Not a cheap night out though mind. Certainly not if the show is in London, 30 quid a ticket, booze, travel etc. For me, not great bang for the buck going to see live boxing generally speaking.Realistic wrote:Or attend small hall shows if there is a fighter you want to see.davie wrote:Will there be more quality shows?Realistic wrote: They will be offering a service; you don't have to purchase them so how are they ripping us off? If there is a really good competitive show on and I want to watch it I will. Nice to be given the opportunity to be honest; most of the best contests I have watched has been small hall shows.
Or the same number of quality shows and the same number of sub-stamdard shows with more people trying to charge us money for them?
Whether I choose to pay for them or not is immaterial to the debate. If I choose to pay for it, I now need to pay 3 major sports or boxing channels if I want to see the sport I love watching. If I want to see the very best contests, more and more will now fall under the ppv banner and the cost continues to spiral.
Or I can just use Kodi and be accused of not funding the sport and ripping of the fighters.

If it's a fight you think is worth paying for, yes.Realistic wrote:So makes the few quid PPV a good ideajamesmcdonnell wrote:Not a cheap night out though mind. Agree especially as with ITV I'd feel less greeved as its not like I'm already paying them subscription fees.jamesmcdonnell wrote:If it's a fight you think is worth paying for, yes.Realistic wrote:So makes the few quid PPV a good ideajamesmcdonnell wrote:

Would genuinely suggest having a look at http://www.boxingraise.com it's a paid service (about £7 a month) with some of the Japanese shows live streamed, others on tape delay). It's not English commentary but it provides a lot of action that isn't televised in Japan but should be.littlepug wrote:would love it if a channel picked up the japanese fights, theres some really good stuff going on over there, just need english commentary to make it palatable to the western audience
Of course the problem with picking up the Japanese cards, especially for PPV, would be the time zone with them starting at like 10am UK time.

I wonder if Jim Watt will have some role?
Re: ITV set to launch PPV channel
When are Eurosport going to be getting into the PPV market?
Bigger's Better tournaments will make fat dollar. As will weird small hall shows from France.

I've not seen any random small hall shows from Eurosport for a while to be fair. Used to enjoy them just for the sheer randomness of them.ILikeBeer wrote:When are Eurosport going to be getting into the PPV market?

Didn't Sanigar have some sort of deal with Eurosport too non of their bills seem to have been televised for a while.

They might have done. I sometimes used to just catch them if I was free in the evening and had beer in my flat.ste1983 wrote:

I remember once two French guys I'd never heard of fighting on an undercard once, and the commentators spent most of the fight discussing it as an eight rounder. Then it stopped after six rounds and went to the score card. The commentators threw a hissy fit, because they had it down in their notes as an eight rounder. It was like; "Well, they should've advertised the scheduled distance properly. What sort of amateur card is this?"
Another time, they made my favourite ever line of sport's commentary. They'd been hyping up all night that a women's fight was going to be on the undercard. After two blokes had finished fighting, the commentator said; "And after the break, we'll be changing genders." It sounded a bit Frank Maloney.
Good old Eurosport. I couldn't believe it when they announced they had Klitschko fighting.

I remember one (was aUK show too from Wales I think) where the tv people had obviously been given a wrong running order. The graphics were for two other guys and the commentators spent about the first 3 rounds thinking it was two completely different fighters.ILikeBeer wrote:They might have done. I think the gender reassignment crack was from one in Wales. The Newport Center it came from. I only remember that because I've been there. May have been the same one.ste1983 wrote:

Eurosport could be good for a laugh, even if their boxing was crap. I remember one guy commentator spending an entire round thanking everybody he knew for his received Christmas cards.
