who cares about the British and/or the Commonwealth heavyweight title? It´s as unimportant like the German or the German International title though there are much better heavyweights like actually in Britain. It´s like the WBF- or the WBU-title. worth a shit.

Williams is over the hill. a loss against him is ridiculuos for a contender. the whole world would laugh about Skelton like Harrison. If Skelton should win he could come over and fight Sam to show how good he really is.

excuse me? I dont mind your opinions but one suggests in a british forum DISCUSSING AN ALL BRITISH FIGHT that we do guive a fornicate about the british and commonweaLth title.

Thats a comment Id expect to see on the current scene hang your head in shame.

I'll be quite honest, the commonwealth title is a load of old bollocks, the British title is a matter of honour, but the commonwealth title is pretty meaningless.

As things go, it's a good match-up. The mecurial talent of Danny Williams versus the overnight sensation Matt Skelton. This will finally decide who the best in the UK is. We've wanted an answer now for some time about just how good Matt Skelton is. Tomorrow night we will definately find out.
Skelton's rapid rise through the British heavyweight ranks has caught everyone's eye. Stoppage wins over Michael Sprott and Keith Long are good results, and the Long win is better, as Danny didn't stop him.
Danny has mixed in better class, the Tyson win in July 2004 was a great win, but a fearsome beating by Vitali Klitschko in December of the same year seemed to show where Danny was in the scheme of things.
This is what's so interesting about Danny - Klitschko was the best of the bunch, and I'd be hard-pressed to find another heavyweight that would beat him, apart, maybe, from Hasim Rahman and, of course, Lennox Lewis. Thus, I still have a feeling that Danny has something left to offer in world-class, but as most of you probably feel, it's hard to see after the Harrison debacle. His mental state is a huge question mark as well - which DW will turn up?
Skelton is simply in the position of being unproven at top level. Can he handle a strong boxer like DW at his best?

Danny early or Matt late.

Just because you're German title isn't worth a smeg don't try and lump in the British title in the same way!... the British title has a long and honourable history in boxing, it is in mant ways second only to a true world championship.... if I was you I'd read up a bit on boxing history before you start comparing the British title with the tripe that passes for titles in Germany... who won the war anyway!!... 8)

who cares about the British and/or the Commonwealth heavyweight title?
The fighters who spend years training and then win one?

The British Title is still very highly respected by UK fighters and fans alike.

Unless Matt walks onto one of Williams early Hail Marys, and he might, then it's Skelton for me.

Skelton TKO8

I see Danny having a good first round, but looking more and more plodding as the fight goes on, Skelton will be pressurising the whole fight, alot of wrestling and mauling, all the time Danny tiring from it and around the eighth Danny hitting the canvas a couple of times for the referee to intervene, maybe more from exhaustion than the power of the punches. He just doesn't seem fit at that weight, which is obvious to everyone except him.

Whatever it will be ugly, that i'm sure of.

Just ran the bout on the Title Bout boxing simulator and according to that Skelton will have Williams down in the 1st and KO him in the second. Needless to say I won't be betting by this sim.

It's a computer program/game that list a lot of active and inactive fighters and lets you edit their attributes if you feel they are inaccurate and face them off against each other.

J, it´s just a fact that actually the Biritish heavyweight scene is beyond the rest of Europe. It is hard for you guys to realise after the best british heavy generation (Lewis,Hide,Bruno) retired.......

No it isnt lost on us at all any fool can see the present crop arent in the same class as lewis, but to say we dont care aobut our own title in the blue riband weight of boxing is bollocks.

It wouldnt matter if it was two builders contesting it, most british boxing fans would tune in to see who wins.

Williams an skelton are fringe Euro level contenders on the face of it, but they are the best we have at the moment and rewarded us with a techinically low level contest but one with blood guts and action.

I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Of course some british boxing fans care about a Williams-Skelton-fight for the British title. but the rest of the world doesn´t care. this title has no international meaning.

As J said, we are painfully aware of the dearth of talent in our heavyweight division, which is at possibly the lowest ebb In my living memory. Williams, Skelton and Sprott are hardly the most inspiring triumverate of leading heavyweights. Frank Bruno would have battered all three on the same night let alone Lennox.

So what if it has no international meaning? this is a british board talking about a british title

Skelton and Williams aren't world class I think everyone realises this. Good close fight though, the ref should have def. been firmer with Skelton for his tactics but in his own out of shape way, Williams dealt with it well and kept his cool, rarely resorting to the same tactics to get Matt back.

For me Williams cleaner work along with the clear final round just about nicked it for him
