Why Deontay Wilder fears Alexander Povetkin

I don't think the reason is that Wilder lost some amateur fights... Joshua, Klitschko's, Povetkin, Lewis, and everybody else lost amateur fights.

The reason is, Povetkin has been training harder since his only loss and he's looked better.. He presented a significant risk so they finagled a way out of Wilder's only mandatory Title Defense so far.. The WBC has been giving DW board deference to fight whoever he wants -- and VADA is tied in with the WBC

All Povetkins amature loses were doubtfull/suspicious. He won 16 out of his last 17 tournaments and on the one he didn't win he won silver.
And those tournaments weren't local things, no, European titles several times in a row, world title, olympic titles, name it.

To be perfectly honest with you, Deontay Wilder has the size and ability to mimic Wladimir Klitschko’s blueprint to defeat Alexander Povetkin. Whether he has the discipline to maintain that strategy for every second of every minute of each and every single round is obviously unknown.

Therefore, I favour Wilder to defeat Povetkin, but I readily admit, I’m not very confident about my prediction.

That being said, in terms of the lawsuits, I honestly expect the Povetkin/Rabinsky to wipe the floor with Di Bella/Wilder. I thoroughly expect both Russian’s to receive huge out-of-court settlements.

Everybody who knew what they were talking about knew Povetkin was and is 100% innocent and it could easely be known thanks to Povetkin's earlier samples from 2015 that it would be natural to have some very small traces of this (in 2015 legal) substance left around april 2016. To act like you accept a fight while knowing the fight can be and will be avoided and meanwhile wrongly and on purpose spread around all kind of false information about your opponend is just plain sad, wrong, name it.

Wilder is avoiding anything riskfull and does everything to make money out of selfish reasons and then show of with it. He never defended his belt against anyone even close near his own boxrec rank has he?

His loss to Oleksiy Mazikin (who is 14-12-2, 4 KO in the pros BTW) at the World Championship in Belfast wan't suspicious at all. He also lost to Alexei Lezin in 2003, who was already totally shot years before he beat Povetkin.

Povetkin also always struggled against tall heavyweights (Mazikin, Lezin, Carrion), so I'm pretty sure amateur versions of Lewis, Wlad and Bowe would beat amateur version of Povetkin. And in the pros difference between those 3 and Povetkin is even bigger - it's HUGE.

Wilder and DiBella are being counter-sued for breaching their contract by walking away from the Povetkin fight after hearing the test results instead of waiting for the WBC’s decision, coupled with accusations of defamation.

We know for certain that DiBella and Jay Deas both claimed the bout was “cancelled” altogether, not merely “postponed”, whilst demanding they be paid for the fight anyway (as per their lawsuit), coupled with Wilder’s own defamatory statements about Povetkin.

The WBC postponed the bout, pending investigation, and Ryabinsky stated the fight would still take place but on another date. WADA subsequently cleared Povetkin and the WBC is likely to re-schedule the fight.

In terms of my "legal education", I studied UK Law to degree level, but this doesn't make me an expert on this matter.

I think that Wilder is mainly liable for defamation calling Povetkin a drug cheat while having nothing to back it up with.

The WBC only gave Deontay Wilder their approval to participate in a voluntary defence of his title as an interim measure whilst the Povetkin situation was being investigated.

Contrary to Di Bella’s and Jay Deas’ claims, the WBC did not “cancel” the bout (they only postponed it), nor did they actually punish Povetkin for any wrongdoing, which contradicts Wilder’s defamatory statements.

The WBC cannot punish Povetkin if they don’t have any evidence of any offence, because (according to them) he did not contravene any of WADA’s protocols or guidelines (as administered by VADA).

According to the official WBC website, Povetkin is the top ranked challenger to Wilder’s world title.

And the only ones who will see a lot of money out of the law suits are lawers-))))

I haven't seen the fight, but as far as I know it was suspicious. Despite Povetkin just left the kickboxing world at that moment. It was Povetkin's worst tournament ever and Mazikin's best. That same Mazikin lost all his other Povetkin fights. Lezin, who also beated both other Klitschko's for example, same story, I haven't seen it, but as far as I heard it was suspicious.
