My memory was of a race johnson commented commented on where chambers was quite slow. It was some time before he was tested positive.

Johnson said it without actually mentioning drugs. It was clear though what he was insinuating. Chambers looked like a side of beef.evrenb wrote:I bet athletes know when other athletes are juicing...jamesmcdonnell wrote:My memory was of a race johnson commented commented on where chambers was quite slow. Enjoyed reading through this thread, a few bits and pieces from me :
- the timing of all this is ridiculous ! The test was done in February last year was it not ? 18 months ago! Seriously that's a joke and the doping authorities need banning themselves. ( athleics has just gone through the same thing , this whole Russian state doping was exposed by the whistle blower in 2010).
It should have all been wrapped up a year ago.., test sample A , test Sample B ! Both positive ? What's your explanation? Best case scenario for the Furys is contaminated supplements , but even then they would have got some ban! As you, as an athlete have a responsibility for what goes in your body!
- Christie attributed is 1988 test failure to some ginseng he bought in the Far East ! He was lucky to get away with that
- Regarding those just coming out and owning up! A few have done it , but they usually end up getting treated far worse than those who come up with some bullshit excuse ( Dwain Chambers came clean and it did him no good at all).
- can,t remember what Chambers failed for , but I believe he said he was taking a wide range of drugs including HGH and EPO too. Remember at the time the thing that pushed him to drugs was the thought of never beating Maurice Greene ( draw your own conclusions on Greenes supplement useage)
- like others have said Bolt has been setting world bests since he was 14.. you would like to think they weren't giving drugs to a 14 year old. (Although the current strongest female weightlifter in the world failed a drugs test at 15 :( )

Enjoyed your post mate and I do recall that Chambers did admit it, although did not recall that til you posted. But want to take a slight exception to this part of your post, if it is meant to give some weight to Bolt being clean.
He is clearly elite, hugely talented and fast and IF he is on drugs, is why he has been chosen and given support to get away with it. PED. HGH, whatever would have made a guy who would be rocket fast anyway, even faster. No one would suggest some slow ass guy who always comes last was juiced up then beat everyone.
Setting records at 14, presumably clean, means that he was the fastest at that age amongst other presumably clean kits. Which is why he has performed at the level he has. Best clean, beat all rivals clean. Joins new arena of juicers as most if not all sprinters are, beats them too.
Some say, I am not sure though, that if all clean, the best would still be the best. Bolt is the best of his peer group - best clean kid, best among juicers

Johnson is one of the few i dont suspect. Perhaps a little fanboyishly. Loved watching him. Like a wind up toy. Very unusual style. Redolent of jesse owens really fast turnover and short strides.Counter-puncher wrote:Johnson is a fine one to talk I saw his tricep increase by about an inch in the space of a yearjamesmcdonnell wrote:Johnson said it without actually mentioning drugs. I personally was suspicious as A, his physique developed remarkably in the space of a year, I think circa 1994-95, and B, he was so far ahead of his competitors. But then they were half of them on it themselves,so

Him, bolt and ed moses are my favourites ever. Moses was the man. Think it was 11 years without being beaten.rd350lc wrote:yep echo that , was awesome in his day over 400 or 200 with that lean-back stylejamesmcdonnell wrote:Johnson is one of the few i dont suspect. Re: Tyson Fury charged by UKad
Just did a tiny bit of digging
It was 9 years 9 months.
He won his first Olympic gold, aged 20, having been on an academic not athletic scholarship at a college without a track team.
It was his first international meet and he had run his first competitive 400m hurdles FOUR MONTHS previously
fornicate me

Chambers failed for using THG, but later admitted to using a number of different peds. To go back to Bolt being on peds, everyone around him is failing tests, his training partners included and yet they still can't beat him when they're on peds and Bolt is 'clean'. If Bolt were to fail a test, the blow to athletics would be unreal, so even if he does fail a test, it will never come out.knockout wrote:- can,t remember what Chambers failed for , but I believe he said he was taking a wide range of drugs including HGH and EPO too. Re: Tyson Fury charged by UKad
Thanks Toby, it was a possible reason some people think Bolt is clean ! ;) I do , but maybe I am a naive old romantic :) I certainly am not going to argue with someone who disagrees ! Only one person knows for sure!tobyh5 wrote: Enjoyed your post mate and I do recall that Chambers did admit it, although did not recall that til you posted. I will offer a different opinion regarding the point the best clean = best dirty .. I think different people respond differently to drugs. I mean you aren't gonna take a fat slob with no fast twitch muscle fibres and make him an Olympic champ no matter how much drugs you feed him! But I think at the top end of the genetically gifted talents, there is enough variation in the human bodies response to PEDs, to mean the best natural wouldn't necessarily be the best juiced ! So if you took the 10 most naturally gifted sprinters in the world , had them race... Then put them on a cycle or two , then race them again, I don't believe the order will be the same ;)
from an article about Russian weightlifting in the 1980s , I read comment " athlete A and athlete B were very weak when off cycle ". The guys in question were Olympic/world medalists and one was arguably the greatest lifter ever, but it was noted that they weren't so good when clean !

Interviewer ; I've heard the Khristov and Vardanyan were not very strong when not using restoratives?
Taranenko: I've heard that about Khristov too. Vardanyan was incredibly weak, without them.
Re: Tyson Fury charged by UKad
Thanks Matt , not sure how effective That THG was , I think it was pretty weak personally and the main selling point at the time was the lack of detection ! until of course that bitter jealous drug cheat scum bag Trevor Graham sent a sample to the authorities ( cause Contes drug cheats were beating his drugs cheats )MattCoke wrote:

I think most of the Jamaicans in Bolts training group who have failed have been for pretty minor stimulants rather than steroids if memory serves correct ... The media seldom differentiates between a failed test for something similar to caffeine or a failed test for an injectable anabolic steroid :)

The more i think about it the more I realise the coded messages the commentators used to put out about '*superhuman* performances' from the eastern Europeans back in the day
Re: Tyson Fury charged by UKad
Most were at it in the 80s! It's just the Eastern Europeans were state run! The Western Europeans and Americans were doing it too!Counter-puncher wrote:The more i think about it the more I realise the coded messages the commentators used to put out about '*superhuman* performances' from the eastern Europeans back in the day
I mean no out of competition drug testing ? An invitation to treat if ever I heard one ;) basically get bang on the gear in the winter and come off in time for the tested events

:
I know that. But the commentators weren't giving out those coded messages about everyone else, I don't think. The particularly (in hindsight) insinuating uses of words like superhuman were for the russkies.

Re: Tyson Fury charged by UKad
PED`s have been around from the creation of time. They have always been used.
Their portrayal in popular culture, especially when specifically targeted at the vunerable minds of the child, sickens me. Superman, the incredible hulk and the bull dyke 400m runner Kratochvilova spring to mind as clear examples.
Proof that PED`s have been in use since time began is easily found when one follows the career of the late Albert Foss, better known as Captain Caveman.
This lunatic took drugs so effective that by merely chanting the name of his alter ego, he erupted into a mindless savage, capable of pounding any rival into the ground. Of all the drug cheats I have known, Caveman has to be the worst. It even effected his voice, twisting it into a half scream half pubescent break.
PED`s aren`t a recent phenomena, they have been in our psyche forever.
RIP Caveman. You pioneer of PED
