Seth Mitchell Vs Jonathan Banks 2
Seth Mitchell Vs Jonathan Banks 2
A little birdie has told me that Mr. Banks was indeed greased to lose his rematch with Mitchell. Can anyone else confirm or deny or have heard similar Intel on this particular fight ?
Supposedly, as I'm told, Mitchell's camp realized fully the severe limitations of their fighter in the first Banks fight - but in order get him to a one time title shot payday they had to first reverse the Banks first fight. Greasing Banks allowed this to take place. But a funny thing happened on the way to getting Mitchell his payday. He had to face Arreola before Arreola was a shot fighter. And we saw what happened there. Arreola assaulted Mitchell like Banks did in their first fight. The only explanation to what happened in the 2nd Banks fight falls in line with what I'm told about that fight.

Funny you bring this up. I bet on Banks to upset Mitchell in the first fight. I believe Mitchell was a -700 or -800 favorite, please remind me if you have better recollection. I bet a large portion of my winnings on Banks in the rematch, and this was my reaction as each round passed

Im going off UK odds here but Ive seen the following...
Mitchell 1.26 v Banks 4.75
The rematch was dead on even money.
Also, it seems there is further suggestion of a fix, dont know how true it is but it certainly seems to fit as you say.
The comments on the boxrec page are quite scathing and amusing....
"In an outcome experts predicted, hard punching Chris Arreola exposed Golden Boy's overhyped overprotected football player turned boxer Seth Mitchell, dropping him in the first round, then beating him senseless with pinpoint overhand right power shots to the head which left Mitchell helpless along the ropes, prompting referee Jack Reiss to stand in front of Mitchell looking at Arreola to protect Mitchell's life.
Previously Mitchell was exposed in his first bout with Johnathon Banks as being unable to either hold or take a punch in a lopsided round and a half. Mitchell somehow won a 12 round rematch with Banks in a bout which never looked legit or 'on the level' to boxing experts.
"I got caught. I'm very disappointed. My heart hurts right now. I've got to go back to the drawing board," said Mitchell after the bout, but it was far worse than that. Arreola, supposedly in a 'do or die fight', felt Mitchell out quickly like an experienced Archie Moore and knew right away Mitchell could neither box nor take a punch from a world class fighter, and did not prolong Mitchell and the telecast's agony for very long."
This has kind of got the Mark Gastineau v Tim Anderson vibe about it without the tragic outcome.
As Ive written this post the more I believe that Banks palm was greased.

From what I remember people were saying Banks had messed up hands in that rematch, but the way he fought was suspicious from the very beginning. Wouldn't surprise me at all if there were other forces at work. That fight was definitely sketchy.

I don't know for sure, but I 100% believe that fight was a fix and said so on the night.

I can't say anything untoward happened, but it was definitely an odd showing from Banks and it looked to me like he intentionally let Mitchell off the hook a few times.
Re: Seth Mitchell Vs Jonathan Banks 2
If Banks did indeed throw it, it'd be pretty sad because he still shook Mitchell to his heels at one point. He definitely took his foot off the gas and just didn't punch at him anymore after that.
Re: Seth Mitchell Vs Jonathan Banks 2
exactly, it looked intentional. You see enough of a guy you know what's he's capable of, and that didn't seem like a couldn't pull the trigger situation looked like he held back. This was a guy he wiped out in two rounds previously. It don't add up.crusader wrote:I agreeSFW wrote:From what I remember people were saying Banks had messed up hands in that rematch, but the way he fought was suspicious from the very beginning. How i remember it was Banks tried to blast him out early in this rematch. According to his story that's when he smashed both hands. After that he appeared to me to be concentrating on hiding the fact that his hands were too painful to punch with. That's what i thought at the time anyway.
I wondered what happened to Mitchell a couple of weeks ago and looked him up. It appears he realised going back to the drawing board wasn't enough...
Anyone know what he is doing now?

The birdie is lying... Banks tried very hard to get Mitchell out of there... Banks was just a terribly inept boxer - as the elderly LHW Antonio Tarver proved beyond any question of a doubt... In fact it made no sense for either Banks or Mitchell to continue their lackluster careers..diddy wrote:A little birdie has told me that Mr. Banks was indeed greased to lose his rematch with Mitchell. Mitchell had problems... His 2 knees were absolutely shot from 15 surgeries.. He had no balance and couldn't sprint hard or even run well... You need great knees for Boxing.. You saw Sergio Martinez in the Miguel Cotto fight??? That's what bad knees will do for you - you can't fight a lick and that was it for him.. Look at the way Michael Spinks had both knees sheathed up tight for his Mike Tyson fight.. MS's knees were starting to go and that's a major reason he quit at 31.
