Maybe he just can't be arsed to put the work in, who knows. Think this is most likely the end, it's not like another promoters dying to snap him up, and it will probably drag on for 18 months trying to escape his contract.

I think a lot of the Cubans have had some problems adjusting when they come over, they start pricing themselves out of opportunities because they've never seen so much money, not to mention booze, drugs, women etc. It's a massive shift in their lives.

Ustinov gets screwed again! He had a big fight scheduled with Tyson Fury and they even held the pressers - and then Fury cancelled it because of a personal tragedy in his family, but Ustinov didn't get a new fight date. He just got screwed.

Like I said earlier, think you need to take into account what happens to them psychologically when they come to the U.S, so many distractions and temptations.

It's a bloody shame, because Ortiz looked really very talented, but I expect to hear very little about him now.

Interesting point. If one is not used to luxury or temptation and are suddenly exposed they can't control themselves. Its like if an inner city kid sees a swimming pool or a luxury item they go nuts. Show the same stimuli to an upper class kid and they're like "whatever." A middle class American or European have seen strip clubs or drugs their whole lives. Some develop problems; most don't. But A Cuban coming over sees all that for the first time. It's very different to them.

I don't know much about the Philippines, but I do believe Mexicans, even the very poor ones, have more exposure to drugs and brothels than Cubans, which is a more closed and disciplined society.

Luis Ortiz’s career hadn’t really progressed that well under Golden Boy and his fight purses were really quite small.

That being said, he was suspended and fined for using PED’s, so it must be hard to rebuild a career for someone caught cheating.

Is it really worth other heavyweights fighting Ortiz, when he's fairly anonimous and brings very little money to the table? In terms of risk-versus-return, he's a member of the "who needs you" club.

It looked as though Ortiz was getting off to a good start. He beat guys like Kendrick Releford and Zach Page very early in his pro career and then just went dormant.

It's hard to figure out whose fault that is. Management? The fighter? Other fighter's management? Just a damn shame all these HW fights are falling thru or not even getting made in the first place.

What anti Fury propaganda?? I like Fury, but just like I said he screwed Ustinov! And, by the way, many fighters have gone ahead with their fights despite even worse personal tragedies. I like Fury but I don't like what he did to Ustinov.

I would say this is very true. I won't say for all Cubans. I been to Cuba 22 times the last 6 years. I spent time in Havana, Holguin & Varadero. Been in Cardenas & Matanzas as well. It can't be easy going from Cuba to The States, Europe or Canada. I have a friend who was a singer in Cuba. She was going through tough times as a couple of the places she sang at were closing down & couldn't afford to pay her. She is one of the nicest people I ever met & she got an audition to go sing in Dubai at a expensive hotel that was looking for a Cuban salsa band. She got the job & has now been there 5 years, got married to a German, has a drivers licence & also teaches singing lessons too. She told me landing in a 1st world airport for the first time was very overwhelming with all the buzzes & bells, lights, etc... Ortiz, Gamboa, Solis, Jorge Luis Gonzalez all struggled. Gamboa got bad advice & never recovered after giving up a million to fight Rios. He breached his contract to join 50 cent. Turned out bad for him. Ortiz is pretty foolisg considering GBP stuck by him after failed drug test...

The fight was all set up and pressers were even held, and just because you project the winner in your own mind doesn't mean a damn thing. Repeat: I like Fury but he screwed Ustinov.
