McDermott????
He needs to have a fight before any type of title fight or eliminator.

Is is true Whyte was lucky to get the decision in his last fight versus that novice?

Re: Sam Sexton calls out Dillian Whyte - 'Grow some balls'
In form Mcdermott could beat Whyte on points
Re: Sam Sexton calls out Dillian Whyte - 'Grow some balls'
Thought Whyte looked shocking agains Allen but won the rounds. David Price on that showing should beat him handily
Re: Sam Sexton calls out Dillian Whyte - 'Grow some balls'
Dw vs chisora or price.
Re: Sam Sexton calls out Dillian Whyte - 'Grow some balls'
He hasn't fought in nearly 4 years so I highly doubt he'll ever be in 'form' again even if he does decide to return. I'd fancy Whyte to KO him regardless.TopGun wrote:In form Mcdermott could beat Whyte on points

It would be better for the title to remain vacant.
x2
Sexton is pretty rubbish, but deserves a shot for service - it'll be his cup final, a payday and better than a vacant title.
Whyte probably stops him.

Give the guy the a freakishly weak*, vacant British-title shot that he'll almost certainly lose.
Can't begrudge his career that.
*weakest since Julius Francis vs Mike Holden 16 yrs ago.

I can begrudge him that.skanksta wrote:C'mon you miserable old cynic ?!

He's been fighting bums for the last 4 years and has shown no ambition to step up.
He doesn't deserve a shot at the title.

Scott Gammer v Mark Krence and Micky Steeds were worse British title fights.skanksta wrote:C'mon you miserable old cynic ?!Horse wrote:Service? What service?skanksta wrote:x2

Brit Hvy title has come a looong way.
And Horse, in light of all these - you still begrudge poor Sexton ?
That's just not very nice.
Re: Sam Sexton calls out Dillian Whyte - 'Grow some balls'
Ouch. Why the hate for Sexton, Horse? The bloke has held the Commonwealth belt already, and has fought for the British title as well. Losses against the then undefeated Chisora and Price aren't disgraces. I think Whyte-Sexton would be a great fight, and getting the British belt back into circulation is good. The longer it gathers dust, the less relevant it will become.Horse wrote:If he fought a chump like Sexton, yes.ShadrachSimmo wrote:But can he win a British title horse?

Sprott deserves a British title shot far more than the awful Sam Sexton.
There is no reason why the Board cannot find a better challenger for the title than Sexton.
Re: Sam Sexton calls out Dillian Whyte - 'Grow some balls'
As much as I admire Sprott, I think he's done by this stage. He's been on the wrong end of a lot of nasty early KOs. Sexton might not be a world beater but he has a decent record, has been active recently and he hasn't been damaged to the extent of Sprott. Would you object to Cornish or Akinlade?
Re: Sam Sexton calls out Dillian Whyte - 'Grow some balls'
Yes, I would object to them. Why on earth should the Board have to go that far down the rankings to find a decent challenger for the title?Gnome wrote:As much as I admire Sprott, I think he's done by this stage. Like someone said, they should have eliminators for the lower ranked heavyweights to make the winners somewhat credible.
If none of our better heavyweights want to fight for the British title, then just leave it vacant for a while.
A fighter outside of the domestic top 10 should not be fighting for the vacant title and probably shouldn't even be allowed to fight for it as a voluntary defence either.

Re: Sam Sexton calls out Dillian Whyte - 'Grow some balls'
Well to a certain degree I agree with Horse on this one (didn't think I'd ever say that). The best thing to do is be objective about who our options are;
T.Fury - ineligible
Joshua - ineligible
Chisora - ???
Haye - not remotely interested
Whyte - No1 contender
Price - ???
H.Fury - declined offer
Cornish - ???
Allen - declined by the board for lack of experience
Sprott - basically dead
Sexton - ???
So from the list of British heavies, we have Chisora, Whyte, Price, Cornish and Sexton (without going lower in the rankings). I'm not sure if Chisora or Price are all that interested (if either are, then they should get it on). Despite Cornish's record, I think he'd still be a logical choice. I do agree that there should/could be a domestic eliminator, but I don't know how realistic it would be. I don't think Price would fight Chisora or Whyte in an eliminator. I'd be pretty satisfied if Sexton and Cornish fought in an eliminator, the winner fighting Whyte for the British title.
I don't agree that the British title should be left to 'gather dust' while we wait for a worthwhile fight. Would you tell Bradford that they couldn't participate in the league cup final because they're not very good? It should contest the two best fighters who are willing to participate. If that is Whyte and Sexton. So be it.

Re: Sam Sexton calls out Dillian Whyte - 'Grow some balls'
Chisora has said he isn't interested in fighting for a British title.

If Price or Chisora are interested then they should get a straight shot at it. That's a poor analogy.Rob3_142 wrote:I don't agree that the British title should be left to 'gather dust' while we wait for a worthwhile fight. Sexton can either prove himself or bugger off. He should not be given a straight shot.
