet my house he'll do it again to some other poor fukker!

Anyway his dad was a total screwball and used to send him out to chib folk when he was just a wee boy. He never had a chance with parents like that. Couldn't really fight but he was a total fuckin psycho! He'd fight anyone and if he got beating then whoever dished it out would have to get to fukk pronto because he'd be back with a tool. Scary scary guy. Just didn't care. The two guys he killed were like executions as well. He knew he was going to kill em. Never missed either of em. Went right to town on their face, neck, throat and bodies in a frenzy!

I went to 3 big(ish) cards in the space of about a year and all 3 kicked quite majorly. Mag 7 card as already mentioned in the thread, Rendall Munroe v Terrazas in Coventry. Munroe is from Leicester and their football hooligans & Coventry hooligans apparently have 'beef'. The Leicester hooligans just started fighting and smashing things up. Still not sure if this was organised and Coventry bottled it or if it was just one sided trouble for 'face' purposes.

The other was at a Prizefighter card in London that Travis Dickenson won. Fight was going on in the ring and it just kicked off in the stands between about 40 people. Proper full on violence.

In all 3, the security had no idea what to do and the Police wanted nothing to do with it as they didn't want to come into the venue.

Still, it could all be worse. We could be going to uni in Texas where it is now legal to carry a concealed weapon as it will help to beat the bad guys

The North, South and East ends all have pretty bad areas. The city centre and west ends are quite good. Plenty to see and do, nice restaurants and pubs etc.... Kelvinside is nice. Lovely park and big museum and again a lot of really nice places to eat and drink.

Was the thing you watched called the scheme? If it was it was in Kilmarnock. The Onthank estate. That show was hilarious. some right funny folk kicking about there!

Although I'm partial myself, I have to say, I'm fortunate it doesn't turn me into a megabellend, but then again I was never a particularly violent, obnoxious or aggressive type, and at 45, any hints of that type of behaviour are long gone.

It is unfortunate that everywhere you go now, people are off their chops, drunk and coke fuelled, it doesn't make for great interactions. At my age the main purpose of doing coke is staying awake, as after a few drinks I'm falling asleep. Maybe I should just stay in, not that this is any guarantee of safety from inebriation.

Was loads of dogs at Frampton/Quigg still plenty of sniff going about inside, same with the two shows I've been to at the Barclay Card Arena in Brum. Them dogs don't detect fornicate all if you've got a couple of grams of heavily cut sniff down ya sock your getting through no problem. If you're walking round with a kilo down ya pants you might have a problem.

I can't see how any boxing fan would wanna be sniffed up at a show personally you don't concentrate and just wanna keep fornicating off to the bar/bog. Why I rarely partake at boxing show. But the problem is plenty of these big shows aren't full of what I'd class as actual boxing fans they're there for the big fight or just to 'for the crack' (no pun intended) etc so they're not gonna mind not conentrating on the undercard when they can just bounce up sniffed up for the main event.

I used to be partial myself but I very seldom take it anymore tbh. Last time I had any was before Xmas I think. Not to say I wouldn't do it again. Everyone did the off before the old bill arrived, which meant the rest of the show felt pretty empty.

I remember a huge brawl at Wembley conference centre, think it was Michael Ayers last fight, there was this fat bloke getting punched all over the show. I remember it getting filmed by Eric on here I think it was, and there were people watching it back laughing. I remember that the entire crowd stopped watching the boxing, and started watching the punch up in the stands.

Like you say I think you get that kind of dickhead behaviour at any type of big event.

I do find small hall shows are better and you don't get that type of idiots there but can get some nasty people at them depending on who's on the bill what area's/people represented etc.

I can’t recall any real problems at small hall shows. I used to really like the Sunday afternoon ones and, ironically, it was at one of them that I had some minor bother with some guys who were still drunk from the night before and kept kicking my chair then singing “It wasn’t me!” in that daft Shaggy voice. Then they realised I was writing notes so they’d time their kicks when I was trying to jot stuff down.

Two fights in, Jamie Moore came over and said “Hello” so all the lads behind asked for a photo with him etc. They were perfect gentlemen for the rest of the day. One guy kept telling me what type of punch landed and when “Because I noticed you were writing away, fella” and another one came out with that old “You should write a book about me!” chestnut.

Scariest thing I’ve seen didn’t involve crowd trouble. It was at Haye-Barrett and some lone nut was dancing in the stands. For some reason he decided to leap over the concrete barrier, presumably without realising there was a substantial drop on the other side. We heard the thud of him hitting the concrete floor and the ambulance people rushed over to him. I’m not sure what happened next as a fight was taking place and the next round had started.

Froch-Groves at Wembley had its fair share of coked up knobs. Entering the toilets was like entering Mad Max. Lots of tarts dressed up like hookers. I went to the event with my stepdad and it was his first boxing event.


I remember John Ryder walked past me and I'm about 5'11/6ft and he seemed bloody tiny. He looked about 5'7 in person. Anyway the actual event itself went by pretty well in regards to trouble and we got chatting to a couple of young guys from London and they were a good laugh.

We got a coach back to Kent as part of the package of the ticket and that's where trouble did occur. A bunch of about 7 or 8 coked up guys, 3 or 4 who were huge were seriously rowdy and obviously looking for trouble. One started kicking the back of my stepdad's chair and shouting poo. I didn't know what o do at this point. Luckily it never went beyond that point but it was intimidating atmosphere all the way back to put it mildly. They kept shouting at the coach driver to play specific music and at one point we had the opening dance track from Blade blaring out (the track in the nightclub scene right at the beginning of the film) down the motorway. Then when we were all about to get off the coach when we reached our destination- one scrawny little fornicator from the same group starts shouting in my face and asks me if I've had a good night. I reply yeah and then he screeches "me too, I'm coked off my effing nut!" It was said in a pretty hostile way though lol.

I dunno if anyone else experienced anything like that at Froch-Groves 2.

I made my Mrs watch it a couple of years ago because she hadn't seen it and she thought it was a comedy show She didn't believe me it was actually real She's a posh twat though

Then they realised I was writing notes so they’d time their kicks when I was trying to jot stuff down.

Two fights in, Jamie Moore came over and said “Hello” so all the lads behind asked for a photo with him etc. They were perfect gentlemen for the rest of the day. One guy kept telling me what type of punch landed and when “Because I noticed you were writing away, fella” and another one came out with that old “You should write a book about me!” chestnut.

Scariest thing I’ve seen didn’t involve crowd trouble. It was at Haye-Barrett and some lone nut was dancing in the stands. For some reason he decided to leap over the concrete barrier, presumably without realising there was a substantial drop on the other side. We heard the thud of him hitting the concrete floor and the ambulance people rushed over to him. I’m not sure what happened next as a fight was taking place and the next round had started.

Froch-Groves at Wembley had its fair share of coked up knobs. Entering the toilets was like entering Mad Max. Lots of tarts dressed up like hookers. I went to the event with my stepdad and it was his first boxing event.


I remember John Ryder walked past me and I'm about 5'11/6ft and he seemed bloody tiny. He looked about 5'7 in person. Anyway the actual event itself went by pretty well in regards to trouble and we got chatting to a couple of young guys from London and they were a good laugh.

We got a coach back to Kent as part of the package of the ticket and that's where trouble did occur. A bunch of about 7 or 8 coked up guys, 3 or 4 who were huge were seriously rowdy and obviously looking for trouble. One started kicking the back of my stepdad's chair and shouting poo. I didn't know what o do at this point. Luckily it never went beyond that point but it was intimidating atmosphere all the way back to put it mildly. They kept shouting at the coach driver to play specific music and at one point we had the opening dance track from Blade blaring out (the track in the nightclub scene right at the beginning of the film) down the motorway. Then when we were all about to get off the coach when we reached our destination- one scrawny little fornicator from the same group starts shouting in my face and asks me if I've had a good night. I reply yeah and then he screeches "me too, I'm coked off my effing nut!" It was said in a pretty hostile way though lol.

I dunno if anyone else experienced anything like that at Froch-Groves 2.

Froch Groves 2 - where was that held and how many people were there?

I don't know, Carl Froch probably knows, but he doesn't like to talk about it, he's the Uncle Albert of boxing.

Small-Hall was at the MEN, the guy must have been hit harder than he initially thought!

Got to love Brum fight nights, though. I was at one of those shows and a fight broke out between football fans. They weren’t rival factions, either, as two groups of BCFC fans were kicking off amongst themselves.

I took my little sister to Hatton-Magee years ago and a group of lads threatened us for committing the ultimate crime of scoring Farnell-Groenewald in favour of the away fighter. They asked if I was “One of those posh c*nts” and, ironically, a bunch of Northern Irish lads shouted them down.

Liverpool’s always interesting, on one occasion I was berated for using the toilet as a toilet and delaying the cocaine line (pun intended). Manchester is just as bad, though, as one guy tried forcing some up my nose when I said “No thanks, I’ve never used it” after he kindly offered me a line as I left the toilet.

It’s not unique to boxing. I went to a Stone Roses concert recently and from ages 20-50 the behaviour of some of the blokes was an embarrassment.

I prob got the opponent wrong, but remember it being Mag 7 and Hall's supporters in the tale I read.

Worst atmosphere for me ironically was Khan vs Lawton at Nottingham Arena. Usually it's not a bad venue for fight nights - but the tension and vibe was unlike anything I've seen before ever.

Absolutely idiotic to put "Khan's army" in with a boat load of Stoke supporters after playing Forest that day.

I saw an Asian couple and they had their son and daughter with them, they were aged about 10. The kids were crying and they'd obviously badly misjudged the event as being suitable for seeing their hero Amir - and it was Khan's army that was leading the screaming and swearing. Super hostile bunch of absolute tools.

We ushered the family to stand with us as we had corralled a corner of the underpass. It came very close to a full-scale riot at one point - and the security would have stood no chance at all.

I’ve seen the “Khan Army” a couple of times. They make an incessant racket throughout. My personal opinion is that their ceaseless din neither does anything to inspire the boxer and worse - nor is it meant to.
I may have the wrong word here but bigotry comes to mind....it feels like “we’re Paki’s, he’s a Paki’ and we don’t give one f*ck about the rest of this show.

Glasgow is an awesome night out - being going occasionally for 25 years.

Back in the day for the Harrison fights at the Braehead arena, never had a bad time there (of course, lots of people pissed/coked, but it was easily navigable)

Appreciate that's delving back the years, but the Commonwealth Games were brilliant (I somehow introduced Alex Arthur to the wife of the president of Malawi).

Was last there for the Bruce Springsteen concert in the early summer. 60, 000 people at Hampden and not a hint of bother.

Incidentally, I do appreciate that analysis does quite hold true for a bunch of coked up/pisses Wedgies, I just wanted to mention that Glasgow can be a wonderful city.

I was saying to another poster- I've been to both Glasgow and Edinburgh but I've always preferred the latter for some reason. Glasgow just felt a bit more grim to me.

I was at Williams-Corcoran a couple of weeks ago, it kicked off right next to where I was sitting. Not a pleasant situation considering I'd brought my pregnant missus along with me, told her she can't come to any more shows after that.
